Chapter eleven- Man, John is really attractiv- I MEAN hes a great friend

I watched Alexander get hit in the side with a bludger. He screamed. I gasped, forgetting the game, and flew as fast as I could for him. His body crashed into the ground. I flew down and jumped off my broomstick when it was five feet above the ground. I rolled to soften my landing, and then ran over to Alex as my broom continued to fly.

"Alex!" I bent down over him.

"Clear the way!" Someone shouted.

The game temporarily paused, the teams flew and landed on the ground. The Ravenclaws raced to their team mate.

"Hammy," Chris gasped.

Madam Pomfrey rushed over and sat next to Alex. She took out her wand, and started to mutter a complicated healing spell.

"Will he be okay?" I asked.

"He was struck right between the ribs, its unpredictable," Madam Pomfrey said. "We need to take him to the hospital wing."

Hagrid came over and picked up Alexander easily, as if he where as light as a feather. He began to walk away with Madam Pomfrey, and I followed them anxiously.

*~*

I was sitting in a chair beside Alex, he had been in the bed for three days now. Madam Pomfrey said she did all she could, but with him unconscious she couldn't make him drink and swallow the medicine he needed. If he would wake up, she could almost instantly heal him.

"John,  come on, you haven't left this room today. You stayed up all night, and didn't eat, and missed all your classes," Lafayette said.

"I know," I said.

"If I brought you food would you eat it?" Lafayette asked.

"Sure," I muttered, resting my head on Alex's bed.

I stared at Alex's body. His breathing was shallow, and when he had been hit his hair had suddenly turned white. Nobody had questioned his hair, but I was worried it meant something. Did the colors have meaning? Was his hair loosing color because he was dying? I don't know why I cared so much for him. I guess he was just so perfect.

Suddenly I saw his hair start changing colors, and hope flickered inside me. I sat up and moved my chair as close as I could to the bed. His hair was changing back to brown. Then I saw his eyes flicker open.

"Your alive!" I said, and hugged him.

"Ow," He complained.

"Sorry," I said, letting go of him.

"Where you here this whole time?" He asked, his voice scratchy, and on some words he whispered.

"Maybe," I said, smiling at him.

"Best bodyguard," Alex said, laughing, but it ended up in a fit of coughing. "Oh yeah, I have a message for you."

"What?" I asked, confused.

"Satan says he cant wait to meet you," Alex said.

"Great," I laughed.

"We sat down and had tea, I began to think hes not the most nice person," Alex said, coughing a bit.

"I'll go tell Madam Pomfrey you're okay," I said, standing up. "Don't die while I'm gone."

I walked away, rushing quickly through the rows of beds. I caught a glimpse of Thomas laying on a bed, but ignored him. I ran over towards the small office Madam Pomfrey was sitting in, and opened the door.

"Alex is awake," I said.

She stood up and we walked over towards him with me. We rushed back through the rows of beds.

"I didn't die," Alex joked.

"Kind of hard to believe, honestly," Madam Pomfrey said, opening a thing of medicine. "Drink this."

Alexander drank whatever it was, and coughed multiple times. Madam Pomfrey took out her wand and began to mutter a spell. She aimed her wand at Alex, and then flicked her wand. Alex gasped, then coughed a bit, then he sat up in his bed.

"I don't hurt anymore," Alex said, his voice sounded less scratchy.

"That means its working. You'll stay in here for another hour, then check in each day until I say you're fine," Madam Pomfrey said. "If its as bad as I think, you may need crutches. Usually my magic can heal it, but its a bit complicated."

"Thank you," I said to her, and she walked back towards her office.

I looked over at Alex, he smiled at me. I couldn't help but blush, he was so adorable. Little does he know I'm only his self-appointed bodyguard because I wanted to be with him at all times. I definitely had some feelings towards him.

"Glad you're alive," I said, and hugged him again. "I also saw that trick you did on my team mate, with your hair. Not cool, Ham Man."

"Hah," Alex laughed.

"So, I looked up what I said I'd look up in the library weeks ago," I said.

"Really?" Alex asked, interested.

"So I think you're a Metamorphmagus," I said.

"A Metamorphm- what now?" Alex asked.

"Ever head of that one wizard who graduated a couple years ago? Nymphadora Tonks? She was a well known Metamorphmagus. She could change her appearance, her hair, her face, she could give herself a pig snout. She got in all kinds of trouble for making herself look like other people and sneaking in places. I think its the only explanation for your powers," I said.

"And it could explain why they went all the way to the Caribbean to pick you up, because Metamorphmagi are very very rare, and they wanted you in the school. Maybe they want you to become a teacher and be super cool," I said.

"Wow, cool," Alex said.

"The strange thing is, Metamorphmagi develop their powers when they are infants, like their hair changes colors when they are born. But your powers are developing way later. I mean, so did you magic, so maybe it developed later because your magic did too. Which I still never found an explanation for," I said.

"Wow, you really investigated," Alex said.

"I care about you," I said, and then realized that might have sounded weird. "I-I mean, as a friend. You're a close friend."

"Not because were gay," Alex said, he obviously seemed awkward.

"Nope," I said awkwardly. "Um, so anyway, I also found that your hair reflects your emotions if you don't force it to be one color."

"Oh, so if I'm happy it'd be like yellow? I heard that's the happy color," Alex said.

"Yeah, you got it," I said.

I was not going to tell him that pink meant 'love' or 'embarrassment', because I'd be so embarrassed my hair would turn pink. My mind flashed to the memory of when I first discovered his hair changed colors. I didn't know why I touched it, I just did, curiosity I guess. His hair had turned extra pink when I neared him. The memory made me blush a bit.

"So, what happened after I fell?" Alex asked.

"Well, they replaced you and me with some random people who had tried out for the teams earlier, and continued the game. Our replacements where terrible. I swear, the one who replaced me was so excited to prove themselves, and then they didn't hit a bludger once!" I said.

"Who won?" Alex asked.

"Hufflepuffs," I smirked.

"Great," Alex sighed.

*~*

I walked down the hallway. With my crutches. Yes, crutches. I actually had three crutches, if you can believe it. I even named my crutches, their names where left crutch, right crutch and John Laurens.

He was literally constantly at my side, when there where stairs, he would practically pick me up and bring me to the top of the stair case. I didn't mind it, actually, I adored Johns company. No, not adored, enjoyed. I corrected my thoughts. He was walking beside me as we made our way to lunch.

It had been two days sense I had gotten out f the hospital wing, John still did not trust me to sit at the Ravenclaw table with Eliza, Chris, Ben and Steven without his company. As I sat down at the Ravenclaw table, he sat next to me. He was even more kind and insane then the average Hufflepuff.

"So, Hammy, when you gettin' back on the team?" Steven asked me as he loaded his plate with food.

"I don't know, a couple days?" I guessed.

"Next match is in a couple weeks, so no being injured past then," Chris said.

"Hey Ham Chops, when is your birthday?" Eliza asked me suddenly.

"Oh... eh, no idea," I shrugged.

"Excuse me- what?" John asked.

"I don't care about the day I was born," I shrugged, and reached over the table to grab a cookie.

"Lets go find his birth certificate," Eliza said.

"What? Why?" I asked, munching on the cookie.

"'Cause we need to get you presents!" Ben said.

"This is all completely non-important," I said.

"Fine then, your birthday is now tomorrow. What do you want?" John asked.

"I want...," I thought for a moment.

The first thing that appeared in my brain was John smiling. Why is that what appears? I pushed that away and tried to think of something else I wanted. But then there was John again.

"I- um I just- want to spend time with John?" I said nervously, I was not going  to lie, If that's what myself wanted then I'm following through with it.

"Oooo," Ben said, nudging Chris.

"So I can't spend time with my friend?" I asked, glaring at Ben.

"I'd gladly spend time with you," john said, smirking.

"Like hes ever NOT spending time with you," Eliza rolled her eyes.

"I'm being a good self-appointed bodyguard," John protested, I could tell he was trying not to blush.

"And why are you his self appointed bodyguard? Because you want to spend all your time with him," Steven teased.

John snorted and looked up at the ceiling.

"Why don't we go now? Skip the rest of the school day? I can re-schedule my birthday for today," I suggested.

"Sure," John said, smiling at me.

He helped me stand up, and we walked away together.

"OooOOOoooOOo," I heard Ben say.

"SHUT UP!" John shouted over his shoulder at them, and Ben laughed.

I walked with John out into the courtyard. The leaves fell from a couple trees, it was very dramatic... and a bit romantic. I stopped moving and sat down on some leaves. John sat next to me, and we stared at the sky together. I felt something touch my hand, and I looked down to see Johns hand. I blushed, and a small strand of hair that fell in front of my eyes turned bright pink.

I realized my whole head of hair was probably pink. I tried to force the colors away back to brown before John noticed. He obviously noticed, because he looked at me and started blushing.

"Hey, gay guys!" I heard the familiar shout of Peggy.

I forced my hair to stay brown. (That was probably the weirdest sentence I ever wrote. Anyway.)

"We aren't gay," John explained, snatching his hand away from mine before Peggy noticed.

"Anyway, I heard its you new birthday today, Ham, so I got you something," Peggy said.

"Peggy! WE ALL GOT THE SOMETHING!" Angelica said, running into the courtyard. "And we weren't going to give it to him yet."

"Pfft, I totally bought this all by myself," She said, taking a large brown package out of a little handbag. Some magic must have made that package hit inside there.

"Peggy, nobody bought it. We took it from t-" Angelica paused, staring at me. "I mean, we bought it for you, Hammy."

Peggy walked up to me, a leaf blew into her hair as she came over. She handed me the package. I ripped it open, and inside was a broomstick. It was so clean, smooth, no dents in it, perfect. I looked up at Peggy.

"So, where did you buy this?" I asked.

"We didn't buy it, we took it from the Room of Requ-" Peggy started.

"Nope, we bought it from a shop," Angelica said, interrupting Peggy.

"You never steal nice things for me," John complained.

"Not stolen, nobody was using it, so its fine," Peggy said.

"Well, thank you," I said, smiling at them.

"Now, I told Peggy not to ruin your special moment out here by giving you the present. But its not like she listens. We'll leave now," Angelica said, dragging Peggy away.

"Its not a special moment," I said.

"I'll leave you too it!" Peggy winked.

I blushed.

"Wow um, that cloud looks like a duck," John said awkwardly.

"Yeah," I said, laughing nervously.

"So, want to test the broom out?" John said.

"Yeah," I said, glad to get out of the awkward conversation.

I smiled up at him, before reaching for my broom. I sat on top of it, John stood next to me.

"Lets see how fast this thing can go," I smirked.

Then I blasted off into the sky.
