Y/n POV

"Good morning." A voice husked near my ear, making me jump. My head whipped around to see who it was, and a strange sense of calm washed over me when I saw her.

"Oh, hi. Yeah, 'morning." I stuttered, internally face-palming.

"How are you, Y/n?" Lauren asked as she gracefully slid down the wall to sit beside me, spreading her legs out in front of her and resting her hands idly on her knees. At no point did she let up on that eye contact I had come to learn was almost hypnotic.

"I- I'm good, yeah. Tired, but good. What about you?"

She chuckled softly, which only made the small blush I was sporting turn from one of embarrassment to another kind.

"I'm good. Not tired, and good." She replied, looking away from me for a moment to watch a group of girls walk past, laughing loudly at one another.

"How are you not tired? It's like half past six in the morning and we're at school." I questioned, semi-jokingly. The only response was her eyes back on mine and a flick of her brows paired with a playful smirk.

"Have you started working on the history project yet?" She changed the subject, and my eyes widened in the realisation of my answer.

"Crap! No, I'm sorry." I rambled on about why I hadn't, but she stopped me with a gentle hand on my knee.

It was strange, as soon as her cold skin hit my jeans, goosebumps spread through m whole body but not at her temperature, at a strange uncomfort in my veins. My mind seemed to draw a blank for a moment before my vision blurred, someone's breath loud in my ears but whether it was mine or hers was difficult to tell, and then she leaned over, keeping her eyes locked on mine as she slowly inches towards me. The world started swaying and warping around me, the breathing sound quickened and was joined by a heartbeat pounding in my ears. By the way it sped up the more I panicked at what was happening and the way the hallway appeared to be melting, I figured it was mine. The heat of her breath hit my neck as I felt like I was paralysed. The sounds died down to give way to a singular breath, a long inhale that definitely wasn't mine, the previous heat of my neck cooled, and then she was gently calling my name as the world returned to normal and I looked over to see that she was sitting as though nothing had happened at all.

"Y/n? I think I lost you there." She pointed out as I shook my head and squeezed my eyes a few times, confused as to what just happened.

"Sorry," I mumbled and felt a headache coming on, so I pressed the heel of my hand against my forehead in hopes it'd help somehow. She suddenly removed her hand from my knee, and coincidentally the rapidly growing headache ebbed.

"I have to go." She announced out of nowhere, eyes darting past me for a moment before landing back on mine with that same permission-seeking look as the one she'd worn that day in the cafeteria.

"I'll see you in history." I nodded and sent her a smile as my mind still swam with bewilderment.

She quickly stood and was slinking around the corner at the other end of the hall before I had the chance to blink. Then I remembered how she had looked over my shoulder briefly and turned my head to see, sure enough, who I believed to be Dinah and Normani quickly following after her, watching me as they strode past.

Whatever the hell just happened, I didn't get chance to question because the bell rang and my chemistry teacher opened her door for me to go inside. I frowned as I swung my backpack onto my shoulder and made my way to my seat.

The rest of the class had me feeling uneasy and I was sure Camila could see it because she kept turning in my seat to look at me with concern written all over her face. She waited until she had hurried through the assignment when she sent me a text.

Camila: what's wrong?

I didn't know what to tell her; that I'd just hallucinated in the hallway? Was that even what happened? Did that creepy barista at Starbucks drug the coffee he served me this morning when I'd gone there before school?

Me: nothing, why would u say that?

Camila: you seem uncomfortable

Me: I'm fine dw about it

Camila: 🤔 you sure??

I hesitated, thumbs hovering over the keyboard, before starting to type again. She'd probably take it as a joke anyway.

Me: I'm pretty sure the Starbucks guy drugged me this morning

There was a pause and I looked up to see her furiously typing before turning around with wide eyes.

The text came through shortly after she turned back around.

Camila: WTF ARE YOU OKAY Y/N!? WHY DO YOU THINK HE DID? WHAT HAPPENED?

I chuckled nervously before typing back.

Me: I was talking to Lauren this morning and started hallucinating in the hallway...

I typed, and then deleted, replacing it with,

Me: I'm kidding don't worry

...

"Why would you joke about something like that?" Camila asked, concern evident in her voice, as soon as I left the classroom, having waited for me outside the door.

My mouth opened to respond before I caught sight of dark hair and a blue satchel whipping around the corner up ahead and then frowned as I forgot what she'd asked.

"What?" I questioned as we made our way around the corner.

"Why would you joke about being drugged? I was really worried and I-" she began but was interrupted by walking into someone. Actually, we both did. The boys now in front of us seemed to appear out of nowhere.

"Camila Cabello?" One of them asked as I tried to walk past, but the one in front of me put his hand out and held my shoulder, keeping me in place.

"Hey! Get of-" This time I was interrupted, but by Camila practically growling the same thing I was going to say, with a few more words.

"Get your filthy hands off of her." She snarled, wearing a close to wild look as she glared at the boy's hand on my shoulder.

He hastily let go and put his hands up in front of him, almost in a surrender position, but now I was too confused (which appeared to be the primary emotion of today) to leave.

"What do you want?" Camila questioned. She returned to her usual self in a heartbeat but her voice was still laced with a threat.

"You're needed, urgently." The boy in front of me with the short brown hair announced, neither of them looking at me as they regarded only the girl at my side. She seemed to have forgotten the I existed too as her eyes darted between the boys. Mine did too, and I realised how similar they looked. They must've been twins.

"Me?" Camila's eyes were wide now, but when she received a curt nod in response, they narrowed.

"I'll see you later, Camila," I said quickly after I checked the time. We were definitely going to be late if we stayed here talking any longer but I'd rather be on time if I had a choice. She glanced at me briefly before looking back at them. I left anyway.
