10. The divine union
Rukmini's tranquil moment with Krishna turned sour as her brother, Rukmi, approached them with a furious expression.
"You coward, Krishna! How shameless of you to abduct a woman like that!" Rukmi accused.
Rukmini, her delicate hands clutching Krishna's arm, found solace in his reassuring smile. Krishna, noticing the serenity on her face, gently placed his palm over hers before turning his attention to Rukmi.
"What do you mean, Yuvraj Rukmi?" Krishna mocked. "Taking someone against their will is abduction, if you're unfamiliar with it."
"None in my family wished for Rukmini to be wedded to you!"
Krishna wore a knowing smile, fully aware of Rukmi's deception. "It doesn't matter. Rukmini wanted to marry me, and a woman has the right to choose her own husband," he stated confidently.
Rukmi, rendered speechless by Krishna's clever words, grew even more infuriated and outraged. Rukmini watched as the verbal fight between her husband and brother escalated, tension thickening between them.
"My sister's marriage was already arranged with Shishupal! Aren't you ashamed to steal another man's bride-someone's property?" Rukmi accused, his voice filled with anger and venom.
Unable to tolerate Rukmini being insulted, Krishna's patience wore thin when Rukmi referred to her as mere property.
"Every woman is the embodiment of Devi Lakshmi. A woman has the power to bless people with wealth-she is not someone's property!" Krishna asserted firmly.
"Stop your nonsense, Krishna!" Rukmi yelled, then promptly challenged Krishna to a duel. Rukmini watched with a heavy heart as their verbal sparring escalated into a physical confrontation. She looked at her brother in disbelief, realizing he was behaving foolishly.
She grew frightened when Rukmi fell to the ground, nearly defeated. Seeing Krishna's anger rise as he summoned his Sudarshan Chakra, ready to unleash it towards Rukmi. Rukmini rushed to intervene between them.
"No, Madhav. Please don't do this! He's still my brother at the end of the day," she pleaded. Krishna, upon seeing her innocent face and tear-filled lotus eyes, instantly calmed down.
As the divine disc lingered on Krishna's index finger, a droplet of his sacred blood delicately escaped, descending gracefully to kiss Rukmini's forehead, radiating beautiful in her hairline, like vermillion.
Sensing the gentle caress, Rukmini blushed, her cheeks adorned with the hue of roses, while Krishna's smile mirrored the warmth of her blush. His gaze then shifted to Rukmi, who stood witness to this sacred exchange.
"See, Rukmi, the sister you troubled so much came to your rescue," Krishna remarked. "I won't kill you, but I can't let you go without a punishment." He smirked, using the Chakra to shave Rukmi's head as a visible sign of his defeat as a warrior.
Though Rukmi glared at him angrily, Krishna was least bothered. Taking Rukmini's hand, he walked toward the chariot.
"Send my regards to your family," Krishna said to Rukmi as they departed, Rukmini resting her head on his shoulder, exhausted from the drama. Finally, it was over.

Defeating the army of Jarasandh, Balram joined them on his horse.
As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the horizon, Balram suggested, "It would still take time to reach Dwarka, Kanha. Let's take a halt somewhere near."
"I agree, Dau," Krishna nodded, his eyes softening as he looked at his Maanini Mani. "It must be exhausting for you," he said, his voice filled with concern.
Rukmini smiled affectionately. "Depends on the company. Right now I'm fine." Her words made Krishna blush slightly, a bashful grin spreading across his face.
No sooner had they agreed upon Balram's suggestion, Krishna pointed towards the direction from which lights twinkled in the distance. Following the guidance of the light, they soon arrived at a picturesque village surrounded by lush green fields.
Entering the village, they were met with curious glances and hush whispers. Women peeped out from behind colorful sarees, children played with excitement, and elders nodded in respect.
Seeking shelter for the night, they found a warm welcome at a cozy inn. The innkeeper, recognizing Krishna's aura of divinity, greeted them with open arms. After introductions were made, Krishna and Rukmini shared their tale with the curious villagers.
As the villagers listened, they were moved by the princess's bravery and the Lord's unwavering devotion. Impressed by their commitment to each other, they expressed their admiration and gratitude.
Then, with heartfelt sincerity, they made a humble request- that Krishna and Rukmini honor their village by sealing their love in marriage right there.
Krishna and Rukmini exchanged a glance, their hearts filled with warmth at the villagers' request. With smiles of agreement, they accepted.
The auspicious date for the wedding was chosen by a Brahmin of the village- Jyestha Shukla Paksha Ekadashi, which was just two days away. They spent two joyful days there, filled with laughter and anticipation.
On the wedding day, the village came alive with the beat of drums and the scent of flowers. Under a majestic banyan tree, adorned with flowers and ornaments, Krishna and Rukmini exchanged vows.
With Balram beside them, who was beyond happy, they became husband and wife, their love blessed by the gods. As they embarked on their journey together, the heavens seemed to shower them with divine blessings, watched over by the villagers and his brother.

As Krishna approached the door of the small and cozy inn where Rukmini resided, the women around giggled mischievously. It was their nuptial night, and anticipation tingled his veins as he couldn't wait to see his bride.
For the past two days, he hadn't been able to meet her, adhering to the custom that the groom cannot see the bride before marriage. His mischievous thoughts of sneaking in to see her had been thwarted by Balram, who dutifully enforced the rule.
"What's gotten into you, Dau? What are you seeking revenge for?" Krishna questioned, a hint of annoyance in his voice.
Balram gave him a tight smile. "It's just a matter of two nights, Kanha. Have patience!" He repeated Krishna's own advice back to him, prompting an eye-roll from his younger brother.
Without further delay, Krishna stepped inside the small house, locking the door behind him. There, he found his bride, adorned like a goddess, sitting on the bed decorated with rose and jasmine petals. With the moonlight, and a lamp on side, the only source of light.
Rukmini shyly looked at him through her veil as he took a seat beside her. Krishna grinned at her coy gesture, leaning closer to whisper her name, "Rukmini."
Closing her eyes tightly, she let out a nervous giggle as he lifted her veil. Krishna teased her playfully, "Strange, before you were so eager to marry me, and now that I'm here, you don't even look at me."
She giggled in response, and he gently held her chin, turning her face towards him. "Please, open your eyes, priye," he requested softly.
Rukmini gave a shy smile, but before she could comply, Krishna intervened, "No wait, don't open your eyes."
"Why?" She sounded puzzled.
"Because your lotus eyes are so bewitching that they'll captivate my heart completely," he said, his voice soft and alluring, causing her heart to flutter.
She giggled shyly, "You really are natkhat."
"Why? What did I do?" He feigned innocence.
Blushing, she slowly opened her eyes, "There couldn't be a better way to open my eyes," she admitted, her gaze meeting his dusky, beautiful face, radiant like thousands of suns and moons.
He chuckled at her comment, "But what I said wasn't a lie."
Rukmini's cheeks flushed crimson, butterflies dancing in her stomach as she felt the symphony of love echoing in her ears.
"Rukmini, a husband is supposed to give his wife a gift on the first wedding night. What do you wish for, dearest?" Krishna inquired softly, his face nuzzling against hers as he pulled her closer, enveloping her in his embrace.
"Nothing, but just you, Madhav," she whispered softly, her face buried in his chest.
Krishna felt a surge of warmth and admiration for her pure devotion. "I really respect and appreciate your thoughts, Rukmini. But I want to give you something-whatever you ask for," he insisted gently.
Pulling herself back a little, she looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with anticipation. He drank in her pretty face, waiting for her request.
"I wish to have your flute," Rukmini requested, her voice barely above a whisper.
"Why not! I'll be the happiest if my flute is in your possession," he declared with a smile, pulling out the flute from behind his back the next moment.
Surprised, Rukmini looked at him in wonderment, but he just smiled, as if reading her mind. "Well, I just knew," he said with a twinkle in his eyes, leaving her enchanted by his magic.
After a while of holding her in his embrace, Krishna gently caressed her long hair and spoke softly, "It must be uncomfortable."
Rukmini gave him a puzzled look, following his gaze to her jewelry. "Yes, a bit," she admitted, reaching to remove her nose ring and placing it on the side table. As she proceeded to take off her necklace, Krishna stopped her, his voice filled with charm and love, "Let me do this tonight, please."
She nodded shyly, her heart fluttering as he removed her veil completely and began to unfasten her necklace. Rukmini felt her pulse quicken as his fingers caressed her neck with gentle precision.
Once he finished with the necklace, Krishna moved closer to remove her earrings. Rukmini closed her eyes, feeling the sensitive touch of his fingers on her earlobes. Then, with delicate care, he took off her bangles, ensuring they wouldn't hurt her delicate wrists, causing her breath to hitch with each touch, raising her pulse.
As he reached for her waistband, his fingers brushed against her bare waist and abdomen, sending a shiver down her spine. Leaning back against his chest, Rukmini blushed furiously, feeling his warmth enveloping her.
Krishna couldn't help but smile at the effect he had on his wife. Each of her innocent gestures only served to draw him closer to her.
With the waistband removed, he held her bare waist, leaning in for a tender kiss. Their lips met in a soft, gentle kiss, conveying the depth of their love for each other. Heat rushed to her cheeks, her delicate hands clutched his angavastra.
Gracefully, gently lowering her onto the bed, Krishna hovered over her, breaking the kiss to gaze into her blushing face before nuzzling her swan-like neck. The warmth of their embrace filled the room, cocooning them in a bubble of love and intimacy.
