We swapped cars when we found the next, a red land rover, still with the keys in the ignition. It would do.

I didn't talk to Gavriel the whole time, instead I carried the vial of glass and focused on not losing it.

Night fell, and if I had been a human, I would have been hungry, but being a vampire I wasn't, as I had fed on blood recently. I would probably need to drink more of the blood tomorrow, but that was tomorrow, so why live in the future?

I fell asleep looking out the window again. Darkness had descended on my surroundings, making the world a hazy oblivion, similar to the one sleep now was.

I heard a squeal of breaks and I woke up immediately. It looked dip to be about midnight, and I was going to ask Gavriel what the matter was when I realised there was a vampire standing in the middle of the road, his outline picked up by the headlights that illuminated only a section of the forest.

The hairs on the back of my neck stood up as I realised who he was... Thorn. I was surprised it had taken him this long to catch up with us.

The car was still running as Gavriel stared at Thorn, hatred written all over his body and stance. Thorn stared back and the two had a silent staring contest. It became so intense I felt I was intruding.

Eventually Thorn broke off.

"Perfect. I can kill you both now, and easily. Then I can dump the bodies and no one will be any wiser." He said, a permanent smirk on his face.

"Not in a million years." Growled Gavriel. I heard a stone crash through the back of the car and I dodged out of the way of the shards that flew towards us.

"I think you'll find... Yes, in a million years."

My blood ran cold as I felt more vampire presence. We were surrounded. It was hard to guage, but I'd say, 20 to 30 vampires. All probably rogues.

"See. This is why you should never ally with humans. If you'd been a rogue then you wouldn't have to be killed. But you allied with a human, one who trapped you. Pathetic, that's what vampire kind has become."

"I would have been scuttling in the shadows, that's what I would have been. An eternity alone is much more preferable to an eternity in a rogue vampire pack." Gavriel said. Rogue vampires... Vampire packs... What did he mean? Vampires were solitary creatures. Always had been always will be.

"Spoken like those who have been bred to think rogues are dangerous and untrustworthy." Thorn said smirking. What were rogue vampires? I had heard of them, everyone had, but what was the definition?

"Rogues ARE dangerous and untrustworthy." Gavriel said, interrupting Thorn. Thorn just looked disinterested an continued like Gavriel hadn't even interrupted.

"Your friend is a rogue." Wait. I'm a rogue? "She killed a vampire just after she was turned, remember?" So a rogue vampire is a vampire whose killed another vampire while being a vampire.

Gavriel growled.

"You can't even argue with that, can you?" Smirked Thorn.

Gavriel growled louder, like he was oblivious to the surrounding vampires.

"Hypocrite. You go against your code. And why? What can that rogue offer you that we can't?" Thorn said, drawling in a tone of voice that suggested there was only one way out of this conversation.

"It's more like what she doesn't offer, than what you offer." Gavriel said. His back was turned to me, so I couldn't read his expression. But from his voice he was probably smirking. It was what everyone round here seemed to be doing anyway. Well, everyone but me.

"And what doesn't she offer?" Thorn asked, a tone of annoyance arising in his smooth, velvet voice.

"A place in a pack full of untrustworthy vampires." Gavriel said, and Thorn looked as though he had been betrayed.

"Its in a vampires nature to be untrustworthy, even you aren't trustworthy. Your more likely to stab us all in the back than we are together."

"But not you?" Gavriel asked. Baiting a vampire, which was what he was doing, was generally not a good idea, unless you wanted the vampire to be annoyed and probably not think clearly.

"I never claimed to be trustworthy. And nor can anyway words I've said be twisted so I've claimed I'm trustworthy."

"So you are better than other vampires then, as you don't have any of the unsavoury aspects of our kind?" Gavriel asked. I waited to hear murmurings of dissent, but none came. And if they did, they were too quiet for my vampire ears to pick up. Gavriel's demeanor never changed throughout the conversation, and he wasn't changing it now.

Thorn chuckled, a smirk appearing on his mouth. "I never claim to be better than anyone else."

"Ah, but you never deny the fact that you are better than other vampires." Gavriel said, trying to catch Thorn out, making him make a mistake that would have other vampires turn on him.

Needless to say, it didn't work.

"Nor have I denied if i was worse than other vampires." I hear the truth in his voice, and the faint murmurings of gradual dissent I was beginning to hear were shushed.

Gabriel stared at Thorn, and Thorn stared back. Thorn broke off and was about to speak, when Gavriel put his foot down on the accelerator and the car sped off, away leaving the vampires to eat dust. We would have plowed through Thorn like he wasn't there, had he not shifted into a large black bat at the last minute.

I looked at the speedometer and we were gaining speed, reaching 100, 110, 120 miles an hour. The road was straight (Thankfully), and the forest was either side. There was nothing in the road, and there were no other cars for the space we could see.

Gavriel's stance was one of sheer determination, his pale hands gripping the wheel and making the veins show. I bit my lip. I needed something to do, other than watch the speedometer and feel fear and adrenaline run through me. Blood hit my mouth, and I immediately swallowed, needing a pick me up. I briefly wondered where it came from, but then stopped biting my lip when I realised the blood was me, from my lip.

I needed the cut to heal, but I didn't know how to heal, and I was afraid to ask Gavriel, when he was in a mood like this, so I tried to deduce a way in which I could heal myself.

I couldn't ask Gavriel, or any other vampire for that matter, so that meant it would be down to me. Vampires supposedly had accelerated healing, but I'd never seem it, and if I had, I still probably wouldn't know what to do.

I realised I was sucking on the blood from my still bleeding lip, and I immediately stopped. I couldn't drink blood now, no matter how much I wanted to descend into that drunken fervour, this was too important.

Suddenly I had an idea. What if i willed my lip to heal. Would that work?

I focused all my attention on my lip, and I willed it to heal, for the broken tissue to mend back together, and become whole once again.

To my utmost surprise, it worked, and I felt a burst of energy, not just the excitement of heaving healing something, but a burst of energy that must have come from the lip itself.

Yes! Was the first thought that ran through my head, and I almost jumped in joy. Almost. I still hadn't forgotten I was in a car going 150mph by now with a vampire. I could end up in a ditch in the middle of nowhere.

I kept on staring at the Speedo, and I saw the miles per hour we were doing dip gradually, the car slowing to about 90mph. It was slower than previously, but it was still breathtakingly fast, making everything blur past in a flash of brown and green forest, darkened by the dusk turning nighttime light.

Having been travelling at 150mph, 90mph seemed slow, far too slow. But I kept on reminding myself we were breaking all speed limit laws, at least in Britain. You could go faster in Germany, Denmark (probably), or even France (again, probably) with their moterways with no speed limits on at night.

I heard Gavriel take a deep breath, and saw his whole frame shudder. It brought me back to reality, not the dream world I was in were all that mattered was Speedos, speed limits and speed. I didn't know which world I preferred, the latter being the calm world I need in a hectic reality, while the former being the world of surprises.

"I'm sorry." Gavriel said, his whole frame shuddering again. His hands still gripped the wheel so tight they were outlining the red veins, contrasting even more to his deathly pale skin. I could sense he didn't want me to talk, so I decided to let him continue before speaking. "If you hadn't found me-if I hadn't been so stupid, you wouldn't be fleeing from Thorn."

"I would be. I trapped him remember?" I said. I didn't know where this conversation was heading, just i didn't want this vampire to kill himself over me. A few weeks ago, I would have taken it; sure, with both hands even, he's another death after all, but now? I don't know why, but I don't want him to kill himself over me.

"No-he would have killed you there and then. Now you are a vampire-probably considered to be a rogue, and therefore he will hunt you."

"What is a rogue?" I asked. I already had my suspicions confirmed.

"A rogue, is the worst of out kind, the most despicable of vampires. A rogue is a vampire who has drunken the blood from another vampire. It doesn't matter if the vampire kills or not, just drinking the blood is enough to be a rogue. A few centuries ago, vampires were killing other vampires, to gain more power than vampires could be bitten. So the then vampire leaders created a pact-the vampire pack decree of 1789-that any vampire who drinks the blood of another vampire has to be taken to the court, and will later be killed. This was seen to be a problem, but as there were so many non-rogue vampires compared to the rogue vampires, the rogue vampires sheer strength didn't help, and most were forced into submission and killed, because they were so dangerous. A few fled into hiding." He said, confirming my suspicions correctly and also giving me a history lecture.

"What's a rogue vampire pack?" I asked, curiously. I also knew this may be my only chance to get information, and I needed information to survive as a vampire.

"A rogue vampire pack is a pack formed out of rogue vampires." He said, explaining easily. I was about to question further when sleep came for me, suddenly and sharply.

Sorry I haven't updated in a long time. Life and homework and everything.
