Eleven
The next ocean city they went to was a little bigger, and the surroundings looked familiar to Mingi as he walked around. He had met many people and had seen so many kind faces, the feeling in his gut not going away until he had seen something that snapped everything into place.
A book store. Not just any book store, the one where he first met Yunho.
He walks in and looks around, seeing many books before him and remembering seeing Yunho walking through these shelves, touching the spines and relishing in the feel of them. He had such a passion for these books now. Mingi grabs a couple he think the older would love, and to see if it will get him out of the hole he dug himself in, taking them to the counter to see an older man working there. He lays the books on the counter, "How much?"
"Ahhh," The old man says in surprise, taking them and looking them over, "These are old ones. Ones people don't even find interest in."
"How much," Mingi repeated himself, "My significant other would find interest in them."
The old man chuckles, "I'll take five gold sheckles."
Mingi reaches for his coins, only to be stopped by a hand. Hongjoong laid four more books on the counter and the old man raises his eyebrows. Hongjoong pulls out his coin bag, pulling out twelve gold sheckles and handing them to the man. The old man nods, smiling widely, "Enjoy the pages boys."
"Thank you," Mingi bows respectfully, takin his books and walking out with Hongjoong, "This is it," he whispers to the captain, "this is where Yunho is from."
"What? Are you sure?" Hongjoong frowns, looking around for familiar surroundings. It's changed a bit over the last year, he hardly recognized it.
"I recognize the book store," Mingi whispers, "There's only a few ocean cities with a book store, Yunho's city had a book store, that's where I first found him."
"We should ask if anyone knows his family," Hongjoong suggests, looking around.
Mingi looks around, deciding to head back into the book store and walking up to the old man. He frowns, "Can I help you?"
"Yes, I think you can," Mingi answers, leaning on the counter towards the old man, "Do you happen to know the Jeong family?"
"Aye," The man sighs sadly, shaking his head, "Such a fine lad Yunho was. He came in every day and his smile could wash away hurricanes and storms. Never a bad day with that boy..." the man sighs again, "We assumed he...."
Mingi swallows, guilt filling his stomach but he remembered his mission, "Do you know where I can find his family?"
"Why yes," The old man nods, pointing North, "they live just down the dock. Passed the fish salesman in a small houseboat. Why, do you know what happened to him? The boy had disappeared for two years now."
"I know exactly where he is," Mingi assures the old man, "He sent me to bring them to him."
The only man smiles, "Wonderful, send him my regards. Oh!" He reaches under the counter and pulls out a larger book, dusting it off and handing it Mingi, "Give this to him, tell him James wishes him the best."
Mingi smiles, nodding, "I will, thank you sir."
Mingi leaves the store with the book, stuffing it in his satchel and nodding down the north side of the dock, "At the end by the fish salesman in a houseboat."
Hongjoong leads the way and they walk down past all of these random shops. Many people call, trying to get customers and captains and crews to buy their products. Mingi and Hongjoong kept their minds focused on the small house boat coming into view next to a small fish stand. They pass by a boy at the fish stand, who was fishing right beside his stand while the mother they assumed cleaned and gutted the fish at the stand.
Mingi takes a deep breath as he stood in front of the door of the house, hesitant to knock and face the family of his lover. The family he took his lover from... the ones he misses.
"What are you waiting for? Just knock," Hongjoong hisses, looking around and trying to not cause wandering eyes to fall on them.
Mingi raises a hand, ready to knock but was surprised when the door flies open. His jaw drops and he looks down to be met with a curly, brown headed girl. She looks to be of the age of five, her eyes and shape of her face reminded Mingi of Yunho. She smiles, "Can we help you?" Her voice was tiny and cute like a small pixie.
Mingi clears his throat, "Is this the Jeong residence?"
"Who's asking?" A deeper voice cuts through and a taller man steps into view. He seemed to be young, maybe around the age of twenty-six. He had a beard and mustache growing on his face, and was fit with broad shoulders and bulky arms. He was definitely tall, maybe even taller than Mingi.
Mingi clears his throat, "I... I came looking for you... to bring you to Yunho."
"Yunho?!" A woman's voice cries deep into the house, "Juno!! Let him in!!"
The man narrows his eyes, letting Mingi in and points to Hongjoong, "Your friend stays outside."
Mingi looks to Hongjoong and the captain nods, "I'll go finish shopping."
Mingi nods, being pulled into the house by the little girl and the man he can assume is Juno grabs her arm, "Let him go River."
"Awww but I wants to lead him to the table!!" River, the little girl, whines.
"Go," The man spoke lowly, pointing to the other room and she huffs before walking to where he was pointing. The man closes the door and Mingi is met with a woman at a table, her long wavy hair was a dark brown like Yunho's with some streaks of grey running through it, and her eyes lit up when she saw Mingi. Right beside her, another girl who had dark wavy hair like her mother, looked to be twenty-three to Mingi. Her eyes watched him like a hawk ready to lunge at it's prey.
Juno seemed to be the only man in the household and he stood at the door with his arms crossed. The older woman stands, walking towards Mingi. Now that she stood, she's shorter than Juno and Mingi as her soft brown eyes look Mingi over, "You know... my son?"
"Yunho, yes," Mingi replies, "I..... he's safe-"
"Where?" The woman asks, excitement growing in her eyes.
Mingi swallows, "You won't believe me if I told you, I think you better sit down when I do."
She chuckles, "Dear child, my son was missing for two years with no warning. I was told to presume he was dead, but i knew in my heart he was a fighter and was still alive. Hearing you utter that you're here to fulfill his request, makes me want to know where he is. If he's safe. If he's eating-"
"Mother," the younger woman calls from the table, holding a hand out, "Come sit. I'm sure this man will tell you his story. Please," the woman gestures to the table for Mingi, "Sit down and tell us where our beloved Yunho is."
"Quinn, get him some bread and chicken broth," the woman nods to the fire, a pot of the broth was still warm, "Our guest may be hungry."
The young lady nods, standing to push Mingi in a chair. The pirate makes a noise of surprise, noticing Quinn's hand brushing from his shoulder down his back before she goes to grab him food. Yunho's mother takes his hand in hers, and he feels sick. If she were to find out Mingi took Yunho two years ago instead of someone else....
"Now, tell me," she smiles softly, "Why did my son send his lover to come get me and not himself?"
Mingi looks up at her in surprise, "How did-"
"I can't read books, but I am pretty good at reading people," she chuckles, "Your eyes lit up when you mentioned Yunho. You're here to bring us to him... why?"
Mingi takes a deep breath in, and releases it before looking at her friendly, soft face, "It... It was me. I took Yunho from you guys."
"What?" Juno behind him growls, grabbing Mingi by his collar and slamming him against the wall behind him. Yunho's mother and Quinn both scream, rushing to Mingi's aid to remove the man's hands on the pirate, "You took him!?"
"Juno stop!!" Their mother screams, smacking his arms and back to get Juno off of Mingi, "Let him explain!!"
"He doesn't deserve the right to explain!!" Juno shouts back, slamming Mingi's head in the wall and Mingi winces at the sudden pain.
"Let him go!!" A deep voice calls from behind them all and heads snap back to look at another tall man, who looks like Juno with salt and pepper hair. His face was stern, not having a playful or soft touch to his eyes as he stares everyone down. He walks forward to look Mingi in the eyes, his eyes were a light grey which surprised Mingi, "Explain."
Mingi swallows, "Two years ago, me and two of my crew mates boarded this ocean city to gather supplies. I happen to pass by the bookstore where Yunho was at... he was so gorgeous and he was singing softly. His face was just so happy and it made me feel warm and fuzzy inside, something I have never felt before. I loved his singing voice so much that.... I had to have it for myself.... as well as him...."
The man was quiet as he studied Mingi, not saying anything as he looks at Juno, "Release him."
Juno jerks Mingi against the wall, walking to the man who Mingi can only assume is their father, and the man walks to take Juno's place. He tilts his chin up, "Where is Yunho now?"
"In Utopia, with the rest of our family," Mingi doesn't hesitate to say, and their mother gasps.
"You mean..."
"No, we don't have children," Mingi assures her, "We're hoping to have children, but we don't have any yet."
She smiles, looking at Yunho's father, "Thatcher..."
The man, Thatcher, looks to her and then back to Mingi, "So what is your reason for being here...?"
"Mingi," Mingi replies to him, "I came to bring you all to him. We landed there a year ago and I've been searching all over the world for you all. He misses you, and wants you to be there where it's safe from disease and never have to worry about not having meals."
"So it is real," The mother whispers, looking at Yunho's father.
Thatcher looks to his wife then the two kids present in the room before looking back to Mingi, "Okay."
"Okay?" Juno scoffs, "Just like that we're going with a man who took your son for his own personal toy-"
"You watch your mouth," Mingi snarls, "Yunho is more to me than that."
"Then why the fuck did you take him!?" Juno snarls back, only to be pushed away by Thatcher.
"That is enough!!" Thatcher roars, looking at the mother, "Teresa, take the girls and pack one small bag for them. Pack your bag too and mine," he looks at Juno and sneers, "We're going to have Yunho back in our arms, and you want to act like a damn fool and piss off the pirate? The one who will take us to him? Don't you miss your brother?"
"Of course I miss him!" Juno cries out.
"Then stop causing trouble and go pack a bag," Thatcher looks at Mingi and nods once, "We leave when he says we leave."
