Chapter five- First Day

I woke up the next morning and yawned. My long hair fell in front of my face and I pushed it behind my ears. I sat up in my bed and looked around. Everyone else was already awake, most of them where reading a book. Although in the corner of the room three boys sat huddled close together, they where in deep conversation. Curious, I walked over to them.

"But if we approach him like that he'll will be sure to recognize us!" One boy said.

"What if we get Peeves to do it?" A second boy suggested.

"We need someone who can accomplish it, but nobody would recognize. They need to be able to hide in with the crowd. He knows who all three of us are, he would immediately suspect us," The third boy said.

"What about him?" The second boy asked, pointing at me.

"Oh, that would be perfect! Nobody would suspect him, after all, the cinnamonrolls are never the ones who do the bad things," The third person agreed.

I took a deep breath. Time to make some friends and be social, not really my specialty. But might as well try.

"Wait what? I'm not a cinnamonroll," I complained.

"You fell asleep reading a book, you have long hair that would look great with a flower in it, and your small," The first boy pointed out.

"That's unfair! I have committed many crimes," I protested.

The boys exchanged a look.

"Is that really a good thing?" The first boy asked.

"Hes perfect!!! so, you in?" The second boy said at the same time at the first one.

"In on what?" asked, and sat down with them.

*~*

I walked calmly down one of the moving staircases. Then I spotted my target. The three boys from earlier had joined up with a girl, Eliza, and where ready to set the plan in action.

Apparently Eliza had been getting bullied by a certain Aaron Burr. I had never met this guy, but I heard from half of Ravenclaw that he was friends with Thomas, Benedict, Maria and Charles. Those were well known names, the main bullies of the school. Although, most believed Maria was actually kind on the inside and just hung out with the wrong people. I thought that the 'Bullies' where not that bad, they seemed nice to me on the train.

But Aaron was about to get served a plate full of hot revenge.

I walked past him slowly, and then tripped him. Then I blended in with the crowd. I watched as he fell down the moving staircase. He finally stopped moving. I walked right past his body, then hid behind some people for the next move.

My new kind-of-friends had taught me a couple spells, they said I was a natural at them already. They taught me two defensive ones, and three offensive. Aaron stood up, his face contorted in rage. He took out his wand. In the moment, I struck.

"Expelliarmus," I whispered, and flicked my wand at his hand.

I quickly hid my wand in my pocket again, and watched his wand fly out of his hand and down onto a staircase further bellow. He sprinted down the staircase, down another, and then another until he reached his wand. I peered over the edge. He picked up his wand. The end was snapped off, he would have to get a new one.

I looked up to see Eliza jumping up and down in glee, her friends doing the same. I walked back up to them and Eliza hugged me.

"Thank you so much! You where great, I wish we could do more but I don't want to risk your reputation here," Eliza said.

"It was no big deal, its always fun to cause harm to those who are evil," shrugged as she stopped hugging me.

"Man, I cant wait to see what your Patronus is! I bet its a dragon," One of the boys said.

I didn't question it. The boys and Eliza walked off, talking happily. I realized I should probably be getting to class. I was going to go ask Eliza for help, but she had already disappeared around the corner. I spotted the curly-haired boy from earlier and walked up to him.

"Hey, can you help me?" I asked.

"Sure," he said kindly.

"Can you show me where Potions class is?" I asked.

"Oh, yeah I was just going there now," He smiled.

I followed him down a staircase, and then down a couple more. We walked down a dark, cold hallway in the dungeons, and then we took a left into a room. Inside was a couple desks, a book shelf, and other things I honestly had no idea what they where.

"I'm John Laurens, by the way," The curly haired Hufflepuff said, taking my hand in his.

"Alexander Hamilton," I said, shaking his hand.

"You're quite the buzz around here," John said, letting go of my hand.

"Why?" I asked.

"Well, you're the only transfer student ever recorded in history here. Or that I know of anyway. And there's talk of you being super smart, a thief, and an Animagus. Someone even said your patronus was the most powerful ever, and it was a dragon!" John said.

"That's all nonsense," I laughed. I actually laughed, that never happened.

"I know what you did to Aaron Burr," John whispered. "Quite the mark you made on your first day of classes."

"Sit down," I heard an angry voice say.

I looked over to see a professor with pale skin and jet black hair. He had an angry voice, so I went to sit down before I got thrown into a cauldron.

"Your new," He snorted at me.

"That is a true fact," I said hesitantly.

"Don't speak back to me," The professor said.

"Yes sir," I replied politely, trying not to look scared in any way.

"My name is Professor Snape," He introduced himself, then walked over to the front of the class with his black cape blowing dramatically behind him. "I am the potions teacher here at Hogwarts. You will respect the rules, and listen to me."

I nodded.

"Today we will be learning how to identify if something you are about to drink has poison in it," He started. "Who would like to volunteer?"

Someone burst into the class a second later. It was Thomas and Maria.

"Late again, detention," Snape practically hissed.

The two students walked over towards a desk and sat down. I saw John smirk.

"You," Snape said, pointing at me. "You volunteer."

"I do?" I asked in confusion.

"Drink one of these," He said, and pulled out three little cups. All of them where filled with clear liquid.

It took me a moment to process the fact that my teacher just put poison in front of me, the new student, and told me to drink it. I hesitantly stared at the cups.

There was clear liquid in the three cups. They all looked identical, but I knew there was something wrong with at least one of them. I sniffed one of the cups. It certainly didn't smell like water. I sniffed the other two and found one that smelled like normal water, and drank the entire cup.

Snape glared at me suspiciously, waiting for some kind of terrible poison to take effect on me. I glared defiantly into his eyes.

"Lucky guess," he said, and spun around.

"Bro how'd you do that?" John asked in a hushed voice.

"One of them smelled normal," I shrugged.

"I've had the same test like that before, and they all smelled the same to me," John said.

Then I remembered what Professor McGonagall had said; that I have some strange animal instincts and it would be an obvious quality of a future Animagus. I highly doubt any of that is true. I was just told by a fellow Ravenclaw that being a Animagus is something you have to work for, not something you're born with.

I shook the idiotic thought out of my head. I didn't even know exactly what an Animagus is, and I honestly could not care less.

Professor Snape went on talking about potions. He told us the different qualities in which a poisoned drink has, and what spell to use to discover the poison. He also told us may tactics on poisoned vs non poisoned water. Smell was none of those tactics.

Snape dismissed the class later, and I stood up to leave. I looked down at my schedule. Transfiguration, fun. I thought, and headed outside.

"Need anymore help getting places?" John asked.

"No, I think I got it," I said, not wanting to bother him anymore.

"Oh, okay. Nice hanging out with you, Ravenclaw!" John said, he sounded a bit disappointed that I did not need him anymore.

He walked away, and I walked in the opposite direction. I had looked at a map earlier today, and Transfiguration was one of the only things that stuck in my brain. I followed my mental map out of the dungeons and on a long walk, until I finally reached the classroom for transfiguration.

I noticed Thomas and Aaron there. They saw me too, and waved for me to come over. I hesitantly looked around, There was nobody else I knew in this class. I walked over to the boys, one was a Gryffindor and one was a Slytherin. I sat down in the desk next to them quietly, not wanting to draw to much attention to myself.

I really hope I was choosing the right people to hang out with.
