Ruby red
Kenna's PoV
I turn around as Adrian follows me to the door.
"You might want to have a shower and get dressed," I say noting the fact that he's wearing the same clothes,"there's some spare clothes in the wardrobe upstairs."
"Oh...right!" He replies before scuttling back upstairs.
I lazily slip on my boots which I'd placed beside the wall and open the door, the brass doorknob is cold on my hand.
A chilling wind bites my face as I step outside, carefully shutting the door behind me, which makes a satisfying 'click'. Sitting down, the slightly damp grass tickles the bare parts of my crossed legs. I reach into my pocket, this time I grab my iPod, my earphones are still plugged in them. I untangle the knot of wires and slip the buds into my ears, this time Abba blasts through at full possible volume.

A low rumbling sound calls down the road. I pause super trouper and take the earphones out of my ears hastily, as two floating headlights slowly make their way into the car park on the other side of the stream, stopping and switching off in a free parking slot.
I stand up as two figures (both boys) step out of nowhere, though in the same parking slot as the headlights. The first to appear dons a leather jacket, skinny jeans and has hair dyed a fierce scarlet red, an unsettling scowl is set on his face. The other boy has blonde hair dyed a light blue at the ends, unlike his peer, his expression is calm and neutral; trendy tortoise shell framed glasses bob on his nose.
"Heya Kenna!" Calls the blonde one, as the two make their way over the slippery bridge.
"Hi Luke," I call back, returning the friendly smile he gives me...the red one continues to scowl.
"Why the long face Jack?" I ask raising my eyebrows, as they stop in front of the cottage.
"You interrupted my date! I was finally getting somewhere as well!" Jack snarls.
"Jeeeez! Such a drama queen!" I roll my eyes,"Anyway, Christie is so not your type! Stop 'experimenting' and wasting girls times and just accept that you're-"
"Do not say it!" He whispers, his voice going dangerously low,"Surely you've read the books Kenna, my kind don't look kindly on those who are..." He shivers and makes a disgusted sound.
"Ohh Kay. Changing the subject...where is this friend of yours?" Luke intercepts.
"Oh he should be down in a-"
I'm interrupted by the sound of the door opening behind me.
"God! Who's clothes are these Kenna? They're ginormous!" Adrian complains, tugging at the hem of the top he's wearing which is indeed way to big on him.
"You!" Jack spits, his eyes meeting Adrian's,"THIS is your 'friend' Kenna! Do you even know how much danger he is to your kind?!"
A sudden bubbling of anger at both Jack and myself surges over me, I forgot to tell them that my supposed 'friend' was one of the worlds most wanted criminals.
"MY KIND?! And when have you been interested in the safety of my kind, huh? Last time I checked yours and my kind were worst enemies!" I shout back, looking over at Luke for help, though knowing I won't get any as I see his face, deathly white.
"Ugh! It's not your kind, it's more about you and Luke! And besides, anyone who's a threat to your kind is a threat to mine as well!" Jack growls back.
"Your kind? There're different kinds now?" Adrian questions, utterly bemused.
No Adrian! Bad decision! Oh god, why?! That just turned Jacks attention right back to you!
Jacks eyes flame and turn a bright fiery glowing red...I know that look...
Before I can do anything, Jack charges at Adrian, faster than what should be possible.
Adrian's PoV
The red head sprints at me in a blur of black and scarlet...everything then seems to go into slow motion... His fist extends, aiming for my face, and I only have enough time to step to the side and dodge, as he goes hurtling into the door instead of my face.
Howling in fury, he turns to face me, his eyes are still flashing a bright Crimson as he kicks upwards. This time he's faster than I expect and I'm knocked several feet back at the sheer force of his foot colliding with my face...he's a lot stronger than he looks...
He spins around as my head suddenly bursts with pain, I put my fingers on my temple and they come away sticky with fresh blood that seems to be steadily flowing down my cheek.
"You bastard!" I hear Kenna scream before the world tumbles into and infinite void of darkness.
Kenna's PoV
I rush over to where Adrian lies in a small puddle of his own blood.
"Luke do you have the cordial?" I ask keeping my eyes fixed on Adrian's wound, my voice shaking slightly.
"LUKE?!" I say firmly when he doesn't reply turning around in time to see him snap out of his reverie and pat down on his pockets, finally retrieving a a small glass vial containing a shimmery, translucent, golden liquid.
Snatching it out of his hand I pop it open and kneel back down beside Adrian, carefully pouring the liquid onto his forehead .
Sitting back I watch as his wound slowly reseals itself and the trickles of blood fade back into his head. Behind me I hear Jack mutter glumly,"I wish my kind could make potions!"
"Your kind can make potions, but you just have to be at the right ability level to," I say, raising myself off the ground,"Now, are you two just going to stand there or are you going to help me lift him into to the car," I carry on, gesturing at the two floating headlights in the minuscule car park.
"Oh no! We're not going to help bring him in there! I'm not driving in a car with that in it!" Jack states.
"May I remind you of the runaway incident, 2015?"
The boys exchange a look and sigh.
~~~~{•-•}~~~~{•-•}~~~~{•-•}~~~~
"He's slipping!" Luke cries as we make our way into the bridge.
"Oh for gods sake!" Jack murmurs under his breath. Speaking up he says,"Kenna you hold his shoulders here!"
"What are you gonna do?" I inquire as I take hold of Adrian's shoulders.
Jack walks around Adrian, grabbing his back and legs, taking all of the weight. Me and Luke let go and sag in relief as Jack carries the unconscious body over the bridge 'princess style', his yes gleaming red once again.
"I really hate it when he does that!" Luke moans following after Jack and the 'sleeping beauty'.
"You really need to work on the headlights," I say as we approach cottage 23's parking spot,"otherwise, the invisibility is pretty decent."
Jack swings open the invisible passenger seats door, revealing the inside of the car, which ultimately doesn't need an invisibility coating. Luke pulls back the chair, revealing the two seats in the back and Jack flings Adrian onto them.
"Careful!" I warn them, clambering into the back as well.
I prop the still unconscious Adrian up onto one of the seats, clicking his seatbelt into place before doing the same with my own.
"Couldn't you get a bigger car?" I ask, as Jack secured his seatbelt and revs up the engine.
"The invisibility's more expensive on those ones," Luke answers as Jack slowly reverses out of the car park.
Once on the road, he slams down on accelerate and we zoom off into the night faster than the fastest racing car in the history of fast racing cars...ok I'll stop with all the 'fasts'.
"So, what ability level is he?" Jack quizzes me.
"Oh I hadn't really thought about that, he doesn't seem to know anything about our world," I remark remembering how our levelling system works.
All average humans are ranked 10 or below seeing as they don't have any 'powers'. The highest level possible is (you guessed it) 100! There are a number of ways to increase your level such as, 'growing up'- both you and your ability mature. There's also 'controlling your ability'- learning to use your ability safely, using it when you want to and for however long you want (that's usually accomplished by using your ability more frequently). The final way to level up is by learning more about your ability and our world, that's the easy way of levelling up though it does mean endless hours of painful studying.
"I'd probably say somewhere in the 30's seeing as he knows nothing about our world, and also he's not as strong as he'd normally be," I say after pondering over it for a minute.
Jack grunts and focuses back on the road, he's probably annoyed that his and Adrian's levels are quite close.
"So what's your level?" I hear Adrian say.
I jump in my seat and turn to look at him now awake and alert, he grins.
"Don't do that!" I say, playfully pushing him,"Oh and I'm a 71," I answer.
"71?! Only a few weeks ago you were a
66!" Luke exclaims,"uhhhh! I can't believe you're higher than me!"
"That's really high!" Jack says.
"What can I say?" I reply flicking my hair.
"Alright we're hear," Jack announces, drumming his fingers on the wheel.
"Already? Jack that took 3 minutes! That was way quicker than last..." I look outside and sigh,"Jack this is Christie's house!"
"Yes, and I might just be able to save my date!" Jack says opening the door, chucking the keys at Luke as he makes his way towards Christies pretty huge house.
I climb across the chair Luke just pulled down and into the windy London (super early) morning.
"I guess we're walking!" I grimace as Adrian follows after me.
What does Jack mean by his kind? What is Adrian's exact level? What's all this about potions? Find out in next weeks chapter!
