Chapter 9
"When he puked, was there any blood in his vomit? So was there any red or even any dark red, maybe brownish or blackish stuff that maybe looked like ground coffee beans?" the nurse asked.
"I don't think so...?" Henry thought aloud.
"Hmmm... yeah, I don't think so," Charles nodded.
"I definitely would've noticed blood... so I can confidently say there wasn't," Shuichi was the only confident answer.
"Okay. And when he fainted, what was he doing just before that and how long was he out?"
"He was walking just before he fainted..." You stated the easy part.
"He was probably out for maybe thirty seconds or so... I know Henry poured something in Simon's mouth but I don't know what it was. But a few seconds later he woke up," Shuichi finished the explanation.
"It's an experimental formula I made that's supposed to cure sick people faster by making use of adrenaline... but without actually causing an adrenaline rush, just the speedy effects of the chemical and how widely it can be distributed is used..." Henry briefly explained.
"...That sounds dangerous for some teenager to be playing with," the nurse warned.
"Chill, lady! I'm the Ultimate Chemist, and just so you're aware you can thank me for my contributions to cancer research!" Henry huffed.
"Show-off," Charled muttered under his breath.
"I thought you said you weren't a doctor," Shuichi looked at Henry with puzzlement.
"Well yeah, I can't tell you what disease someone's got but as a chemist, if you tell me what somebody's got I can probably find a good way to stop it or slow it!" Henry bragged.
"I see..." Shuichi hummed in thought.
"Um... I'm sorry to interrupt but unless you're immediate family, it's now 3 PM so visiting hours are over for today... they're open 24/7 for family but otherwise on weekdays it's from 9 AM to 3 PM and on weekends from 7 AM until 8 PM..." the nurse sighed.
"Well... I guess that means we gotta go..." Henry awkwardly commented, looking over at Simon, "Get better, okay Simon?"
"Mm..." Simon barely groaned in response, and you hoped he was just tired and not hurt or anything serious like that.
"Well... bye Simon," You waved goodbye and left the room, everyone else saying their goodbyes and leaving. With a sigh you lead the group outside, "So what now...? We have no ride back to the college..."
"Ah, that's a lie!" Charles took out his phone, "It pays to have connections~"
He walked away as he made a phone call, and you hoped whoever he was calling got there fast.
"I'm hungry..." You thought aloud.
"When we get back on campus we could get something from the food court," Shuichi offered.
"Can we get a pizza? I'm kinda craving that," Henry smiled guiltily.
"Pizza sounds good," You agreed.
"Then I guess we'll have pizza," Shuichi chuckled.
~~~
"Sorry I can't join you guys," Henry sighed.
"It's fine! I get it," You nodded.
"Well, if you say so..." Henry still seemed pretty unsure about it.
"Really, it's okay. We'll hang out sometime later, okay?" Shuichi smiled a little.
"That sounds nice," Henry nodded.
"HENRY!! HURRY UP!!" Shaun yelled from a distance away.
"A-ah, sorry!! I better get going," Henry jogged to meet up with Shaun who was clearly very impatiently waiting.
"I'm glad I don't have to worry about stuff like that," You commented as you turned around and started walking to the food court, joined by Shuichi.
"Yeah, me too... especially at this age," Shuichi agreed, "On a brighter note... how about some pizza?"
"Heck yeah!" You giggled, making him giggle as well.
"What kind do you want?" Shuichi asked.
"Hmm... I want (pizza type)!" You declared. Shuichi chuckled a little and walked up to the cashier, placing an order for a cheese pizza and a (type) pizza {{if you want cheese he ordered two cheese pizzas okay?}}. The cashier told him how much it would cost and you started taking out your wallet to pitch in, but Shuichi stopped you.
"No (Y/N), let me pay," Shuichi half ordered.
"But I'm eating too, and it's only fair I carry my weight!" You complained.
"But it's polite to pay for you, so I am," Shuichi's expression changed to a slightly serious one, making you give up and put away your wallet.
"Fine..."
Shuichi smiled and paid for the pizzas, the cashier looking like he was trying so hard to keep a smile on his face, "Your food will be ready shortly, I'll call your order number on your receipt when it is."
The two of you sat down at a nearby table to wait, and you started the conversation, "So... how are you holding up after the whole incident with Simon?" You asked.
"I dunno... it was pretty shocking but I think he'll get better, so I'm trying not to worry," Shuichi nervously smiled, "What about you?"
"Pretty much the same as you," You sadly chuckled, "Oh yeah, but, there's some interesting news."
"What is it?" Shuichi seemed slightly bewildered.
"I ran into Maki earlier today in my GenEd math class. By the way, is she that, um... closed off to you?" You worded the question carefully. To your surprise Shuichi actually laughed a little bit.
"Surprisingly, no she's not. But it's really hard to crack her tough shell... the only reason she's so nice to me and Himiko was because of Kaito, actually," Shuichi smiled at whatever happy memories he was having.
"What did he do?" You asked, you had to hear this one.
"You know how I told you that Maki eventually started training with us?" Shuichi prompted.
"Yeah, what about it?" You tilted your head slightly.
"Well... the first time she joined was because Kaito rung her intercom over and over and wouldn't leave her alone unless she joined. She was pretty angry when it happened again at first but I guess over time she grew fond of our training... at one point Kaito stopped showing up to training or bothering her to go but she came on her own," Shuichi explained.
"That's... one way to do it," You awkwardly laughed.
"Kaito was pretty bashful but he had his own charismatic way of doing it..." Shuichi sighed, his smile turning to a frown, "To be honest, I miss him..."
"I'm sure that he's watching from somewhere," You tried to comfort Shuichi, not exactly being able to advocate much for Kaito but from what it sounded like he was a good person.
"Yeah... that's what I like to think too," Shuichi agreed.
"Order 137!" the cashier called.
"Ah, that's our order. I'll be back," Shuichi got up from his seat and walked to the counter, grabbing the two boxes of pizza before returning to his seat. He peeked into the boxes before handing you your box of pizza, "Wow, these are still pretty hot... I'm gonna wait for mine to cool."
You chuckled as Shuichi left his pizza box wide open and opened yours, touching a piece of pizza before sighing, "Yeahh, that's too hot to eat right now! ...Oh, but, question about Maki, why is she so closed off if she's the Ultimate Child Caregiver?"
Shuichi froze for a second before grimacing, "It's... not my place to talk about her talent..."
"...The child caregiving thing is a lie, isn't it?" You could tell Shuichi's hesitance was kind of unnatural.
"...Like I said, it's not my place to talk about her talent," Shuichi sighed.
"Okay, I get it. You're respecting her privacy," You smiled, and Shuichi nodded, "That's actually pretty honorable, to be honest!"
"Oh, um... th-thanks...?" Shuichi blushed a little bit from the compliment.
You giggled but it died down quickly, "Is it okay if I ask you a question you might not feel good answering?" While waiting for an answer you poked your pizza, finding it at a nice temperature so you began to eat.
"What's the question...?" Shuichi asked, eventually joining you on eating pizza.
"Um... what was everyone that died like...? Like, what were their personalities...? Y-you don't have to answer if you don't want to!" You quickly added.
"No, it's okay I don't mind answering but if you want me to talk about everyone it'll be a long answer. Are you sure?" Shuichi looked up and you, and you nodded, "Okay..."
"I guess I'll go in the order they died, so Rantaro is first... I only knew him for a few days before he was killed so I can't say a whole lot but he was a rather calm person in almost any situation... even when we were panicking he was usually one of the more rational minds. He also seemed pretty nice and I think he had a few sisters... but that's all I really know about Rantaro."
"And... next is Kaede. She was very kind to me, I remember I trusted her to the very end even after I accused her of murder... even when she admitted to her crimes she was so selfless about it... she kept saying that she was a monster but she wasn't, because she was just trying to save us all... I was the most effected by her execution and I remember Korekiyo warned me to avoid suicidal thoughts right after her death..."
"W-well, after that it was Ryoma... I didn't get to know him very well. He had destroyed an entire mafia with just a tennis ball and had served a lot of time in prison for murder, which had hardened him up a lot. He talked about how his life was worthless but he wasn't suicidal... he just didn't believe he had any reason to live. Even when Monokuma dug up motivation to kill from close loved ones, he didn't find anything for Ryoma..."
"...Then... next is Kirumi. She was very polite and selfless as the Ultimate Maid, and pretty much never made anything about herself or really talked about herself, except that she was there to serve everyone else. But she was rather intelligent, which she unfortunately used for bad, but when she was against the circumstances she was, murder to escape was the only option she could think of..."
"And then it was Angie... she was always in high spirits because she worshipped a god named Atua, who she claimed would guide her. Despite the fact she was sometimes rather bizzare she wasn't a bad person... she did sort of use kindness to manipulate people into believing in Atua and forming a sort of cult before her death, but she was just trying to do what she thought was best for the group, and because of her previous way of life she was used to being in charge with no questions asked because everyone believed in Atua and that she was Atua's prophet..."
"After that, it was Tenko... she had a great disliking towards all men because her Neo-Aikido master told her they were bad for her Neo-Aikido. She was very dedicated to her martial art and followed all sorts of rules her Neo-Aikido master told her, even though they were obviously meant for children..."
