Chapter one
"Hey Valentino!"
Said boy whipped his head around to see his two best friends running towards him. In the lead was a medium-height girl with dirty blonde, shoulder-length hair and semi-pale skin, sporting her signature red Stanford jacket over a shirt saying how rainbows were made and a white skirt covered with rainbows.
Right behind her was a tall, dark-haired girl with tanned skin. She was wearing a dark gray hoodie with black tights and vans shoes. Her hair was pulled into a messy ponytail with a pencil through it, in case she needed it. Soon the pair stood next to Valentino, slightly panting from running across the schoolyard to greet him.
"Where were you?" The shorter and more colorful of the two, Mikayla, asked after she caught her breath.
"My dad woke up late, so we hit the morning traffic." Valentino responded. He swept his dark black hair out of his eyes with his very tanned hand. His bright pink shirt and and green jeans really popped in the gray of the morning fog that hung around the schoolyard, like a lighthouse in the dead of night.
"You had me scared! Y'know, if you're late one more time, the school could suspend you!" Deserae, the taller one, lectured, not wanting to admit that she just wanted to see him.
"It's not my fault!" Valentino bickered, "Besides, that was only if I was late again, and I'm not." He stuck his tongue out at Deserae, making Mikayla burst into laughter at his playfulness. Deserae and Valentino exchanged looks, then joined Mikayla, laughing until the bell rang signaling that 123rd day of fifth grade was about to start. The trio quickly said their goodbyes and all ran off in different directions to their classrooms.

James Mondares. He was beautiful. With chin-length, wavy, dark hair that always had some sort of stylish hat on it. Chocolate skin and eyes like Twix. Nerdy. Kind. Intelligent. Gay. Just all-around amazing.
From Valentino's seat near the back to the classroom, he had a clear view of him, and had a habit of watching him. Watching how he interacted with people, watching his eyes light up when something came up in a class discussion that he was interested in, watching for that precise moment when he turns his head ever so slightly and the sun hits his eyes just right, making them the most beautiful blend of brown and gold-
"Valentino, could you read question number four?"
Valentino snapped out of his trance and stared back at the math packet that the class was working on together.
"Hm? Oh, sure. Sorry, I was reading ahead." He, expertly, lied.
"Oh really? Then I'm sure it would be no problem for you to show us how to do number 27?" The teacher asked, suspiciously.
Valentino shuffled through the pages and found number 27. '2.45 + 3.76' Easy, he thought.
"Sure." He got up from his desk and walked towards the front of the room. He took the white board marker from Ms. Barber and began explaining. "First, you set up the problem like a normal addition problem." He wrote 2.45 over 3.76 on the board and added an addition sign next to it. "Then, you sort of ignore the decimals for now and work out the problem." He did 245+376 and got the answer 721. "Finally, you bring the decimal down from the top..." he drew a straight arrow down from the decimal point to the answer. "Which gives you 7.21." He turned to face the class, who all had the mouths hanging open, including the teacher. They hadn't learned that yet. He walked back to his seat with his head held high, passing James on the way. In that moment of confidence, he went out on a limb and winked at him. Unbeknownst to him, James blushed.
"Omg, I just winked at my crush!"
"Omg, my crush just winked at me!"
So yeah! That's the first chapter! Now that I think about it, this story might be little longer than I thought. I'm making this story for two reasons. 1. To work on my writing skills 2. It's a secret! I'll tell you when the story's over! Welp, that's it! Stay safe my little ladybugs! (I'm gonna call you people that now) This is August, over and out!
