Chapter 9

*Kamal Pov*

"This week was so hectic guys." I said, taking my place at our regular table in our favorite restaurant.

"Well, that's why my Dad doesn't stop praising you at all." Pallavi said smiling at me.

"I hope so! I don't want to lose this job when I am planning to bring Mom here. I even selected a flat." I said, thinking about the perfect flat.

"She will not come here until your marriage is over. Speaking of marriage, did you get a chance to have a word with your fiancé? Or is she still at her friend's house?" Rakesh asked sipping his coffee.

"No! And Mom seems to be worried as this is the first time Vani stayed away from the house." I replied leaning back.

"Why are we talking about her? Let's talk about something else important." Pallavi said, shaking her head.

"She is his fiancé and is going to be his wife. What else is more important than that?" Girish asked glaring at her.

"Guys!" I said, frowning at both of them.

"Because she is not his fiancé." Pallavi retorted without giving any heed to my words.

"Why?" Girish asked and I stared at them in shock along with Rakesh and David.

"Because I love him and I will be his real fiancé and wife, but not her." She replied and immediately glanced at all of us before covering her face.

"I didn't want to say that like this at all." She slowly mumbled before staring at me.

"I so knew it." Girish said, grinning at her.

"You love him?" David asked, frowning at her.

"Yes! I don't care about anything else, Kamal. I want to marry you and will you?" she asked, not looking at anyone.

"I am sorry! I never thought you like that and never will." I replied calmly not wanting to hurt her.

"But you never thought about that girl like that too. You don't even know her, but you know me." She said with complete confusion covering her face.

"It is true that I don't know her, but it is also true that I am actually engaged and will never do something which will hurt mom. If she thinks that Vani was best for me, then so be it." I said shrugging.

"You are not saying the same thing before this so-called engagement." She said fuming at me.

"Yes! It was my mistake to not stop it, but you don't know how it will be for my Mom and her parents to get the engagement cancelled and I got used to the idea of her knowing well I don't have a specific reason to cancel it. If I loved someone, then I would have done everything to cancel it, but I don't." I explained.

"You could love me. We are compatible and you wanted your wife to be compatible." She said shaking her head.

"Yes! If you had said before the engagement, then I would have thought about it. Now, it is not possible as I heard Mom thinking about the wedding to be next month." I said sighing.

"I will leave." She abruptly said, standing up and walked away.

"I never expected this." I mumbled, shaking my head.

"Now, how will I face her at the hospital?" I asked them and they all sighed.

"I told you to stay away and you didn't listen." Girish said shrugging.

"Are you sure you don't want to cancel anything with Vani just because of the reason's you told Pallavi?" Rakesh suddenly asked after a few minutes of silence.

"Of course!" I replied and leaned back, rubbing the place where the engagement ring should be.

It's been a few months since the engagement and got to know that Satvi woke up after a month, but is going under some life circumstances as for Mom.

However, Vani took off by them from home and didn't return back. She is in connection with her parents and Mom through phone though.

"Hello?" I said lifting the call without looking at the ID.

"Kamal! Your... your Mom..." that's all Aunty said before she broke out into sobs.

"What happened to my, Mom?" I asked her sitting straight.

"We don't know! We just brought her to the hospital in the city near to the village." Uncle replied instead of her.

"Which hospital?" I asked before noting it down and stood up.

"What happened, Kamal?" David asked.

"Something happened! I need to go." I replied and they nodded before following me.

"We will go in my car and will need not wait for any bus." Girish offered and within the next minutes we are sitting in his car and he started driving to the outskirts of the city.

After a few hours we finally reached the city where she is taken and started looking for the hospital.

"What actually happened?" I asked Uncle who is standing near the ICU while Aunty is weeping.

"She fainted and we immediately brought her to the hospital. I brought as many reports as I could find." He replied and looked down.

"And?" I asked not being about to think of anything feeling something stuck inside the throat.

"She is dying! She new is for the past ten years but there seemed to be no means to cure her disease." He replied and fell on the chair not able to hear anything else.

My friends started asking every type of question to the doctor who came out of ICU while I sat there in silence.

Then I started remembering how weak she was every time I went to visit her. I should have known and why didn't she tell me.

"How much time?" I slowly asked the doctor.

"There was not much from the beginning but she fought until now. However, she seems to have given up. You can meet her." He slowly replied and walked away.

I took a deep breath and walked inside the room. When I reached near her, I slowly sat on the stool before holding her hand.

"You must be angry that I didn't tell you." She whispered or that's all she can say with everything attached to her.

"Why didn't you?" I asked trying to control the tears.

"It is not that I didn't want to live. I went to many doctors a few years back when your Dad was there and found out there is no solution. Maybe he had given up so soon because of which that accident happened. I didn't want to give up though. I wanted to be sure you will be fine before that." She replied, smiling at me which is a weak one.

"Then don't give up now. I will never be fine." I said, shaking my head.

"You will be. You have someone with you now, but I wish I could stay a little longer to be sure that it happened." She mumbled and closed her eyes before drifting off into sleep.

No, Mom! You can't give up like that and I will not let you. I thought, before leaving the room and started pestering the doctor everything to get a hope that she will be fine.

*Vani Pov*

"I just hope I will get a better job next month for all this hard work." Rupa said leaning back from the books.

"You will definitely, Rupa. You were good at studies from the beginning and I hope I get at least a small job after this course." I said smiling at her.

"You will get one." She assured me and I nodded before finishing the work.

I leaned back and started rubbing the engagement ring he put on my finger. When will he tell everyone the truth? Until now it didn't seem like he did from the conversation with Aunty.

"Thinking about him?" Rupa asked, staring at me.

"Kind of!" I whispered and shook my head.

"It is not a wrong to do that. You love him and so you have a right to think about him." She said shrugging and I smiled.

"Yes! But it would be wrong to do that after he got married to someone else." I mumbled and she frowned.

"I don't think you will ever bear that." She stated.

"Wow! Really? I didn't know." I said, faking shock and she laughed at me shaking her head.

"Hello?" I lifted the call yawning and immediately halted that hearing the sobbing from the other side.

"What... what happened?" I asked mom and Dad explained what happened slowly.

"I will be there!" I replied, hanging up and started running around the room until Rupa stopped me.

"What happened?" she asked frowning.

"Aunty... she... is... dying." I replied before breaking down into sobs.

"Why don't we go there?" she asked and I nodded before walking outside the house to search for a transport while she is explaining everything to her parents.

"Mom! Dad!" I said the moment, reaching near them after reaching the hospital as fast as we can.

"Oh Vani!" Mom said, hugging me and I hugged her back before walking near to Dad to know everything.

"She can't hide that from me." I said shaking my head.

"But she did." Dad said calmly.

"No! I will not allow her to leave." I said and started marching towards the ICU but someone stopped holding my hand.

I turned to see Girish shaking his head at me and calmly whispered "She is taking a rest."

"Where is he?" I asked, feeling pain for him to be in this situation to lose another person.

"With doctor! He doesn't want her to leave too." He replied and I nodded before leaning on the wall.

"Can I at least see her?" I asked him and he nodded before I rushed inside the room and started searching for her bed.

"Why did you hide it?" I asked her in a whisper before sitting on the stool.

"So, you are not angry at me anymore?" her question and voice startled me.

"I was never angry at you." I replied and she sighed.

"You will be when I ask you something right now along with Kamal." She stated and I frowned but kept quiet holding her hand.

"Mom!" I heard Kamal's voice and turned to see him reaching the bed.

"Now, did you get your answer that there is not much to do?" she asked shaking her head slightly.

"What do you want me to do, Mom?" he asked holding her other hand.

"Get married! So that I can rest peacefully without worrying about my two children." She calmly asked and my hand stilled along with his.

"Now?" he asked and she slowly nodded.

"You can get a proper wedding later, but have a small one now for my sake." She whispered.

"That's all you want?" he asked and she slowly nodded.

"I will see to the arrangements." He said leaving the room and I shook my head at Aunty.

"What if he is in love with someone else? You can't do this." I mumbled pleading her.

"Do you really think I will allow this if he loves someone else or even like someone? I would have cancelled this relation at that point itself." She mumbled.

"If you don't want this, then all you have to say is no to him." She added before closing her eyes.

How can I say anything now? I should have never ran away and stayed with you. Then you would have been fine. I should have never run away. If that is what you want, then that's what will happen.

And that's how within a blink I am standing beside my husband before Aunty's as we got married by a registered office official who came here understanding the need.
