Chapter 27
Drew tapped his finger on the marble countertop as he watched Sybil pack a lunch for her twin daughters. Gemma and Katelyn were upstairs and scrambling to get ready before the bus came to pick them up for school. Richard had already left for work. Drew's eyes had been locked on Sybil ever since he left. She would look over her shoulder at him every once in a while and smirk.
The stairs creaked under the twin's footsteps as they came down to the kitchen. Gemma was texting on her phone and Katelyn was finishing putting her hair up in a ponytail. To Drew, they looked like the twelve-year-old versions of Sybil. They had the same long dark hair, high cheekbones, and sharp wit.
It was Sybil's dream to settle down and have a family. He could have never given her that, so he was happy she found her hopes in Richard. A pang of jealousy still sat in his chest. He would love to be Richard and have a beautiful wife, a family, and an office job. He had let himself be vulnerable around Sybil, and it got both of their hearts broken. He wanted to be open to Anna, but he knew that Rhys feeding her his blood would prevent her from ever choosing him over Rhys.
Sybil passed her daughters their lunch and then kissed their cheeks. They said their goodbyes before the girls hurried over to the door. Sybil let out a deep breath and leaned against the counter when the front door shut. She smiled at Drew and set her eyeglasses on top of her head.
"You have a cute family," Drew said.
"I have to enjoy it while I can," Sybil said.
"What do you mean?"
"The girls are turning thirteen in a few weeks. They're going to start struggling as they develop their abilities. I am going to have to tell them the truth and they may hate me."
"You think they'll hate you?"
"I hated my mother when I discovered I was a witch. Do you know how much of an outcast that makes you feel like?"
Drew chuckled and shrugged.
"Can't be worse than living your life as a member of the undead," he said.
"You're right," she said.
Sybil walked over to the sink and turned on the water. She collected the dishes from breakfast and placed them in soapy water. She rolled up the sleeves of her robe as she dunked her hands into the water.
"Anna seems nice," Sybil said. "How long has she been with you guys? I never thought you'd let a girl into your circle."
"Only for a couple of weeks," Drew said. "Rhys turned her."
Sybil froze and looked over at Drew. He shifted his weight on the stool he was sitting on.
"You brought a new vampire into this house?" she asked. "Are you crazy?"
"She's very controlled for a new vampire," Drew said. "Don't worry, Rhys will not let her out of his sight either."
"Why did Rhys even turn her?"
Drew shrugged. He ran his hand along the top of his head. Sybil continued to wash the dishes.
"He won't tell us why," Drew said. "He's probably in love with her."
"Which bothers you because you also love her?" Sybil asked.
Drew bit down on his lip to stop his jaw from hanging open. Sybil glanced at him before giggling.
"I do not love her," he said.
"Come on, Drew," she said. "This is me you are talking to. I know you, and you used to look at me the same way back in the day."
"Fine." Drew crossed his arms over his chest. "I think she is pretty."
"It's more than that," she said. "You have feelings for this girl. Have you told Rhys? You two going after the same girl will probably not end well."
Drew clenched his teeth. He hated thinking about Rhys and Anna together. It was brutal for him to watch her fall asleep in the backseat and rest her head against his shoulder. He was disgusted with himself for even suggesting that they sit together in the first place. He knew that Anna was smart, but because of Rhys's blood, she was going to lose her free will.
"Rhys will murder me if he knew," Drew said. "She's never going to pick me anyway."
"You are too hard on yourself," Sybil said. "I had more fun with you than I ever have had with Richard."
The tension eased from Drew's muscles. He smirked as he uncrossed his arms. He leaned against the counter and could see the heat rushing up to Sybil's cheeks. Her eyes darted over to him before looking back at the dishwater.
"Oh really?" Drew asked.
"Remember that one time when you picked me up from my morning lecture and we went to the lake..." Sybil trailed off as she giggled.
That day was twenty years ago, but Drew remembered it perfectly. It was early in the morning and they were the only ones at the small secluded lake. He laid out a blanket before they tore each other's clothes off. The memory made Drew smile.
He imagined doing something like that with Anna. She seemed so quiet when he first met her at the club. She had been becoming more vocal and sarcastic since she had become a vampire. He wondered if she would ever be that adventurous. Alice forcing her into that skin-tight dress one night seemed to make her uncomfortable, but she soon adapted. Drew remembered being stunned when he saw her standing in front of the mirror.
He shook his head to try and get the image of Anna in that dress underneath him at the lake out of his mind. It was sticking and making his chest tighten.
"Or do you remember that time after my graduation?" Sybil asked. "I didn't think I was going to be able to walk again after that night."
The tension was returning to Drew's muscles as he recalled that night. It happened only a day before he got the news that they had to move. It was their last night together.
The stool screeched across the floor as Drew stood up. Sybil looked at him for a moment before he walked over to her. He placed his hands on her hips and she tensed under his touch. She gasped and dropped the plate that was in her hands back into the water.
Drew chuckled as he brought his lips down on her neck. She leaned back into him as he tightened his arms around her waist. She closed her eyes and sighed. She ran her wet hand along the counter until she could feel the dish towel. She dried her hands fast before spinning around in his hold.
She threw the towel to the side and wrapped her arms around Drew's neck. She looked up at him. His appearance was unchanged in twenty years. She forgot about how she had streaks of grey in her dark hair and how she was forming lines around her eyes and mouth. She felt like she was in her twenties again. She leaned in and kissed Drew.
It was only an hour ago that they were making out on top of the counter. Drew only pulled away from her because he could hear Huxley and Anna coming up the stairs. He was thankful that Huxley was so loud when he spoke. He would be horrified if Anna saw him kissing Sybil.
Drew broke the kiss. Sybil leaned in again but Drew turned his head so that her lips landed on his cheek.
"We should not be doing this," he said. He felt like he was betraying Anna, but he did not want to mention her name. "You're married."
Sybil rolled her eyes. She cupped Drew's face in her hands and turned his head so that he was facing her. She lightly pressed her lips against his before pulling away.
"You know how naive Richard is," she said. "He will never know."
Sybil trailed her fingers on one hand along Drew's cheek and down to his hard chest. She slipped her robe off of her shoulders and let it fall to the floor. She was wearing a tight tank top that accentuated her breasts and he could see her nipples pushing against the fabric. She smirked as she pressed her body against his.
"You miss me?" she purred.
Drew swallowed past the lump that was forming in his throat and nodded. Sybil giggled before getting up on her toes and kissing Drew. His hands ran down to her ass. He squeezed her as he pulled her closer to him.
He was suffocating her with kisses as he did not need to break to take a breath. Sybil would pull away to suck in a deep breath. When his lips were not on hers, he was trailing them along her neck and chest.
Sybil took his hand off of her ass and laced their fingers together. She pulled him out of the kitchen and left her robe crumpled on the floor next to the sink.
They were kissing, giggling, and stumbling as they went up the stairs. Sybil pulled him down to the room at the end of the hall. There was a large bed where the sheets were still in a tangled mess. Drew froze and raised an eyebrow.
"You want to have sex in the bed that you sleep in with your husband?" he asked.
"What?" she asked. "Would you prefer one of my daughters' beds?"
Drew was going to put an end to this, but Sybil reached out and rubbed her hand along the bulge in his jeans. His eyes fluttered as he melted into her touch. It had been a long time since he had been with a woman, and he knew that he always had fun with Sybil.
He grabbed her waist and threw her down onto the bed. She kicked the sheets to the side. Drew grabbed her breasts with his hands and he started kissing her neck. Sybil rolled her head back as she moaned. She grabbed a fistful of Drew's shirt and pulled it up over his head. She ran her fingers along Drew's hard and defined chest. He grabbed her wrist and pushed her hand against his bulge.
Sybil fumbled with his belt and the button on his jeans. Drew pulled off her tank top as she tried to undress him. Drew pushed Sybil back onto the bed. He kissed her chest and closed his eyes as he took her nipple in his mouth. Sybil moaned. She arched her back, which pressed her body up against his.
With his eyes closed, he was transported to another world. He was in a place where this was Anna on the bed and writhing in passion underneath his body. He pictured that it was Anna's long legs that were wrapped around his waist and her hands grabbing fistfuls of his hair.
He kept his mouth busy. He did not want to moan Anna's name out by accident. Sybil continued to moan and arch her back as Drew dragged his lips along her stomach and stopped when he reached the waistband on her pajamas.
"Please, Drew," Sybil moaned.
Her voice brought Drew back to reality. He shook his head as he leaned back and away from Sybil's body. Her eyes fluttered open and she pouted.
"I've wanted this for so long," she said. "No teasing. I can't handle it."
Drew smirked. "What do you want me to do then?"
"I want you to fuck me."
Drew hooked his fingers into Sybil's waistband and pulled her pajamas and underwear down. Sybil grabbed Drew's open jeans and pulled them off of him.
Drew and Sybil were too focused on each other to notice the front door opening and closing.
–
Richard had forgotten his phone at home, so he had to turn around. He grabbed his phone from the kitchen counter. When he did not see Sybil, he assumed she went out with Drew and his friends.
Richard was going to turn around and go back to his car, but there was the sound of a moan. He stopped and listened for a second until there was another moan coming from upstairs. He arched an eyebrow as he looked around the kitchen. He saw Sybil's robe lying on the floor. He picked it up before heading up the stairs.
There was a mixture of moans and the bed squeaking as he walked down the hall. The bedroom door was open a crack. He pushed it open and Drew and Sybil were in bed naked together. Drew was on top of Sybil and thrusting into her.
He stood there in horror for a second before clearing his throat. Drew rolled off of Sybil. She frantically grabbed one of the sheets and clutched it to her chest.
–
"Why are you home?" Sybil asked.
"What is going on?" Richard asked.
Sybil rolled her eyes. Drew silently cursed himself out when he saw that his clothes were on the other side of the bed.
"It's been so long between us that you don't remember what sex looks like?" Sybil asked. "Seriously, Rich?"
"I should be going," Drew said.
"Yes," Richard said. "You really should."
Drew grabbed one of the blankets and wrapped it around his waist. He went around the bed, picked his clothes up off the floor, and headed to the door. Richard did not move from the doorway, so Drew had to slip by Richard as he glared at him. Drew kept a tight grip on the blanket as he hurried down the hall.
"You and your friends better be out of here in ten minutes," Richard said. "Or I'll tell everyone you are vampires."
"Rich, who would believe you?" Sybil asked.
Drew rushed down to the basement and changed into his clothes. Sybil and Richard scream at each other as he gathered everyone's bags. He was relieved that Rhys left the car keys in his bag.
Sybil and Richard were continuing to argue as Drew slipped out of the house.
