Chapter 9 Kiana

I pace the outside area of the school waiting for Damien to show up. Very few people actualy spend their lunch period outside so the area is pretty empty except for a few passers-by. I sigh taking a seat up against the building holding my head in my hands, foot steps alert me and I pop my head back up coming eye to eye with Damien.
"Took you long enough." I mutter mostly to myself but he chuckles and sits next to me.
"A teacher wanted to speak with me." He offers as an explanation.
"So why am I out here?" I ask curiously watching him out of the corner of my eye.
"You wanted me to explain why I didn't sit next to you in class this morning and I wanted to explain a few other things as well." I nod waiting for him to continue, when he doesn't I speak up.
"Why didn't you sit by me?" I ask looking at my boots.
"I like you... a lot. I'm not supposed to feel like this for anyone and when your friend asked about it I felt uneasy so I decided to distance myself but er both know how that went." He sighs and I look up at him with a shocked expression.
"R-really?" My hands started shaking as I looked at the most perfect man alive. He chuckles lightly and meets my eyes.
"Really." He whispers.
"Um what else did you want to talk to me about?" My voice comes out nervous and uneasy.
"I really like you, I do but I can't be anything more than your friend. I don't want you to get hurt." He stands up and brushes his jeans off before offering me his hand. I take it and turn to him.
"I dint think I can be your friend." Tears spring to my eyes from the rejection and I run away before they can fall. I run into the girls bathroom and into a stall finaly letting the tears go. Someone pushes open the bathroom door and I hear a few pairs of heels click on the tile flooring.
"What does Damien see in that 'thing' that he doesn't see in me?" Amber voice cuts through the bathroom in a high pitched squeak.
"Maybe she puts out. That's what I heard Matt say yesterday." Olivia giggles and I can hear Hanna follow.
"Kiana the good girl put out? I doubt it." I can almost feel Amber glaring at them.
"She's nothing more than a charity case he will get bored." Hanna added.
"I hope so." I listened to the sound of their heels as they left. I waited until the bathroom door swung closed before opening the stall and leaving. I practically ran to my truck avoiding the eyes of curious students.
