Chapter four

"Yo, Valentino! How's you rehearsal going?" Mikayla asked over the call she was having with one of her best friends. It was a week until the Talent Show, so everyone was in crunch mode.

"Pretty good, I'm just worried about how I'll be able to do it in front of people."

"Well, just remember that this isn't going to matter in, say, ten years. So, no need to stress."

"Thanks. That actually helps!"

"Really? Awww. Oh! Hey! Did you finish that science assignment that you've been putting off for a while? It's due in two days." Mikayla gently reminded Valentino, like he had told her to a week earlier.

Valentino's eyes bulged. "Crud! No! Bye Mikayla!" Then, he abruptly hung up.

Mikayla brought her phone away from her ear and sighed. Dramatically, she flopped onto her bed and let her mind wander. Superheroes and magic and love and betrayal. She was cut off from her thoughts when he mom called that dinner was ready.

~Le time skip~

Mikayla walked into school a little later than usual and walked to her class' line where everyone leaves their backpacks. On the way there, her amazingly precise ears picked up bits of conversation.

"You know the 5th grade dance is coming up!"

"Yo, Jesùs, don't you like that girl from Magnet? Makenzie?"

"Mikayla, you dummy."

"Ooooooh! You should ask her!"

"I dunno. I think she's lesbian."

Mikayla loved hearing other people's perspectives about her. However, this was too far. She whipped and said through gritted teeth. "For you information, I am pansexual. I don't give give a danm, as long as your nice, which you obviously aren't. So, no. I will not be going to the 7th grade dance with you."

The group looked tacken aback as Mikayla walked away, awed by the stupidity of everyone around her. "I'm basically surrounded by idiots." She murmured under her breath.

As she set her backpack down, she looked around for something to do. Gripping onto her jacket, goosebumps traveling down her body from head to toe, she grabbed a book from her backpack and made her way to the basketball courts.

There she found a bunch of boys running around and almost tackling each other to wrench the basketball from each other's hands. Over to the side stood a medium height, blonde, pony-tailed girl, calling to the ball. She ran around with the boys, but they never passed it.

Finally, all the boys were being blocked, so the boy with the ball had no choice but to pass it to her. She caught it and easily made a corner shot. Everyone's mouths were open, except Mikayla's. She had seen the girl, Samara, play basketball before, and she was good. Better than most of the boys but she never got a chance.

Yeah, she had a crush on a girl. So, what?

This chapter was a little more Mikayla related, sorry. Just thought she deserved some exposition. Also thought I would ask if you ladybugs would be interested in a book just about Samara and Mikayla...? Just wondering.
