"hadn't you guys said it was supposed to be a memorable night?" donghyuck asked his friends that were dragging him to god knows where in the middle of the night. not that he minded actually, he had been a vampire for three years now, so, he was used to being out at night and stuff, but having his five friends pulling him somewhere he didn't know was definitely not his cup of tea.

"it is going to be a memorable night, stop complaining." jaemin rolled his eyes.

"okay, but first, how can it be a memorable night when my boyfriend isn't here?" donghyuck stopped walking, making chenle bump into his back.

"stop being curious and just walk hyuck. it's a surprise." chenle groaned.

"a surprise?"

jisung hit chenle's head. "why did you spill it was a surprise?"

"he would have understood anyway..."

the six boys continued walking inside the familiar forest.

donghyuck had stopped asking questions, making the whole group sigh in relief.

"are we almost there?" donghyuck asked after a good 10 minutes of silence.

"i don't know, jaemin? are we almost there?" jeno wiggled his brows at his boyfriend who was supposed to have a better sense of orientation than anyone else.

"huh..." jaemin looked around. "it should have been here. but i guess i missed a turn or something..."

"well done." jeno clapped.

jaemin growled, showing his fangs to his boyfriend whose eyes turned red.

"okay... tonight is donghyuck and mark's night so, you two are not ruining it, thank you." renjun stood between his two boyfriends, calming them down.

"mark is going to be mad. he told us to be on time." chenle sighed.

"so, mark's the surprise?" donghyuck's face lightened.

chenle earned another light tap on his head. "you really don't know how to keep a secret, don't you?"

eventually, after five minutes of debate, a secret call to mark and a sprint in super speed, the six boys were at the destination with only 10 minutes of delay.

"let's say mark's going to kill us just a tiny bit." renjun said, eying his watch.

"so, all this ruckus was just for us to get to a fucking tree?" donghyuck asked shocking the five boys. "and mark is not even here!"

"since when do you know this word hyuck?"

"mark says it a lot." donghyuck shrugged. "but the forest is full of trees, why this one though?"

"i'm going to kill this vamp for taking the innocence away from my precious baby." jaemin stomped his feet.

"excuse me." a deep voice startled him. "but donghyuck is my baby only."

"my vampire!!" donghyuck exclaimed before jumping in mark's arms and kissing him on the lips fully.

"by the way, you are late." mark whispered to the five boys, while rocking his boyfriend in his arms.

"yeah, you'll have a talk with jaemin." jeno rolled his eyes.

"anyway, go make your stuff, we'll be on that tree." chenle said, pointing at a pine nearby.

mark rolled his eyes before signalling them to leave.

"sunshine?"

donghyuck pulled his head out of mark's neck humming.

"let's go up and admire the landscape, okay?"

donghyuck nodded, holding tightly to mark as the vampire climbed the tree. donghyuck could climb on his own now that he was a vamp as well, but he preferred being on mark's back, it was much more comfortable.

if mark had chosen this one, it's because it was the tallest of the forest, and he knew they could see perfectly the meteor shower that was supposed to happen that night.

"woah! you even put fairy lights here!" donghyuck said, admiring the way mark had decorated the tree. "and there are things to eat!" he added, sitting on the big branch.

"i knew you would be hungry..." mark giggled, sitting next to him and staring lovingly at his boyfriend.

"you're doing all of this for me..." donghyuck looked around. "sometimes, i come to ask myself if i deserve you."

mark furrowed his brows. "what are you saying baby?"

"well... you are always doing huge things for me... you plan huge dates, i don't know... i don't deserve all of this... i'm just... a normal teenager." donghyuck lowered his head.

mark prevented him to do so by gently grabbing his chin. "hey. don't say that. we've been together for three years now. three years. you've been my vampire boyfriend for three long years. do you think that's being just 'normal'? i don't think so... do you think i'd still be here if i didn't want to be with you?"

donghyuck used the back of his hand to wipe a stray tear, slowly shaking his head.

mark rose to his feet, pulling donghyuck up with him to kiss him on the forehead and hug him tight just after.

"i love you donghyuck. from the bottom of my heart. i did even though i knew you hated vampires. and i managed to make you mine." mark let go the hug and backed away a bit, looking at donghyuck's teary eyes. "but you know... being your boyfriend for three long years made me realise something. i will never get enough of you. i need you in my life more than anything else. i can't live without you. and knowing that i will live for an eternity, i want to spend that eternity of time with you..."

donghyuck wiped his tears with the back of his hands, reassured by the tons of sweet words that were coming out of mark's mouth.

"...so, lee donghyuck, will you make me the happiest vampire on this planet and marry me?" mark asked, pulling out a black box of his pocket and kneeling in front of donghyuck who started sobbing right away, but this time of joy.

donghyuck threw himself in mark's arms, nodding while chanting a chorus of 'yes', making mark cry as well. mark then slid the golden ring on donghyuck's thin finger before crashing his lips on donghyuck's.

the meteor shower had started since long, actually, it was almost finished, but the two vampires couldn't care less. they had other things to think about at the moment...

(a bit earlier that day)

the doorbell rang, startling mrs lee who was ironing.

"mark? donghyuck's not here if you're wondering." she raised a brow.

"h-hello... huh... can i have a talk with you and your husband please?"

"oh, yeah. honey! please, come down! mark has something to ask us!"

donghyuck's father soon made its appearance in the living room and sat on the sofa next to his wife after saluting mark.

"so..." mark started, fidgeting with his fingers. "donghyuck and i have been together for three years already..."

"all that!" donghyuck's mother exclaimed. "it seems like it was yesterday!"

mark let out a nervous laugh. "yeah... huh..."

"three years... that's long."

"yeah, that's long... and, i was planning to... hum... to ask his... his hand." mark finished, looking at his feet.

"to ask his hand?!" donghyuck's father raised his voice.

"you want to marry our son?" his mother joined.

mark made eye contact with them and nodded.

the room was silent for an instant.

"i-i really am in love with your son... and i can't imagine my life without him. he was turned into a vampire so... i guess the best partner for life for him is a vampire... he could still transform someone, but since i am his boyfriend of three years... anyway. if i came here today it's because i wanted to ask for your permission to propose to him." mark rambled out loud.

donghyuck's parents stared at mark before exchanging a look.

"we've always trusted you mark. we did since donghyuck brought you home for the first time. so, we're allowing you to propose to him." donghyuck's father said, making mark sigh in relive.

"however." mark tensed again once his mother spoke. "the choice remains donghyuck's. if he says no, then we can't do anything for you." she said.

mark bowed. "i understand, thank you very much."

"one last thing." donghyuck's mother raised a finger before mark could leave.

"yeah?" mark raised a brow.

"if he says yes... don't you dare hurt our little baby. because if he comes home crying because you hurt him one day, i swear i'll kill you by putting a bullet through your skull." she growled.

"huh..." mark looked at her weirdly.

"isn't it how we kill vamps?"

"no."

"then i'll shove garlic through every orifice of your body."

mark gulped. "okay."

"good. you may propose now." she said with a smile.
