Chapter nine- Quidditch tryouts

(A/N Guys, Quidditch is a real sport. I might decide to be active for once just to play Quidditch)

"You'll be fine," John said, patting my head. "And stop your hair from turning pink, we're in public."

I was getting ready for Quidditch tryouts. John was already finished with his tryouts, now was the time for Ravenclaws to try for their team. We still had no news on my hair, John kept saying he would either ask Eliza to look it up in the library or he would himself, but he always ended up forgetting or being to busy on bodyguard duty.

I told my hair to go back to brown mentally, and it listened. I had discovered last night that I could easily control the color of my hair. Although, I really wish I had a better power then just hair changing. It was still something special though, so I didn't mind.

"I'll watch from the bleachers," John said, and walked away from me.

"No using spells to keep me from falling!" I shouted over my shoulder at him.

"NO PROMISES, HAMMY!" John shouted back, and then he walked out of view.

I took a deep breath, and then walked out onto the Quidditch field. It was a large open area, with huge stadiums high above the ground. There where six hoops, three on either side of the field, high up in the sky. John had explained the rules to me earlier.

I was on my own broomstick. Apparently Angelica and Peggy had been just walking down the hallways with Lafayette when they 'found' the broom lying around. It was pretty nice, definitely not the most expensive thing, but it also was not the worst possible.

"Hamilton, here to try out?" Madam Hooch asked as I walked towards the group of Ravenclaws gathered around her.

"Yes," I said.

"Right, what position are you going for?" She asked me as I joined the others.

"Just a chaser," I said, choosing the basic role of passing the ball and trying to get it through the opposing teams goal posts.

"Alright," Madam Hooch said, writing down something on a clipboard.

She began to explain basics of Quidditch, of course I already knew them due to John's instructions.

"And finally, this is the snitch..." Madam Hooch said, taking a golden ball out of the box full of all the other balls she had already explained what they do too us.

After a bit more explaining, we finally started tryouts. I flew around the field, using the skills John had taught me. Suddenly I saw a ball flying at me, but some Ravenclaw sped up in front of me and hit the ball away from me with a large bat.

"I got your back, those Bludgers aren't getting anywhere near you," The Ravenclaw said, and I realized it was Chris.

"Thanks," I said, knowing Bludgers where dangerous, and if they hit someone they could easily break bones.

Suddenly another ball came flying at me, but this ball was much bigger. It was the Quaffle, the ball that was passed around and was meant to be tossed into the opposing teams hoops. I caught the ball as it flew at me, and then leaned forward to head towards a goal post. I hear loud cheering and looked over to see John clapping.

I rolled my eyes at him. So what, his extra training had paid off and I learned to catch a ball. I flew over towards the goal post, dodging some Ravenclaws who where trying to stop me. Madam Hooch arranged us Ravenclaws into two groups, we where to play against each other to test our skills. In the end, only seven people made it onto the team. Three chasers, one seeker, two beaters, and a keeper.

I flew under a Ravenclaw trying to stop me, but the Ravenclaw quickly spun around and gave chase too me. There where many talented players here, but I had a chance for becoming a chaser, due to last years chaser graduating from Hogwarts. There was an obvious open spot, and I was determined to snatch it away from anyone who wanted it.

Although, with the thirteen people trying out this year, it was unlikely I would actually get it. But John convinced me to try, he was way too good a convincing. The Ravenclaw who was chasing me flipped over on their broomstick, and where now upside down above me, reaching down for the ball.

I speed up to as fast as my broom to go. Now I was only about ten feet away from the goal posts. I had an idea to loose the guy above me- and maybe be able to toss the ball into the hoop without the keeper guarding it blocking my shot. Although, it was a bit risky.

I was going to take my chances.

I zoomed towards the goal posts, not slowing down like everyone else to throw the ball inside. I bent my head down, trying to be as small as I could, wrapped around the ball. Then I flew through the biggest hoop. While I went through, I tossed the ball, so it would count as a goal.

I made my way through the hoop and then sat upright again, and stopped to hover. I saw John clapping, and Madam Hooch wrote something down. I guess being small wasn't too bad after all.

After the tryouts, I gathered with the rest of the Ravenclaws around Madam Hooch as she decided who would get onto the team.

"Christopher and Steven will be beaters, again," Madam Hooch was saying, I hadn't even realized Steven was here too. They would definitely be a perfect team, considering how close they where, and how surprisingly violent.

"Chasers are Clementine and Samuel, like last year, and the newest member of the team will be Alexander," Madam Hooch said, nodding to me.

"WOOO!" John shouted form the stadiums.

Now we where both on the Quidditch teams. John was a beater, and I was also against Hercules, the well known keeper. I smiled up at him, and watched him sprint across the bleachers towards some stairs that would go down towards the field.

A couple other Ravenclaws congratulated me, giving me high fives and welcoming me. I really felt accepted. Then I felt something wrap around me and turned to see John hugging me.

"You win the award for most supportive and overly enthusiastic bodyguard," I laughed.

"Cant wait to crush you in our first match together!" John said, letting go of me. "And yes, I can actually do real crushing. I am a beater."

"Yes, I know that," I rolled my eyes.

"Party in the Ravenclaw dorm for the new little member, eh?" A Ravenclaw said, coming up to me.

"Sure," I said.

"Hammy, make good choices, I cant be there to supervise you, no Sam Adams," John said sternly.

"Okay, mom," I said as the Ravenclaw walked away.

"Remember to wash your hands and take a shower, no wearing crop tops 'till your sixteen," John said in a high pitched voice.

"Not washing my hands, never taking a shower, and shut it you dork, already have," I said.

"Now I wanna see you with a crop top on," John laughed.

"Go do evil Hufflepuff things," I said, and walked away.

I ignored whatever else he said, and followed the other Ravenclaws up to our dormitory. Maybe a party wouldn't be so bad, I could possibly make another friend, and get better known with my fellow Ravenclaws.

Nothing could go super bad, right?

*~*

So now I was sitting on a couch, holding a cup of something alcoholic someone just randomly gave me. Ravenclaws where definitely... good at partying. They even decorated the place using magic, and there where these weird shiny animals chasing each other around. I learned they where patronus's, I really wished I had one. I was going to ask John to teach me later.

"Welcome to your first Ravenclaw party," Chris said, sitting next to me.

"I've never been to a party before. What am I supposed to do?" I asked him.

"You talk, and get drunk," Chris replied.

"I don't really like either of those ideas," I said.

"You should probably head up to your dorm then, before it gets really bad," Chris advised, then went off towards the punch.

I sighed and stood up, making my way towards the spiral staircase.

"Yo," Someone said.

I turned around slowly towards the voice, and saw it was Eliza.

"Please tell me you haven't been smoking drugs," I said.

"Nope! Drinking them," Eliza said.

I glared at her. She was such a responsible person. I guess every once in a while she wanted to go insane.

"Well, don't stay up too late, no making out with strangers," I said, and continued up the stairs.

"Got it," Eliza said, before she started laughing uncontrollably at a bowl of fruit.

I walked into the boys dorms, hoping there where not any drunk people in here. I wish I could be with John right now, but with us being in different houses and curfew around the corner, that was not possible. I plopped down on my bed, and opened up a book.

I took a glance out one of the huge windows, and noticed a couple leaves falling from the trees. I had never experienced autumn, but it certainly already looked pretty. Some trees had some brightly colored red and orange leaves on them. I stared back at my book and began to read about patronus's, hopefully I'd be able to have one by the next two days or so.

I eventually fell asleep to reading the book, and the noises of some pretty drunk Ravenclaws.
