Epilogue
"Verina's staying here now?" Husk asked. "After what happened?"
Charlie nodded, happily squeezing Verina's hand. "I'm really glad to say that she is!"
"What if she's conspiring against us?" Husk asked, crossing his arms. "I don't mean to be rude, of course, but you can understand my suspicions."
Verina nods. "I get it."
"She saved my life." Oxie said. "Even if this is part of some master plan to keep me alive for whatever stakes that are bound to rise, I can't say I'm not grateful to be here."
"...I guess. Well, you know the rules. Bar closes at 11. If you want a drink after that, uh... come take it, I guess."
Cynthia nodded. "The Vees did the same thing with Pentious. If he got a second chance... I want her to have one too."
Verina smiled at her, and turned to look at Angel. "So... you lied about a lot of things."
She nodded. "I did. And I'm sorry."
"So you never actually defended Val's workers in the porn studios?"
"...no. And I'm sorry. I should have, I know first hand what it's like. And I'm sorry I lied about it. But the other stuff I told you was true."
Angel nodded. "...what, even about how Val was with you? You understand you were groomed?"
"...that conversation left a bad taste in my mouth. I started realising how much they... used me. When I went back to them, um... it was all confirmed, Vox pretty much told me how useless I was and that I was only there for Valentino's sake, and... yeah."
Angel nodded. Charlie smiled. "You made mistakes, Verina, and none of us will deny it. But... we're all about second chances. It's the entire point of the hotel. And, what you did on the battlefield... shows you want to learn from this."
"Do the Vees know you're here?" Oxie asked.
"...uh, they've probably figured it out."
She stared at her. "You didn't tell them?"
"...maybe I'll send an email to Vox later." she gave an awkward smile.
"Oh, that'll come straight through to me." Cynthia replied. "...is he expecting me to come back to work after all this? I mean..."
"I'd guess so. Valentino's already on my case about when I can film again." Angel replied.
Cynthia sighed and petted her dog gently. "Well, whatever he wants, I suppose. I'll fill you in on the metaphorical tea, Verina, dear, don't worry."
Verina smiled. "Thank you."
"So..." Charlie placed something into her hand. "Here's your key. Enjoy your stay at the Hazbin Hotel."
Verina smiled. The last few months had been some of the strangest of her life, but for the first time she felt truly comfortable, appreciated, she'd go as far as to say she felt loved.
It would be a long road, and she understood that. But right now she felt truly victorious.
