San grunted as he finished hammering a stake into the ground for the next house he was working on. It was almost done, but it was time for him to head back home to check on Yeosang. He handed his mallet over to one of the other workers and patted him on the back before heading out.

He hummed to himself as he pushed open the front door.

Yeosang was sitting in a rocking chair reading through one of the books Yunho had lent them. His face was scrunched up in thought, making San chuckle as he walked over and placed a kiss on his forehead. "Hi love."

"Hey. How was your day?" Yeosang asked, not turning away from the book.

San glanced at it and saw it was talking about the time leading up to the birth. He squeezed the older's shoulder and leaned over to read with him.

After a few minutes, Yeosang sighed and closed the book. "I am not looking forward to that part."

"It'll be worth it though." San said, kissing his cheek. "Come on, let's fix something for dinner and then we can go for a moonlight walk." He nibbled Yeosang's ear and back away from him.

Yeosang looked over his shoulder and smirked before getting out of the rocking chair. He walked up behind San and hugged him for a moment before going to gather baby-friendly food for himself.

San was just about to start fixing food for himself when there was a light knock on their door. "Come in!" he called.

Turning, he saw Yunho pop his head in and give a short smile. San felt a tinge of pity for him. He hadn't been the same since Mingi left. "Hey. I found a couple other books that I thought you guys might like to read."

"Oh! Thanks!" San said, hurrying over to take them. "Seonghwa and Hongjoong made this look so easy. We really appreciate the help."

"No problem. They were tucked in the back so I'm sorry I missed them." Yunho rubbed the back of his head and turned to leave.

"Are you doing ok?" San asked, gently touching his elbow to get him to stop.

The taller sighed and his shoulders fell. "I'll be ok, eventually. I'm just ready for this traveling to stop, you know? I don't think you and Yeosang realize how lucky you have it... Getting to see each other every day." His eyes started to glisten.

"I..." San reached for him but Yunho just waved him off.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to ruin the mood." He sniffed and rubbed his nose. "I'll be fine." He said one more time, then left, closing the door behind him.

"Mingi really need to think about things when he gets back. Hongjoong too." Yeosang said from behind San, causing him to jump a little. "I know I wouldn't be able to handle it if you left as often as they did."

"Me too. But it is what we decided on when we landed here." San bit his lip and glanced at the door one more time before returning to preparing his dinner.

When they had finished, San took Yeosang's hand and pulled him from the house. They stood on the beach for a long time watching the moon rise over the ocean and light everything up.

Ever since he had discovered his gift, Yeosang had spent a lot of time on the beach just standing in the water.

San knew it was because he was hoping his mom would come looking for him, but they didn't even know if she was still alive. But his lover held onto that hope, so San made a point to walk with him every night along the shoreline as they pretended they weren't out there hoping a mermaid would appear in front of them.

As the moonlight got brighter, San leaned forward and pointed to a creature on the beach. "Look Sangie! Isn't that a... Oh what was it?"

"A sea turtle?" Yeosang said, his eyes widening. "Wow."

They stood and watched the creature for a long time as it heaved its body onto the beach and started digging a hole in the sand. A few others came to join it, seemingly unbothered by the two men watching them.

Then there was a splash to their right and they turned in time to see something floating out in the water. Yeosang stepped forward as the moonlight illuminated something white...

San stayed close behind him, biting his lip as Yeosang walked further out to sea.

"Mom?" He whispered.

San glanced at him then back at the shape.

"Mom!" He started to walk faster.

"Yeosang, wait!" San rushed after him, reaching for his hand.

The shape moved, pulling away from them. Yeosang paused, reaching out one hand.

Whatever it was, it twisted and dove into the water and what looked like the tail of a dolphin flipped in the air before it vanished below the water.

Yeosang let out a strangled cry and fell back into San's waiting arms.

"Was it her?" He whispered, kissing the pink hair in front of him.

"I think so. It felt like it could be her. Why did she run away?" Yeosang whispered.

"I don't know. Let's get you home." San glanced back out at the water as he guided Yeosang home.

Part of him didn't believe what he had seen. The other part was upset that, if that was Yeosang's mom, that she had left like that. Yeosang deserved answers and he hoped they would get them one day.
