Chapter Nine: The New Man in Charge

(Threa)

Uh.... God my head fucking hurts. Why does it hurt? Shifting slightly my entire body throbbed. Why does everything hurt? What happened? I was sitting with Poppy and then.... Then everything went white.

A rough long wet swipe went up my cheek jolting my eyes open as they focused on Gerald who tonged my cheek again.

"Ugh, Ger," grabbing hold of the furry beast, I sat up gasping. The terminal is in ruins, a large crater in the roof, bodies and stones lined the platform as those who were awake were fighting off Dark Wizards that were ripping young girls from the crowd lining them up in front of a man not many years older than me near its rails. "Bloody Hell," I held tighter to the beast moving quickly to hide behind some crates as I watched the man.

He was tall, 180 centimeters at least, burly with a broad chest and a faint beard. The crowd's screams continued as he paced each new step commanding attention. His face was hard, bushy eyebrows furrowed, as he kept looking nervously into the tunnel patience clearly running thin.

Gerald struggled in my grasp as Poppy's scream filled my ears, she was nearly five meters from us. A thinner man yanked her up by her hair as she shrieked in pain, I went for my wand finding it gone my stomach dropping. Damn it! I hurried to my feet, dropping the beast trying to summon my wand but it was missing. I must've lost it in the blast. Hurriedly scanning the ground Poppy screamed again as I willed and prayed for my wand to appear as something incredibly long and smooth flew to my hands.

A black matte wood I'd recognize anywhere. It's Ominis' wand.

"GET OFF ME YOU PREWTRID GHOUL," Poppy yelled as I tightened my hold on the handle sending a Confringo her attacker's way, he locked eyes with me laughing as the spell absorbed in his armor.

"Got a friend I see," he sneered.

"Let her go!"

"Sorry dearie, can't. Boss wants you girls lined at the front, wana make this easy for me and come quietly?"

"Rather keep it difficult if I can," he yanked harder at Poppy, a pained whimper escaped her lips as her jaw clinched refusing to scream again.

"Threa run," she spat. I sent a few more charms his way the armor absorbing as much of my casts as it could until my magic broke through, the man grunting in pain.

"Bloody bitch," he threw her behind himself as another man took her disappearing in the crowd. He stomped towards me in a fury, ready to make me scream like he did Pops.

"Did that hurt," I mocked innocently as he grunted in return. "I'm sorry I don't speak neanderthal you'll have to translate that to English."

"Watch your tongue, else I'll cut it out when we're done with you."

"Come now that isn't the way to make friends," I stepped slightly back to lead him further away, the screams from the crowd grew. Terror filling the terminal.

"Round em all up," a burly man yelled, as the dark wizard before me smiled wickedly. "No one makes it out of here until I find her!"

"Boss needs to see ye dearie."

"Trust once I'm done with you he's next."

"Heh, feisty. I like that," his head tilted looking me up and down. "Pudgier than my usual but I could fuck that outta you," he took a vile step forward. Ominis's wand shot a Deffindo slicing his head clear off tumbling towards me. I stared at the thin rod in awe.

I didn't cast that.

The man's body fell with a hard thud as another familiar scream cut through my confused daze. Running back towards the front of the terminal. I hid back behind a stack of crates as the burly man held a thin brunette by wand point, her eyes a glowing emerald green making my stomach churn. He's using unforgivables.

"No," the girl said as the man grunted tossing her aside reaching out for another as the crowd screamed. More casts flew, some hit his henchmen, but whatever absorption charm that coated their armor took the brunt of the hits. What is this magic? The man pulled another girl casting imperious again.

"Are you the ancient magic wielder?" He's looking for me?

"Pst," something nearby hissed. "Pst," they said again more urgently as I saw Everette hiding behind the luggage pile near the back as he motioned me over. Sneaking as best I could I turned the crate to see him beaming wide next to a pissed Anne.

"Hi Threa," he whispered cheerily. "Glad to see you've kept from that injurious bunch!"

"Anne," I scolded ignoring Everrett, having a hard time keeping my voice at a whisper. "What in Merlin are you doing here?"

"Trying not to get bloody taken, what the hell are you doing still here?"

"I'm gonna stop them."

"They're looking for you!"

"Yes, I gathered that as well," I grimaced. "But there's not much else choice, they're using unforgivables. They'll keep hurting people until they find me... I have to stop this before someone gets killed."

"And if they kill you," she spat. "AH," she cried hunching over as Everrett looked horrified.

"Anne! Merlin is it the curse again," she nodded through gritted teeth.

"I'll be fine," her breath was ragged as she clutched to my arm, eyes pleading. "Threa, please. I already must deal with my brother and Ominis being bloody idiots, don't join them in their stupidity.... If he's looking for you, he's bound to want something nefarious. Kill you or use you or worse," she spat. "I did not get discharged from Mungos just to watch you die," she ground out through the pain squeezing Everetts hand in a bone breaking grip making him cry out.

"Ease up Sallow that's my chaser arm," he whined as she let go of him looking at me sternly rolling her eyes at the man.

"Why ever Ominis thought leaving me in your care was safer," she growled as my stomach churned. Ominis... I looked out to the frantic crowd trying to see him, but he was lost amongst its masses.

"Where is he?"

"With Garreth, he got hit with the Incarcerous hex, Ominis was trying to free him when he ordered me and Anne to hide," Everett said quickly as Anne let out a struggled breath.

"His wand is missing; he can't see a thing."

"I know," I whispered meeker than intended revealing the long piece of wood. "It came to me when I was fighting off one of these prats."

"It came to you," she nearly spat, closing her eyes as she took another ragged breath. "It's alright he has my wand," she said trying to calm herself more than me.

"Good," I nodded taking in the crowd. Ten men at the front alongside our aggravated captor, two blocking the exit to Kings Cross. He has us surrounded... No way out but through. If I'm going to save them, I'll have to reveal myself.

"You two stay here until my signal, once you see it, you both run for the exit."

"This curse will sooner take me before I'd let you at this barbarous man's mercy," she snarled, shaking my head I couldn't help but admire her determination. "I won't let them have you."

"I've taken down far worse than a few terrorists," I tried to assure but she wasn't having it clutching my forearms tightly.

"Must you always be the hero, there are people that need you alive, I need you alive, Ominis he," her voice cracked. "Don't do this Threa," I frowned at the brunette squeezing her hand sadly.

"You know I have to."

"You don't HAVE to do anything. We can come up with a better plan!"

"I know you're in there," the man's venomous voice echoed through the terminal as I sat staring at Anne. "The brave hero of Hogwarts now scared of a few thugs," he taunted tossing another girl to the side.

"Maybe we should start killing the ones that aren't her sir, force her out," a henchman on the other side of the crowd yelled out.

"Eh, I don't know boss, lots of pretty ones here... Can we keep some em," another asked as he stroked Imelda's face.

"Once I have that ancient magic user you can do what you like to the lot!"
"What'cha say lovely, want to be the thing that warms me bed at night," he grossly asked.

"Let go of me you pungent nob faced Grindylow," Imelda yelled, thrashing against the man's hold.

"Bring her here," the man up front snapped as she's thrown to the floor.

"What'cha think boss.... She's got that fire we heard bout," he laughed.

"I don't think we have time for another plan.... Everett, you wait for my signal than get Anne the hell out of here," he looked between me and the stormy brunette wincing as she turned on him.

"I don't know Threa."

"You will do as I say else you wish to end up like Duncan," the man's eyes went wider than his spectacles as he nodded quickly.

"Threa please," Anne held tighter to me despite being sick she had quite the grip.

"I'm sorry," I pulled from her running back the way I snuck back around the crates to get a better look at our captors.

"Think it's her?"

"I think I tire of this game," The man sighed. "Maybe I will start killing you all," The crowd began fighting harder against his men failing as many were immobilized further with the Incarcerous hex. "Reveal her to me and I will let you all go!" The crowd turned silent, no one daring to say a word making Imelda crudely laugh.

"Really thought that'd work," she teased making the man scowl. "She may be an idiot, but even that isn't going to coax her out." Don't do this Melda.

"You know her?"
"Maybe, hell I might be her for all you know... You're not going to get anywhere by yapping." The man turned chillingly quiet as the room seemed to freeze. "Lose your tongue?"

"You're not her," he said assuredly. "A plucky quim for sure, but not her.... No, no, my prize is still hiding in this dreadful bunch... You know," he called out to the crowd again as I tightened my hold on Ominis wand walking briskly towards the front turning as I came up to one of his men.

"Petrificus Totalus," I whispered as the man fell giving me a clear shot at the man, but if I hit him, I'd hit Melda.

"I thought more of you Troll Slayer. Or should I call you Dragon Rescuer, Goblin Vanquisher, Rebellion Ender! They've come to calling you The Dark Wizards Doom.... You made quite a few names for yourself last year. I had been hoping to not have to resort to such measures, though maybe this is the only way you'll listen.... Cruci" Gathering the ancient magic near me I sent a bolt of lightning down onto the exit to king's cross killing the two guards instantly. The terminal shook violently from the cast as the burly man swung back to look at me mystified.

"Leave her be," I yelled. A cheshire smile spread across his face as I drew a defensive stance. "You wanted me," I could hear my friends yelling fighting against the crowd. "You have me."

"That I do," he dropped his hold of Imelda. She slumped to the ground, meeting my gaze for a moment terrified. He took a step towards me, I refocused on him, leveling Ominis's wand fully ready to obliterate him if needed.

"You promised to let them go if I came forward.... I'm forward," he laughed.

"I did. And I am a man of my word.... Free them," he ordered as his men looked confused.

"Sir."

"Do as I say," his men reluctantly step back as the crowd runs for the exit. All except for my friends and family who foolishly stayed back.

"Garreth," I called out unwilling to move from my spot as the man stayed still before me. The red head ran up beside me wand drawn at the man. "Take Melda and go."

"Threa?"

"Do as I say," my voice feels dry as he stalls for a moment before moving in between me and the man lifting Imelda despite her protests leaving as ordered. "The rest of you should go too."

"Like hell we'd leave you with him," Poppy spat.

"Natsai, leave with the others," her mother pleaded.

"No, she didn't leave me with Harlow I'm not leaving her now!"

"Harlow," the man noted genuinely amused. "So, the rumors of you taking down Uncle Theo were true?"

"He got locked up like he deserved," I noted coarsely as he looked taken aback.

"He's still alive?"

"You sound surprised."

"Must say I am, you killed my father without a second thought."

"I killed quite a few dark wizards... You'll need to be more specific."

"Godric's heart," he laughed. "Of all the tales Father told about you, he neglected to mention such a quick wit."

"You think my wits quick you should cross my wand."

"Daring too.... I can see why he fell to you. If your power is as magnificent as the tales, you have grown into quite the formidable witch."

"Draw your wand and find out!'

"Heh, tempting... But no, no today is not the day we cross wands."

"All this terror was for us to what, talk?"

"Thought it'd be good to get acquainted."

"Quite the elaborate show for mere introductions," I spat as he moved in closer. Omnis's wand shot off a warning Confringo as I looked at it in surprise.

"Heh, spirited little thing," his tone was dangerously sweet. "Such a wonderous trait to find in a witch these days," Omnis's wand shot off dangerously again making the vile man laugh. My parents could be heard fighting harder to move towards me his henchmen sounding to be struggling as his eyes stayed focused on mine.

"Threa, run," mother spat sending a slice towards him his armor absorbing it, she grunted in pain as father called her name sending a chill through me. I took a small step towards their voices as the man took a step towards me, the wand sending another warning shot making him duck.

"Dear old mum and pop coming to save their little girl," he drawn out revealing an accent very similar to a bearded man in a top hat.... It couldn't be. Though it fits, I did kill him last year.

"You're Rookwood's son?"

"The resemblance give it away," bowing slightly. "Augustus Rookwood, it is a pleasure to finally meet you little dove," he said as I looked at him horrified in disbelief.

"You must agree that our interests are now aligned," Rookwood's words rang through my mind as I cringed trying to push them away shutting my eyes tightly as something wrapped around me holding my hand in a death grip.

Ominis's wand shot off sparks stinging the mans skin as he hissed squeezing my hand so tight the bones cracked and the wand slipped from my grip. It clinks to the ground before flying off behind us. I gasped, struggling against his hold as he laughed maniacally. A heart wrenching yell came from behind us and all hell broke loose.
