When the war ended, Khadroma and her family came out of hiding for the first time in over one hundred years. As distant relatives to the air nomads, they were forced to keep their heritage a secret under the iron fist of Fire Lord Ozai. Now, with a new Fire Lord and a re-instated Avatar, Khadro travels to Republic City to inform Avatar Aang that the blood of the airbenders lives on, nestled in the remote mountains of the Earth Kingdom. Khadro, like many in her family, is an exorcist gifted with "ghost eyes," the ability to see the spirit world and travel to it. Covered with dirt from the newly-paved roads of Republic City, Khadro bows at the Avatar's feet and offers him her services as an exorcist. The Avatar is happy to oblige.

Little does Khadro know, both Avatar Aang and Fire Lord Zuko have a specific, grueling task in mind. Princess Azula's trial has ended, and she has been declared legally insane. And who better to ease her troubled mind than an exorcist? But danger lurks on the horizon: a cloaked stranger plots to murder both Khadro and Azula by trapping them in the spirit world. The two girls have no other choice than to work together to get back home alive.

➙ this plot is based on m.h. boroson's novel "the girl with ghost eyes." please read the plot summary of that book before you request this plot!

➙ basically, khadro and her family are the descendants of air nomads who hid in the earth kingdom after the air temples were destroyed. khadro's family are not airbenders but they carry on the cultural traditions of the air nomads—spirituality, vegetarianism, nomadic lifestyle, etc. they were in hiding throughout the 100-year-war and kept their heritage a secret until aang returned. the avatar's return & end of the war allowed khadro's family to come out of hiding.

➙ khadro's family has a close connection to the spirit world because of their air nomad lineage. certain members of her family are able to see spirits and travel to the spirit world. khadro is one of them. she has "ghost eyes," or can see the spirit world and communicate with it. she and her father (who also has ghost eyes) were exorcists that keep spirits/monsters at bay in the earth kingdom.

➙ after lots of meditation, khadro figures out her purpose is to seek out avatar aang. once the war ends, she is finally able to do so. she and aang meet (in republic city as its construction begins), and it's an emotional moment for both of them, being the last of the air nomads. khadro volunteers her and her family's service as exorcists to aang. aang is unsure of a task to give her... until princess azula is put on trial and deemed legally insane.

➙ in my AU, aang took away azula's bending. but if you wanna keep azula's bending that's cool, too!

➙ based on the fact psychiatrists don't exist in a:tla, really the only therapy/treatment available for azula comes from shamans/exorcists. so, khadro's family is tasked with helping princess azula. fire lord zuko agrees to this. khadro, her family, and azula are relocated to the eastern air temple.

➙ now, khadro is not the best exorcist (her father is much better), but since khadro and azula are the same age, khadro is told to stay close to azula. khadro's father thinks azula needs friendship & help un-brainwashing (??) from fire nation propaganda.

➙ the problem is azula is not interested in making friends with anyone. azula feels betrayed by everyone, isolated & far away from home, and demoralized without her bending. khadro struggles to chip away at azula's walls. for maybe a month, khadro keeps trying and failing to connect with azula.

➙ also, khadro isn't thrilled that she has to be around azula, given how close she was to fire lord ozai. khadro isn't too warm to azula at first, and slowly starts to grow accustomed to azula's ways.

➙ one day, while khadro & azula are taking a walk around the grounds, they unwillingly enter the spirit world and khadro is unable to bring them back (for a reason to be explained). trapped in the spirit world, khadro and azula are hunted by evil spirits, pushing them farther and farther away from the air temple.

➙ being trapped together creates a bond between khadro & azula. they save each others' lives many times & start working together to figure out why they're trapped. khadro does her best to soothe azula's mental state. they're both logical, so they begin to appreciate one another.

➙ khadro's only weapons are her peachwood sword, talismans, and martial arts.

➙ khadro learns from communicating with spirits that her father has been attacked by a sorcerer, and this same sorcerer is the reason why khadro & azula cannot leave the spirit world. throughout the fic, khadro & azula battle evil spirits, but also make friends with good spirits. the good spirits decide to help the girls return home.

➙ one of these good spirits is the spirit of her father's hand!! khadro's father sawed off his own hand in prison to send it to the spirit world to help khadro find her way home...

➙ i can pm whoever takes this plot ideas on how to end the book, but my general plan was to have it revealed this evil sorcerer is actually an assassin from the earth kingdom trying to kill azula. khadro & azula use help from good spirits to take down the assassin and are finally able to return home.

➙ after this, khadro & azula are good friends, having had to rely on each other to survive for the past few weeks. by the end, azula is making progress & she and khadro are sorta kinda dating.
