Chapter two- A Sudden Change
(A/N I just re-read this and realized I wrote 'Animagus' later on... multiple times... I had the wrong name in my head. I am aware an Animagus is something you make yourself into, But I'm not going to re-do this so not hate I'm not an idiot I'm making it correct further on in the book. Blame McGonagall, SHE used the wrong word. And no, I'm not telling you the correct word, read it later)
I lay in my bed in the orphanage, the strange letter sat on my bed-side table. I was not sure if it was a prank or not, I had read it over and over. at the bottom was a pretty convincing list of supplies needed for the school;

It seemed way to official to be a prank. But at the same time, Wizards? Magic? There was no possible way this was actually legit. A moment later after reading the letter over again, I heard a knock on the door.
The orphanage owner came in, and an old looking woman in a pointy hat and small circular glasses walked in.
"Need something?" I asked them, trying to fight the urge to ignore them completely. This looked important.
"I believe you received a letter," The old lady said in a croaky voice.
"Yes I did," I said.
"Ah, yes. This may be all very confusing to you. I'm Professor Minerva McGonagall. I am a professor at Hogwarts School for Witchcraft and Wizardry. I would normally hand you the letter personally, but my ride here was delayed so I sent my owl ahead," The old woman explained.
I stared at the letter. So it was not prank... yet.
"I am here to explain to you the wizarding world and help you on your way to Diagon Alley, where you can purchase all of your required school supplies. You see, You are quite the strange kid. Your magic seemed to come at a later stage in your life, usually it happens around the age of eleven... but for you it was at the age of fifteen," The professor said.
"Although it is a bit late, we still want you to come to our school. We believe with your intelligence you will be able to catch up to all the students your age quickly," The professor explained.
"Intelligence? I've never seen any of that in this boy," The orphanage owner said.
"We are making a special exception with you as well. It'll be a bit like a scholarship. We have evidence that you might be a very strong powerful wizard, and a possible Animagus," The professor said, ignoring the orphanage owner.
"Wait, so a free school?" I asked.
"Well, Hogwarts is a special school. What we call 'scholarships' is when we purchase all of your required equipment for you, so that you come to out school and none of the other schools. We need a strong, muggle-born wizard that will be able to make a mark on this world. And we would be honored to teach you," The professor said.
"What evidence do you have that I might be a good wizard? and an Animagus thing?" I asked.
"Ah, well, have you ever wondered how you build that hideout of yours so easily? others would have taken way more time. Or how you could see your hideout all the way from your window in the first place?" The professor said.
I thought about it for a moment. Was it not normal to be able to see that far away? and building it was easy... You literally just bring the leaves up the tree.
"For your hideout, as an example, you had to haul the leaves up the tree. How did you know to use those specific leaves? And did you ever wonder why the nest never fell? Because your magic protected it. Your magic held the entire tree up or it would have fallen months ago in a thunder storm. You where in this room when the storm struck, and you still protected it all the way from over here. You had an animals instinct to know what leaves to use... you are special. Not to add to the fact that you where able to do all this without a wand," The professor said.
I shuddered at the memory of the thunder storm. Had my tree really almost fallen that day? Did I actually do that? Wait, how does she even know about my hideout? I stared at the old lady. She wants me to come with her, for a scholarship, to a wizarding school...
Now THAT sounds like a nice life.
*~*
The Professor handed me a bag of strange wizard money and we walked through the streets of Diagon Alley together. She pointed out things and explained lots of wizard stuff and magic. Like moving pictures, broomsticks, wands.
I still could not get over the fact that we got all the way from Nevis to Britain by touching an old rusty spoon that was on the beach. I still felt a bit dizzy from it. The Professor had gotten me my uniform, my books and she bought me an owl. Man, Hogwarts scholarships where nice.
I was headed over for my wand now. She led me over to a shop labeled 'Ollivanders' and we walked inside. The professor nodded to an old man at a desk, then walked out of the door. The books that where floating next to me landed neatly on a table, The professor had made them fly for me.
I set my tawny owl and its cage on top of the book pile, and walked over towards the desk.
"Hello there. You see quite a bit old for a new student," The old man commented.
"I guess I'm a transfer student," I shrugged.
The man walked towards the back of his large shop. there where huge book shelves full of little boxes filling up the space. He walked through the tight isles and pulled out three boxes. Then he went back up to me. He opened a box and carefully put a long black stick in my hand. It was plain and black, no designs, nothing fancy.
"Flick it," He said.
I hesitantly flicked the wand in an upward motion. I jumped as a couple papers went flying around the room, messing up the old mans desk.
"No, not that one," The man said, and grabbed the wand.
He put the black wand away and opened the next box. He handed me the wand. It looked like a tree branch, it was a kind of poorly made wand with a single leaf carved into the handle area. It looked like someone must have been insanely lazy, they just cut it off of a tree and carving some random shape into it.
I flicked the wand. Nothing happened. Then a moment later the papers that had blown off the desk earlier flew slowly and gracefully back onto the desk and stacked up neatly on top of each other.
"Ah, perfect," the old man said.
"Wait so, this is mine now?" I asked, confused.
"Yes, yes. The wand chooses the wizard," The old man said.
I turned around slowly and awkwardly, and walked over towards my books. A moment later The Professor came back in the shop, she was wheeling a cart in front of her.
"This is for you, now remember what I told you about getting onto the train, I have to be off now, best of luck," The Professor said, and she walked out the door quickly.
I walked over towards the cart and loaded my books onto it. I did not have a suitcase full of stuff, sense I never really had stuff, so the cart was light and easy to push around. I set my owl on top of the books, and walked out of the shop. Once I was outside, I put my wand in my pocket, and I took my Hogwarts letter out.
1 Wand
1 Cauldron (pewter, standard size 2)
1 set glass or crystal phials
1 telescope
1 set brass scales
the letter said. I crossed off the part that said wand, then I set off pushing my cart down the pathway towards a shop with a huge picture of a cauldron brewing outside.
This was going to be quite the interesting experience.
