Some drama sort of
James was up in the kitchen making breakfast for his family. James was a pretty good cook and he generally enjoyed cooking. Plus he was a bit of a morning person compared to some members of his family who felt one with the night.
"Hey are you guys going to come down for breakfast? I made bacon and eggs." James said calling out to his siblings. The first one to come downstairs was his brother Henry who looked like he woke up on the wrong side of the bed. "Good morning Henry." James said. Henry gave a slight little nod and sat down as Phillip entered the room. Philip also looked exhausted. "Let me guess you were up all night studying for band?" James said.
"Yeah I was. I didn't really get that much sleep last night." Phillip replied.
"Yeah I know you weren't in our room last night." Henry said. Phillip turned to look at Henry.
"You noticed I wasn't there?" Phillip asked surprised by his brother actually paying attention.
"Yeah I mean there wasn't a quite little lump in the bed next to me." Henry stated.
"Oh." Phillip said.
"So how was or oracting for band last night? Are you excited for the concert tomorrow?" James asked.
"Yeah I really am. I'm hoping someday to get into a music school. I'm slightly nervous..." Phillip said. Phillip was a quite kid he was a bit shy, but he was getting over it. Band really helped him with that he managed to make some friends and for the most part was pretty happy.
"Really? You shouldn't be. Your amazing." James said. Philip's smile grew a bit bigger.
"Yeah you are pretty epic for a band geek." Henry said as he gave a fake nuggie to his brother. Philip yelped in excitement.
"Thanks. I'm just nervous for nothing." Phillip said.
Just then Mary came down the stairs. "Ah Mary. Don't worry I made a special breakfast for you since I know you are a vegetarian. I made pancakes just for you." James said with a big smile.
"Thanks James that's really sweet of you." Mary said. She continued on. "But you should really let me help you. I don't want you to do everything on your own." Mary said. She couldn't watch her brother do everything and not help it just didn't feel right. Mary was the type of girl who liked to volunteer and help people and so did her brother James.
"What?" James questioned putting a tray down. "No way, you already help enough and besides serving breakfast is my thing, that and I'm totally happy to cook for you guys. I don't need any help." James said.
"Well that does make since you'll probably go to culinary school someday or become or do something in the field of psychology." Mary said.
"Well maybe, I haven't exactly decided yet, and it's not like I need to right away. I mean we are only in high school." James replied with a smile. Mary smiled too as James went back to carrying the trays.
Mary turned towards Phillip and Henry. "Morning boys." Mary said.
"Hey Mary." They replied.
"How's things going?" Phillip asked as James started to pour glasses of orange juice for his siblings. Just then their brother Kevin came down the stairs and grabbed on of the glasses on orange juice right out of Phillip's hand. Phillip looked flabbergasted for a moment then looked up at his "cool" brother.
"Hello everyone." He said with his award winning smile. The "winning smile" was a real big one with the ladies. "And things are going great now that I'm here." He said with another dashing smile. "Anyways art class is going great you should see the sculpture I made for the art show it really shows off the best part of me. Well every part of me is great oh and Mary made an amazing painting." Kevin said as he hugged Mary's side. Mary blushed from embarrassment her brother was so silly sometimes. "It's true sis you really are amazing. I'm not the type of person who would lie unless I'm on stage." Kevin said. Kevin was the kind of popular kid. He was artistic, talented, a great actor and he had an amazing sense of style, a bit of diva with a slight ego problem, but he really loved his siblings.
Just then Cynthia came down with Devon. "I'm surprised Cynthia is out of the bathroom this early." Henry said. Cynthia scrunched her nose at Henry.
"At least some people care about their apprence in this family instead of dressing like some stupid skater boy." Cynthia said. Henry rolled his eyes. Devon ignored Cynthia and Henry as they started to bicker plopping her bag down and taking a seat at the table.
"What's for breakfast James?" She asked. James turned around with a smile.
"Bacon and eggs I also have pancakes if you would prefer that." James said.
"I'll take the bacon and eggs. They have higher protein or at least the eggs do than pancakes." Devon replied. James smiled and set a plate down for her.
"So how are things Devon?" James asked warmly.
"Good I guess. I just spend most of lunch break up in the library reading." She replied.
"Well that's good I'm glad you enjoy reading so much. I honestly wish I had more time to read." James said.
"Hey where is he?" Mary asked suddenly. Her siblings turned to look at her.
"He who? There are two hes you could be talking about." Devon stated.
"He as in Lucas." Mary said. Everyone either sighed or paused for a moment. Lucas had been acting strange.
"Well Lucas is being all emo again." Kevin stated. Mary seemed slightly uncomfortable with Lucas and Devon's gothic ways, but she loved them anyways. Especially since Lucas had been ditching school recently.
"Yeah he's kinda like you in some ways Henry." Cynthia said to her brother. Oh boy could these two ever stop fighting? No probably not. Henry gave a slightly annoyed face narrowing his dark green eyes at Cynthia. The others laughed.
"Well blondes are dumb." Henry replied. James and Cynthia glared at Henry for a few minutes.
"Well your the only brunette in the family." Cynthia said.
"That just makes me original." Henry replied. James had blonde hair and blue eyes and so did Cynthia. Devon had black hair and gray eyes and her skin was really pale. Like seriosuly I don't think this girl knows what the sun is. Same with Lucas and Phillip both Lucas and Phillip had pale skin and jet black hair. Lucas had dark green eyes like Henry and Phillip had blueish gray eyes and glasses. And Kevin and Mary were red heads. Kevin with brown eyes and Mary with blue eyes.
Just then there was a knock on the door. Cynthia looked up from her phone and walked towards the door to open it. John came in and Cynthia went up to him giving a little kiss at his cheek. John was Cynthia's boyfriend and the two of them really loved each other. Some of Cynthia's siblings were a bit surprised that she had managed to actual find a boy she liked since Cynthia was a bit of a flirt at times kinda like Kevin.
"Hey where's Lucas?" John asked as he searched the room.
"Who knows he's probably gonna ditch school today." Mary said with a hint of sadness and worry in her voice. John searched everyone's expressions and realized that Lucas had been acting strange lately.
"Maybe he's just working on another one of his projects?" James asked.
"I doubt it. Lucas would never work on a project without help. He kind of likes working with his siblings." John said. Lucas was a genius the type of person who would grow to become a famous scientist like Albert Einstien, but recently he was acting out.
"Hey we need to go wake up our brother." Cynthia said.
"Sleeping in as usual?" John asked.
"Yeah. He isn't always a morning person." James said. The siblings and John ascended the stairs. They found their brother asleep in his bed.
"He's gonna be late for school." Phillip said.
"I know and I quite frankly don't want to end up being late myself." Devon said.
Everyone ascended the stairs.
When they got upstairs they saw that their brother and John's friend was asleep.
Everyone stood still for a minute until Henry got an idea.
Henry picked up a stuffed animal and threw it at their brother. James and Kevin cracked smiles and Phillip tried to hold in his giggling.
Shaking his head their brother let out a groan.
"You guys are the worst." Their brother said.
"Are you up now?" Kevin asked.
"Obviously. I wouldn't be talking if I wasn't." Their brother said.
Everyone gave Kevin weird looks. Kevin felt sheepish for asking such a stupid question.
The boy rubbed his head and picked up the stuffed animal.
"I'm sorry." Henry said.
"Liar." His brother replied as he turned his attention to his best friend John.
"Come on Michael we need to go to school." Cynthia said.
"Since when did you care about school all you care about is boys." Henry said.
"And all you care about is how long you get away with no washing your socks." Cynthia replied. Everyone cracked a little smile, since they knew how lazy Henry could be at times. Henry decided to not reply and just walked out of the room as everyone else followed after him. Their brother took the stuffed animal and placed it in his backpack.
They then descended the stairs this time not ascended. Ascended means to go up descended means to go down. I'm sure you all knew that, I just felt I should remind you how words work.
They all ended up going to school. What great transitions are being used.
Everyone sort of split up into their own little groups. Phillip went over to talk to his friends from band showing off his skills at playing the flute. Kevin went to join the drama kids and they all started screaming and cheering and being incredibly loud which was typical for drama kids. James went to hang with his friends. Henry went over to the skaters and Devon grabbed a book decided to read it. John and their other brother decided to hang out and talk.
That just left Cynthia and Mary. Things were awkward for a moment as Cynthia stared at her nails avoiding her sister.
"Hey Cynthia I was hoping maybe you'd want to help at the soup kitchen with us and the rest of the..."
"Do I look like I care." Cynthia said cutting off Mary as she spoke she then walked off to join her gal pals leaving Mary alone.
Cynthia had some issues with Mary issues that were never really talked about.
Mary had friends she just was a bit of a wallflower at times. Mary then realized that Lucas still hadn't shown up to school. If Lucas didn't show up well. Mary was distressed she cared deeply for her brother and wanted to make sure everything was alright guess that was just her nature. Mary got up and went over to her siblings to ask them where Lucas was.
After reaching that no one had seen Lucas either the siblings and John all gathered around.
"Look if Lucas doesn't show up soon he's gonna get in trouble the bell for class is gonna ring in a bit." Phillip said nervously.
"Yeah and if Lucas is late he'll ruin any chance he has at getting into a good college they probably won't take Juvenal delinquents." Their brother said.
"Yeah like Henry." Cynthia replied. Henry just rolled his eyes.
"Please I'm too cool for college." He said trying to sound edgy.
"Your gonna be the kind of person who ends up living in a box with that kind of attitude." Cynthia replied.
Just then Lucas arrived to school on his motorcycle. Lucas had his ears pierced and he was a leather jacket. He looked like a goth or a bad boy. A couple of girls who were Cynthia's friends were into stupid romance novels swooned a bit. Cynthia felt uncomfortable with her friends liking her "bad boy" brother.
"Did mom say he could get a motorcycle?" James asked with a stunned expression.
"No, I asked her if I could get one and she said they're too dangerous." Henry said.
"Is this his way of trying to get girls?" Kevin asked.
"Maybe. I mean girls do like bad boys." Cynthia said. John looked slightly upset with Cynthia's statement since he would not be deemed as a "bad boy."
Their brother walked right up to Lucas. "Where have you been?" He asked Lucas in a rather harsh tone.
"Thinking about stuff." Lucas said avoiding his brother's gaze.
"What kind of stuff?" His brother asked.
"Stuff." Lucas replied. His brother was losing his temper.
"Yeah and by stuff do you mean jeopardizing your future. Our future." His brother said.
Lucas and his brother had made plans to work together someday. And Lucas was really going though a lot right now.
"Michael." Lucas said with a hiss.
He just called him Michael.
Michael hated his given name.
No one ever came up with a nickname that he liked
Mike and Mikey just sounded weird
" Lucas you better tell me what's going on?" Michael said it wasn't an ask but rather a demand.
Lucas just glared at Michael. Michael didn't understand what he was going through no one did. "No, and right now I need to get to class. I do not need another detention." Lucas said as he brushed past Michael and went to class.
The rest of the day was sort of awkward. Everyone was busy with their own thing, but they secretly worried about Lucas and Michael and well everything.
Later on after school in the bathroom
"I'm sorry if I made you upset." Michael started awkwardly. Lucas turned and looked at him.
"Whatever." Lucas said. He avoided looking at Michael. The situation was kinda awkward this wasn't the first time Lucas and Michael had butted heads recently. No one really knew what to say until Michael got an idea.
Michael reached into his backpack and pulled out a stuffed dinosaur the one Henry had thrown at him. "I remember when I got you that for your fifth birthday. I asked mom if I could have a couple of dollars to get you something. Surprised you kept it." Lucas said.
"I kept it cause your my bother and despite us growing distant I thought you'd like to see a movie with us at home and I just wanted to see if you would come?" Michael asked. Michael felt for inviting his own brother over to his own home.
"Sure I guess." Lucas said. Lucas figured that watching a movie would take his mind off of his thoughts, plus it would be nice to reconnect his family.
After school everyone went to chill and watch a movie.
A cool spy movie was playing it took awhile to choose a movie that would interest everyone. Musicals were banned because some people would not stop singing songs weeks after watching the movie. -Cough Kevin cough- Who said that?
Michael was busy with his thoughts wandering what was wrong with his brother and why he was acting so distant lately. Devon was always a bit distant, but that was normal for her. She was always mysterious or a vampire. Just kidding.
The movie ended and everyone struggled to think of anything to say. It was awkward having Lucas be here since he had ran ways to the circus nah I'm just kidding Lucas doesn't like clowns.
James picked up the remote and started changing the channels to see if anything interesting was on he eventually stopped when his brother spoke. Michael had finally managed to break the ice a little.
"You know we should come up with nicknames for ourselves." Michael suggsted after finishing a spy movie. Code names and nicknames sounded really cool to him. Besides Michael hated his given name. It just didn't feel right to him.
"Usually I'm the one with the odd ideas. And first off why?" Kevin asked.
"Because it would be fun." Michael said. Cynthia sighed and rolled her eyes.
"I'll be Pink." She said.
"Pink? Why?" Michael asked.
"Hey your the one who wanted to do this stupid nickname thing. And I choose pink because it's the best color." Cynthia said. Michael put his hands up in defense.
"No way Orange is a much better color." Kevin stated.
"Whatever." Cynthia said rolling her eyes.
"I'll be Yellow. It's a pretty cool color if you ask me." James said with a smile.
"Are we seriously naming ourselves after colors right now? Is that like a thing?" Lucas asked.
"Yes. Yes it is." James said.
"I'll be Blue." Phillip said. "It's a nice color I like the various shades of it, plus I wear blue a lot." Phillip said. The others nodded.
"Green." Henry stated as everyone turned to him. "Green is a fine color." Henry said. His siblings agreed to that.
Everyone then turned to Lucas.
"Purple sounds like a good nick name." Lucas said.
"Purple is a girls color." Cynthia replied.
"Oh shut up. You wanna be Kylie Jenner." Lucas replied. (My attempt to be modern and relevant)
"Purple can totally be a boy color any color can be a boy girl or a a girl color." James said.
"If we're seriously doing this I'll be Gray." Devon said.
"I don't wanna be a stupid color." John said.
"You have to we're all doing it." Kevin said.
"No way man I'm gonna nick name myself after that guy." John said.
"That guy?" Michael asked with a confused look on his face.
"That guy Barney." John said pointing to the TV. James was channel flipping earlier and couldn't find anything a little kids show ended up playing in the background with a talking purple dinosaur.
"You want to be named after a purple dinosaur?" Lucas said raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah why not? I mean he's pretty cool kids like him right?" John said. Lucas sighed. A purple dinosaur really John?
"What should I be?" Mary asked.
"Yeah I think most of the good colors are taken." Michael said. Michael secretly hoped she wouldn't take the color he wanted to be called.
"Hmm..." Michael thought to himself. "How about Chartreuse?" Michael asked. Mary made a face in disgust.
"It's not a very attractive color." Mary said.
"How about um hot pink?" James asked. Then he paused realizing that wasn't the best thing to say. "I mean Magenta." He said. Mary smiled a bit.
"Magenta sounds lovely." She said.
"And I'll go by Red." Michael. Michael's favorite color was red so it was fitting that he'd be nick named red.
"Why red?" Henry asked.
"Because red is clearly the best color, it's so creative unlike green." Michael said with a smile.
"I have bad feeling we're all gonna fight over what color's better. It was smart of you John to choose a non color as your nickname." James said.
"Yeah Henry and Cynthia will probably find more things to fight about now." Phillip said with a hint of sadness in his voice.
"Maybe, but I'm just glad I'm not named after a "girls color."" Henry said. Lucas rolled his eyes.
"Hey better to be named after a "girls"color than a stupid purple dinosaur." Lucas said.
Everyone laughed and had a good time till it faded away...
Faded away
He slowly started to wake up.
Blinking a couple of times as he vision adjusted.
He started to sit up and rub his eyes.
He stretched letting out a small yawn.
He wasn't exactly happy to be up but he had to be.
He then felt an odd sensation.
His eyes darted around the room as he felt something weird around his waist.
He lifted his pajam top up and saw it.
A red tail.
The boy started panicking.
Why did he have a tail? All these strange thoughts started racing through his mind. His heart pounded.
And then he realized what had happened.
Red had a dream of him and his friends being "normal" being humans.
The dream felt so real that he almost forgot about his real life.
Red quickly checked to make sure everything else was there. He took his finger and ran it over his teeth. His fangs were there that's good and so were his claws and gills. Yep everythings normal or well normal for him and his family.
IMPORTANT NOTES
(So there was this other chapter that I was gonna publish first, but then this idea of making a what if they were human chapter came into my head. I wandered what names they'd have and what they're lives would be like. Plus I couldn't resist the urge to publish this!)
(I also really tired to make this shorter than the usual chapters) (Some parts probably seem rushed maybe hopefully not) (I may even revise this later) (I just kinda liked this idea I may do something with it later)
