03 • Hotdog Pillow

The sun was just starting to set on the horizon, painting the darkening sky in rose and lilac hues, when Lisa woke up from her short nap. She was disoriented for a second before everything that happened in the past couple of hours dawned on her.

The girl was still having a difficult time believing her reality. Saying that she was heartbroken was an understatement.

Just yesterday, she was having a chill afternoon with Chaeyoung. And now, she was in God-knows-where with global superstar, Jeon Jungkook. It all felt like a nightmare. It all still felt like a dream.

Speaking of the global superstar...

Lisa went out of the bedroom to find the bungalow empty. It was Jungkook who told her to get some rest hours ago and now, he was nowhere to be seen.

It was already atrocious that the two of them were brought to an isolated island by a delusional fan, but to be left alone in the middle of nowhere was unimaginable.

The girl decided to go out of the beach house to look for him, her watery eyes making it hard for her to see where she was going. She was seconds away from another hysteric episode.

As if the good heavens heard her prayers, she finally caught a glimpse of the boy. Jungkook was walking towards the house, his focus still on the guide book in his hands.

He stopped in his tracks upon noticing her presence by the door. "Rested well?"

"Don't do that." As much as she did not want to cry again, her eyes hurt so much as it is, she could not stop it when the tears started streaming down her face. "Please, don't ever do that again."

His eyes widened with surprise, "don't do what exactly?"

"Leaving me like that," she wiped the tears away, "I was so afraid that you left me all alone here."

Jungkook looked at her with pity. "It's okay, Lisa. I just went for a walk to scout the place."

Suddenly feeling embarrassed for her overreaction — something she tends to do — she continued under her breath, "sorry. I'm just really scared right now."

"I understand. No need to apologize," Jungkook mumbled as they went back inside the house, "you must be hungry. I'll heat up the leftover food."

Although she had zero appetite, Lisa knew she had to at least eat something to keep herself sane. She nodded in response. Taking a seat at the dining table, Lisa quietly observed the boy in front of her as he got plates and pans from the cupboard.

Jeon Jungkook.

What did she really know about this idol?

He was Bangtan's youngest member.

He was a fellow '97 liner, too.

He can sing, dance, and rap.

He was a promising photographer, videographer, and editor. The girl had watched a few of his Golden Closet Film videos on Youtube.

He was also a close friend of her childhood friend, BamBam.

He had millions of fans around the world.

And now, he was heating up the food for their early dinner.

"What was the last thing you remember before waking up here this morning?" The question pulled the girl out of her reverie.

"I, uh," she frowned, "I was back home in Seoul. We just got back from Japan after playing a festival. We didn't have any schedule so Chaeng and I went for a little shopping. I honestly don't remember anything after that. What about you?"

Finishing up with the task at hand, it took him a second longer to reply. "I went out for a couple of drinks with some friends." He paused to set up the food on the dining table. "I went home early though because I was feeling a bit sick. I think I fell asleep in the taxi on my way back to the dorm. Well, at least, that's what I remember."

"Wow, the kidnapper really waited until you guys are in hiatus before pulling this scheme." It will be a few weeks too, maybe months, before BLACKPINK's next big stage. Ergo, now was truly the perfect time to do such a crime.

"It did say in the letter that our kidnapping was being planned for a year," he took a bite of a chicken wing, "how crazy."

"Totally," she agreed. Now that she learned about his last memory before being brought here, the more she was finally understanding just what they were dealing with here. The execution of their kidnapping was too thorough, too remarkable, too brilliant. They must have had some help. "Do you think someone in our companies helped our kidnapper in, you know, kidnapping us?"

With just one look at him and she knew that they had both reached a similar conclusion.

He shrugged, "I guess, yeah. I mean, they won't be able to do this if they didn't have moles inside YG and BigHit, right?"

They fell into heavy silence again after that. Both were too caught up in their own thoughts to even continue the conversation. Both were too caught up in the possibility that someone they had trusted had a hand in their kidnapping plot.

The two stared at the king size bed with furrowed brows. The bed, with its white silk sheets and pumpkin-colored pillows, was clearly big enough for the both of them.

But, there was a small problem. Lisa had never shared a bed with a stranger before and the mere thought of it was making her anxious as hell. Heck, her armpits were already starting to sweat due to her nervousness.

"I'll just sleep on the floor," Jungkook finally uttered, breaking the tensed atmosphere.

"Are you sure?"

"Yeah, you take the bed." He took a blanket and a pillow from the bed, and made himself comfortable on the floor.

The girl remained standing on her spot. She should feel relieved and thankful that Jungkook was being a gentleman any girl would be fortunate to have as a roommate. But, she didn't.

In fact, seeing Jungkook lying on the cold, hard floor was making her feel a tad guilty.

Can her conscience really take seeing him sleep on the floor for a whole month when there was enough room for the both of them on the bed?

Lisa scowled at her train of thought.

Almost a full five minutes passed before Lisa arrived at an important decision. She hoped she will never come to regret it.

"Jungkook," she uttered, "let's just both sleep on the bed."

The boy sat up and threw her own question back at her. "Are you sure?"

"Yes," the girl nodded.

"Are you really sure? I don't want to cross any of your personal boundaries." His thoughtfulness warmed her heart.

"Well, we can put this colossal pillow between us so essentially, we still have our own spaces." She positioned the bolster at the center of the bed. "Come on, Jungkook. I insist."

"Thank you," he mumbled shyly. Afterward, the light bulb was turned off, bathing the room in semi-darkness. "Good night, Lisa."

The light coming from the moon was bright enough for Lisa to see her surroundings. She liked it. In truth, she was the type of person who can never sleep in total darkness. "Sweet dreams, Jungkook."

After a while, soft snores can be heard coming from the boy. Weirdly, the sound brought her comfort. It was a reminder that she was not alone in this bad situation, that she just gained a new friend in the past twenty-four hours.

Lisa faced his side of the bed. Just by looking at his sleeping silhouette, she understood — oh how she understood — why thousands of people around the world were head over heels for Jeon Jungkook.
