Luke held on to his rose as he watched his mother from across the counter in the kitchen. She was making cupcakes for a Valentine's Day party they were having at their house.

"So did you get any roses this year?" His mother asked as she began to frost the cupcakes.

"23" Luke said sadly, looking at his rose in his hand.

"Then why haven't you given your rose away?" His mother questioned.

"I don't like any of those girls," Luke paused looking up, "I want to give it to Ashton."

"Anne's son? Luke he is a boy though." Liz said smiling.

"Your point?" Luke said as he helped his mother put the cupcakes on a tray.

"You'll never find your soulmate." Liz stated to the young boy.

"How do you know Ashton isn't my soulmate?" Luke said looking up at Liz with his icy blue eyes.

"Your soulmate is supposed to be a girl, Lukey." Liz said as she took the tray to the table.

"Says who." Luke shot back innocently.

Liz thought for a moment. Who did say that it can't be Ashton? Would it really be that bad if it is? Anne would be great to plan prom and a wedding with.

"Actually, Luke." Liz paused looking down at the boy. "Ashton could be your soulmate, any boy or girl could be." Liz said with a smile.

Luke's eyes filled with happiness just as the doorbell rang. Luke was like a bullet as he ran to the door and threw it opened. There stood the Irwin family with Ashton right in the front.

"Luke, how about you take the boys and girls to the living room to play?" Liz questioned as she came into the doorway.

Luke quickly grabbed Ashton by the hand and dragged him to the living room. When they got there Ashton's eyes grew wide as he saw the many toys and games set up, but soon his eyes landed on the books.

"Do you want to read." Luke asked with a slight smile.

"Yeah, Lukey." Ashton spoke softly, holding on to Luke's arm.

"Pick a book, and we can go up to my room, Ash." Luke said.

About ten minutes later Luke and Ashton were sat on Luke's racecar bed while Ashton read the book.

"Ash?" Luke questioned as Ashton fell silent as he read the last line of 'The Giving Tree.'

"She gave away everything while he gave her nothing." Ashton spoke sadly.

"She loved him Ashton, that's why." Luke said with a smile.

"What is love?" Ashton asked, looking at Luke with his innocent doe eyes.

"This is love." Luke said handing his rose to Ashton.

Ashton took the rose with his small hands and played with the petals.

"I like love, Luke." Ashton said quietly.

"I like love, too, Ashton." Luke replied.

An hour later Liz would find them asleep together. She would see the rose in Ashton's small hand, and from that moment on she knew that her child had found his soulmate.
