Matt came early in the morning to the Grill to clean up after the party. 

"Looks like it was a great party"-a familiar voice made Matt jump up a bit.

"Tyler! What are you doing here-last I checked you were in Ontario."-

"You had some party here!"-Tyler said looking at the mess that was left.

"Don't you remember anymore -it was Caroline's 25th!"- Matt reminded him.

"Remember!? Like it was yesterday. So-she is back? I thought she'd be in L.A. or at least New York?!"

"Everyone's here"-Matt said-" anyway, want something to eat? Guess you haven't been to the house yet?"

"Can't face them yet."-Tyler replied.

"Why are you back?"- Matt inquired.

"Breakfast first!"- the werewolf said.

Matt put the mop down and they both now went into the Grill's kitchen.

Bennett house

Damon did as he intended. He could not enter the house itself, but he could get into the garden shed. He left it among different boxes there.

"That's good for now."-he thought to himself. As he was done, he lingered around the area for a little while. He saw Bonnie arrive after a while and when she got out of the car he went up to her.

"What are you doing here? Lurking?"- she said annoyed.

"I was bored-the party wasn't much?! Have they found your friend?"-Damon asked.

"What is it to you? "-she walked by him.

"Well-just curious.'

Bonnie laughed snarkily at him.

"Seriously?!"- Bonnie gave him a mistrusting look and walked into the house slamming the door behind.

"Tough cookie!"-Damon uttered and swooshed away.

 In the Gilbert house, Elena tried to sleep, but her adrenaline levels were still high from everything that had happened the night before. Her emotions were all over the place. Life certainly is not going to be the same anymore.  She then thought of Elijah. He was nothing like the two vampires she knew. Maybe because he was the old one - she thought. So agreeable, sophisticated, mysterious and so very sexy. Elena closed her eyes once again. It was sure that she wanted to know all about her role in all of it and all there was to know about the Old ones.

She got dressed and took the key of her SUV.

She found Sophie asleep in the lounge. Jenna had gone out. She thought for a moment what to do. Maybe it wasn't a good idea to leave the house, as it was now spelled to be a safe house. But she wanted answers. And she wanted them directly from the source.

Mikaelson mansion

"Is the box safe?"- Elijah asked Rose, who confirmed it was so.

"Good. That was seven of twelve hearts- but it is not Katerina Petrova's heart!"- he said- " it seems that something is not entirely right"

"Katerina was one sly vampire!"- Rose remarked.

"I know- it could be that they never got to her."- Elijah then said.

"And what with the doppelganger?"- Rose asked.

"The Deveraux witch will protect her-but you will stay to overlook everything! I need to pay a visit to a long lost friend."

And on that note Elijah  left his devoted vampire friend to her  tasks.

Katerina Petrova played with her bracelet as she listened to the vampire reporting on the news about the new doppelganger.

"Great- I can finally transfer the damned curse onto her!"

Elena got to the mansion and as she entered the grounds with her SUV, Rose got out to meet her.

"Hello. How can I help you?'-Rose said politely.

"I want to see- the vampire!"-Elena said.

"I am afraid you have just missed him. You do realize that you are not safe wondering out alone?! Please do come in."-Rose then said.

Elena walked into the mansion with the vampire.

"This is exactly why I am here. I want to know exactly what is going on!"-Elena said in a demanding voice.

"I understand, but I am not at  liberty to share anything."-Rose explained.

"But you can tell me about the Old ones?!"-Elena said convincingly.

"That I can do. A cup of tea?"-Rose offered.

"Coffee!"-Elena said.

"Of course" '-Rose said and showed Elena where to follow her.

Caroline was blissfully unaware of the goings-on.  She reminisced about part of the party she could remember.  She went into the bathroom and went into the shower.

All of a sudden like a blitz in her head she remembered a moment. In horror she got out of the shower wrapping herself up in the towel and now looked at her neck. There were no markings.

Flashback

"Come on...let us have our private little dance here."- Stefan pulled her away from the crowd for a moment.  He kissed her so passionately on the lips and then trailed slowly off with little pecks down her neck. Then she felt a bite, but she couldn't move or say anything. It felt like she was in a trance. And it lasted a second. He looked in her in the eyes and he whispered that she shouldn't remember what had happened.

Then another memory of Damon compelling her came flooding  back as if she was electrocuted.

She then quickly took her phone and called Elena. There was no answer. Then she pressed the speeddial for Bonnie.

As Bonnie answered, Caroline poured out all that she had remembered about what had happened to her in the party.

"Ahm... all right... I will explain"- Bonnie said.

"Good! This is all very weird"- Caroline puffed.

On his way to New York, Elijah received the message that Elena came looking for him. 

"Very inquisitive!"- he muttered to himself. Her whole demeanour surprised him slightly. She was different from the other two doppelgangers he had met in his life. She possessed fierceness and compassion that had impressed him greatly. 

Flashback

"Why is there need to protect her? She has betrayed you!!"- Freya said to his brother.

"I am not protecting her for the reason you think I am doing.  I don't love her. I am making sure the witches don't kill her, as they would use her heart for their dark purposes. Klaus triggering the witch part in himself would mean that dark magic wins?! I can't have that!"- Elijah said.

"You believe in balance?!"- Freya said.

"I do! Don't you?!"- he replied.

"He will never stop. And if it's true what the seer has told us, there will be other doppelgangers!"- Freya reminded him.

Elijah sighed.

He now called Freya.

"Is it time?"- she said as she answered the call.

"Nearly."- Elijah said- " I will ensure you safe passage!"

"See you soon, dear brother!"- Freya said and hung up.

John arrived in Mystic Falls with Marcel. As they parked in front of the house, Sophie met them on the house porch. She didn't waste any time subduing them with her magic. They collapsed on the floor and she dragged them both into the house. She then called Jenna to inform her of the unwanted visitors.

"I will be home in a second!"- Jenna said. She inquired about Elena.

As Sophie looked outside the house, she saw that Elena's SUV was gone.

"She is not here?!"- Sophie said to her friend.

"Damn... Really don't need this right now!"-  she hung up on Sophie and called Elena. She was relieved to hear that she was with Bonnie.

Elena lied.
