Chapter Nineteen
Actually, she was downright happy.
She looked at him and wondered what he was thinking at that moment. She gazed down at his hand and she hesitated for just a bit, but decided to go for it. She got a little closer, slipped her hand inside of his and linked her fingers through his own. Her face became red and she refused to look at him when he looked over from the sudden action.
He tightened his fingers around hers and smiled as he felt her heart rate spike up at that moment. He knew he shouldn't have kissed her back, shouldn't have gave in to his feelings about her. He shouldn't even be holding her hand right now, but what was the point in fighting it?
Maybe they could make this work.
He could try and deal with his problem, learn to control it with Blase's help. He will learn to control it, for Sky's sake. He didn't want another repeat of what had happened in Egypt to ever happen again.
He thought about his father and what he might say if he knew where their relationship was heading. Would he be angry? Apparently, Sky was something special and he didn't even know the real reason why she was even there on the island.
He felt a little uneasy as a thought came to him. What if she was off limits? What if the reason she was here could destroy what they just now started and jeopardize everything? He didn't like the feeling that it possibly could, and he tried to mentally shake it off.
He gazed down at her as she put her other hand on top of their clasped ones and held on to it. She leaned her head down on his shoulder as they continued walking. He would risk anything to be with her, he thought suddenly.
Whatever it was that brought her here, they would figure it out together and deal with it. One way or another, he wasn't letting her go, not now that he knew where they stood with each other.
"Would you like to go somewhere with me?" he asked her suddenly.
She lifted her head up at him and they stopped walking. He gazed down at her, waiting for her reply. "Right now?" she asked him.
"Yeah, unless you don't want to, its ok." he said a bit sheepishly, feeling a bit foolish for even asking.
She pulled him back as he tried to walk away, not moving herself. "I didn't say that, and I was just wondering if you meant at this moment Fulk, of course I'll go with you." she told him.
Then she came up close, looking at his chest and whispered, "I'll go anywhere with you."
He felt his entire body swell with such an emotion at her words and he laughed, making her look up at him. He pulled back a little, but didn't let go of her hand as he did. He became serious then.
"Where I want to go is kind of far and it's not on this Island, so we'll have to go over water for a bit." he told her.
Her eyes widen at that. "Really? How long will it take us to get there?" she asked, thinking about her parents and if they found out she hadn't been home all night.
"Well, if you travel normally, it would take almost a full day to get there, if you travel by my kind's standards it would only take about two hours but..." He hesitated for a moment looking at her and he became uncomfortable.
She tugged on his hand to continue when he just stood there not saying another word. He sighed heavily and said what he never told any other being before, not even Blase, the guy just sort of found out on his own.
"If you travel with me, we could get there in thirty minutes in the air...we could travel with me flying us there." There he had said it and he waited for her reaction.
She thought on that and remembered that back in Cairo Fulk had wings, not just one set but two. She wondered if he was going to transform, but if that was the case, he wouldn't have suggested it at all. Not with the way he felt about that at the moment.
"You have wings, wings you could control." she stated, and he nodded his head at her. "Can I see them?" she asked softly, wanting to see them more than she wanted to admit.
He let go of her hand, stepped back away from her and stood there. She watched as he braced himself. He watched her face as slowly, like a newborn butterfly coming out of its cocoon, his bat like wings unfurled from behind his back. They spread out widely about him reaching out at least eight feet.
They were magnificent, not just in size, but in appearance as well. It made him look so much more intimidating and yet more desirable to her. She wanted to touch them and feel their texture, wondering if they felt like a real bat as well.
"Does it hurt?" she asked softly as she gazed at them.
He had watched her reaction and what he saw there made him want to grab and kiss her for all she was worth. She looked at his wings as if they were the most amazing, most beautiful thing she had ever seen. She was completely awed by them and he was relieved to see that she had accepted them just as she had accepted him for what he was.
"No, it actually tickles a bit." he whispered back to her. "Want to touch them?"
"Really, you don't mind?" She looked at him as she bit her lower lip.
He smiled at her. "With you, definitely not." he told her.
He watched as she slowly walked up to him and reached out a hand to graze the inside of his right wing. He closed his eyes of the pleasure it gave him, and his wing sent off little sensations that went throughout his entire body, giving him shivers.
It almost felt like skin, but softer and more fragile, almost like paper. She was afraid to put too much pressure on it, afraid it might rip and cause him pain. She felt the inner bone like structure, felt the hardness of that part and it was rough.
She walked around to the other side of the outer wing and saw the major difference then the inside held. This side was hard and tougher. It was so different, it was almost as if they were two different wings that she was touching.
She grazed her hand all over until she reached his back where the wing was coming out of. She went right behind him, placed both of her hands in the center of his spine and lightly pressed. She looked at how perfectly the wings came out of his shirt as if they were a part of it.
She peered closely to see the slits causing the wings to come forward. She laid her head where her hands were and listened to his heartbeat that pounded through. She closed her eyes and felt the movement of his breathing. She then splayed her hands down his body until they rested on his rib cage.
"Sky?" he choked out with difficulty.
His breathing came in a little thicker from her touching him so gently and caressing his wings the way she did. She was evoking feelings and yearnings that he had never felt before with another person.
She opened her eyes and didn't want to move. She reached out her left hand and grazed the left wing as far as her arm would go. Then she did the same thing with the right one and looked at how much bigger the wings were from her own arms. She then turned around and leaned her back against his. She imagined what it would be like to have wings like that. She smiled then.
"You're magnificent, you know that?" she softly said to him and he smiled.
"Come on, want to know what it feels like to have wings?" he challenged her, and she came around to face him with excitement.
"Oh yes, please." she whispered eagerly.
He pulled her close to him and wrapped his arm around her waist. "You might want to hang on." he told her, and she wrapped her arms around his neck pulling herself even closer to him.
Their faces were mere inches away from one another and she had the sudden desire to kiss him. He must have been thinking the same thing because he actually did kiss her as he couldn't seem to help himself. She sighed as she closed her eyes and let the feelings roam over her body. His lips were soft and gentle as he moved them over hers and before she knew it, he had risen twenty-five feet in the air.
She had been so lost in that kiss that she didn't even feel the lifting of their bodies or the swooshing sound of his wings. When it did end, she opened her eyes and realized how far up they were, she freaked out. She gasped out in her surprise and held on even tighter, looking down at the ground. Fulk chuckled at her reaction, leaned back and flew forward at a fast speed.
"Fulk!" She yelled out as her stomach did a flip at the sudden action.
He laughed as he hugged her tighter to him and decided to do a twirl with her, making her close her eyes tightly and clutch him in a death grip.
"I think I like this." he mumbled in her ear. "Your body pressed onto mine." he whispered. making her blush prettily. "Don't ever be afraid that I'll drop you Sky, I will never do anything that will endanger your life or self being, I promise."
They soared into the night sky and when she opened her eyes to look at her surroundings, she became entranced. They were above the ocean and in the distance was the outline of the Island. The stars and moon made the water shine like diamonds and the clouds were puffy and spread out like a painting. She looked at Fulk and saw he was watching her, and she couldn't help but smile at him.
"Mind getting wet?" he asked her with a hint of a grin, and she wondered what he was planning in that mind of his.
"Do I want to know?" she asked him, and he shook his head at her.
"Just hang on and find out." he told her. She did just that and was a little anxious about what was going to come next.
He closed his wings around them like a cocoon and shot up into the air, then he tipped over with their heads facing down. He just let them fall straight into the water as he spun them. The water was a lot colder this far out in the ocean then she had thought it would be and it completely through her off guard of the sudden shock of it.
Suddenly, they were floating underneath, and he nudged her to open her eyes to look at him. He smiled at her, spread his wings out and slipped out of her embrace, but didn't let her hand go. She felt weightless and her hair flowed around her. It was both exciting and frightening to be under water, deep in the ocean at night. The moon shone through the depths of the water letting her see his profile and the deep blue around them, as farther away it became darker and more void like.
They weren't that deep, maybe a couple of feet under. She looked above them and saw the water shimmer. He pulled her to him and kissed her softly. He then spun her around with him and swam forward on his back and swirled as he held her to him.
Then before she could run out of air, he wrapped her in his arms, his wings once again went around them and started spinning as if they were dancing. He shot them out of the water and as he did, his wings spread out wide causing the water and droplets to fly everywhere. She gasped for air and laughed out her delight, with her hair plastering to her head. She moved it away from her face and looked back at him. He grinned at her.
"See, it was fun right?" he asked her.
"It was more than fun; it was life experiencing." she told him happily.
"Come on, we're almost there." he said, and he flew them forward.
After long minutes went by, Sky finally saw where Fulk was taking her. It was another Island, only this one was ten times smaller, not even a small town could be built on it. All around it was a sandy beach with thick trees in a circle and she could tell there was a large opening. Some kind of structure was off to the side while the other side held a pool with a little waterfall.
Fulk landed in the center of the glade and gently let her go. She looked around her and saw that the trees completely concealed the inner Island as if it was built that way. The waterfall was a bit small, but it landed perfectly into the pool just below it. She looked at the structure and realized it was a building that wasn't quite finished. It stood two stories tall and reminded her of a Victorian historian home.
"It still has a long way to go, but I plan to have it finished by next summer." he said next to her, looking at the house with a mixture of pride and sadness.
"This is yours?" she asked surprised.
"Yeah, I started building it about eight months ago, but had to stall when my father asked me to keep a close eye on a pretty little brunette, who was surrounded by blood sucking beings and who completely caught my undivided attention." He gave her a lazy smile. "So, it was on hold, but now...I want to get it done as soon as possible."
Sky grew warm with that and smiled in turn. "Does your father know about this place?" she asked him next.
His smile faded, and a hard glint entered his eyes. "No, he doesn't. In fact nobody does, not even Blase."
She felt like there was a reason for that, so didn't pressure it, but she was curious. "You showed me." she whispered to him.
He looked at her and became a little embarrassed. "Yeah I did, I guess you must mean more to me than they do."
He rubbed the back of his head feeling a bit uncomfortable. "Come on, I want to show you what I want to do to it." He grabbed her hand and started walking towards it.
She looked at him for a moment as they walked towards the unfinished house and her chest tightened with the love she was feeling for him, she secretly smiled. His words warmed her greatly and she felt a little giddy.
"You must mean more to me than they do."
She kept those words in her mind and wanted to cherish them forever. To be shown something that seemed really important to him and that he never showed another person was telling her in ways that he must not even realize. It got her wondering that maybe he will be willing to share the deepest inner parts of him, that no one else in the world knew about, to her one day.
They walked onto the half-finished porch and he stopped there. "I wanted it to go around the entire house. I was thinking that maybe I'll have the front facing the waterfall and pool, then maybe tearing down the trees to show the view of the ocean for the back, but I'm not so sure on it just yet. I might decide to build a garden instead, maybe keep the place hidden just in case." he said to her, looking around.
"A garden sounds more pleasant I think, but that's just my opinion. I know if I was able to build a house I would want a beautiful garden filled with lots of flowers and a wooden swing under a big willow tree. I want a patch of wild grass that grew wild dandelions where I could sit there and just pick them and make wishes." She laughed and smiled at him. "Maybe when I do get my own home, I could build something like that."
He stared at her for a moment and thought about what she said. Then he smiled at her. "What is your dream home, Sky?" he asked her, and he went to open the front door.
The whole exterior was still freshly made of wood that was just sanded. When they walked in, she was awed by the way the house was laid. They were in what was obviously a foyer and she could see the beginnings of large stairs, that curved a bit to reach the second landing. She looked up and saw that a railing went around the landing. The ceiling was a bit high and she could see that large holes, covered in white plastic wraps, were splayed out a few feet apart from each other, facing the front of the house.
"I'm going to put windows there. I also want to place a chandelier in the center of the ceiling. Actually, I was going to take the one from my mother's house and put it in here." he said to her, looking at what she was staring at.
"That's a great idea Fulk, I know she meant a lot to you, didn't she?" she asked gently, watching his expression.
He looked away from the ceiling and straight ahead. "Yeah, she did. She was everything to me, the one person I knew I could count on. With her, I knew that at least there was one person in this world who loved me unconditionally without any question of what I was." he said softly.
He looked over to her and gave a weak smile.
She took his hand in hers and squeezed it gently. "Now, you have me, so you're not alone anymore." she whispered to him, making him stare at her.
He gave out a huge breath. "So, tell me what your dream home is?" he asked again.
She looked around the place and thought for a moment. "Well, I always wanted to have a room that was rounded with a large, huge window facing the garden. And up top of the roof I want a balcony that has a built-in fire pit, so on clear nights I could sit there and stare up at the stars."
"I want to have lots of rooms against the back with large windows, with a built-in bench underneath, that way if I have guests, they could enjoy the scenery. Like this house, I want a porch that goes all the way around, and I want the basics of course. You know, the kitchen, bathrooms, a hallway and a den." she said in her dreamy like voice.
He watched her as she talked, and he suddenly had the urge to give her just that, her dream house. He looked around his unfinished work and started thinking of maybe tearing down some of his ideas and doing what she had just said.
He widen his eyes at the implied meaning of his thinking. He was actually thinking of building a home with her. A home they could both live in together and his heart beat a little faster at the vision he pictured of them. Of her actually sitting on the roof balcony with a fire blazing and him laying next her, watching her eyes light up at the stars.
He wanted that. He wanted all of that...with her.
They stood there in silence and she broke it by asking, with some hope in her voice, "Are you going to come back to school now?"
He looked a bit disturbed by her question. "I don't know Sky; I don't know if everyone else-"
"They all miss you Fulk." She cut in, making him look at her and he frowned. "It's alright, no one blames you for anything and-"
"They were terrified of me Sky; I saw their faces." he said harshly to her.
She stiffened at his tone. "Yes, they were, because they had never seen you like that before. Everyone is afraid of what they don't understand, which is why you need to show them that you're still the same person, still the same guy everyone knows and cares about." she told him.
He blew out air in his indecision and thought on it. "Maybe I'll try and see..." he said hesitantly, and she smiled.
"Blase hasn't left since you have been gone and Vivi is going insane with him being there." she teased, and he scoffed at that.
"Please, Vivi is probably keeping a close eye on him and will more than likely refuse for him to ever leave again." he said.
Sky smiled at him and pretended to take off lent from his shirt, that was still damp. "Maybe I feel the same way as she does, but towards you Fulk. So please come back, at least for me." she pleaded gently to him.
He pulled her close to him and closed his eyes as he leaned his forehead against hers. He wasn't for sure if he was ready to face them all again. They had seen a part of him that was more than they could have imagined. And the way Vivian had backed away in fear of him was hard enough.
What were their reactions going to be when he saw them? Blase, he knew would understand and act like nothing ever happened, but what about the others? Sky had forgiven him completely and she was the one who had gotten hurt. She accepted him, but will everyone else?
Guess he would just have to find out. He couldn't hide from them forever after all.
She hugged him tightly to her. That was another thing he needed to discuss with her, their relationship. He didn't think it was a good idea to show it until he knew for sure what it was that she was there for. He didn't want it going back to his father and have it blown up in his face. The others might understand, but a lot of the vampires in the school wouldn't. He couldn't cause trouble for Sky at the school.
He didn't want to admit that he was worried and a little scared of what would happen if this did get back to the council members. That they would disapprove of them being together with her still being a human. He shouldn't care at all, but a part of him did, he wanted that approval from them.
He didn't want to be an outcast and he definitely didn't want Sky to be one, but if they had too then he would. But he would do anything he could to change their minds before it would become drastic.
"Sky, we need to talk." he said to her and she looked up at him. His breath caught as he stared down at her. "We uh...we have to keep this a secret." he said stupidly.
She frowned at him. "Keep what a secret? Your house?" she asked confused.
"No, I mean us, this." He indicated them holding each other.
She let go of him. "Oh." she said flatly.
"It's not that I don't want people knowing, it's just my father and the reason you might be here and..." He sighed irritably at himself. "I don't want to do this, I would rather tell the whole world that you are now my girl, but I don't think others would approve or agree and try to pull us apart." he said quickly to her.
Sky didn't get past the part where he said she was now his girl.
She suddenly pulled him to her, and she kissed him with so much feeling and emotion to where they were both breathing heavily. She broke it and stared at him as she clutched his shirt in her hands and their faces mere inches away.
"Fine then, we'll hide this from the rest of the world Fulk, but don't hide this from our friends, our close ones that is. I want them to know that you're mine. And when everything is good with everything then I'm going to show to all that you're mine as well." she said with passion and a sense of possessiveness.
"You wouldn't have too, because I would have already beaten you to it." he whispered to her as he crushed her to him and continued that heated kiss.
