Chapter eighteen- Snake, bird and... cat I guess?

"I just don't get it! Its useless! It makes no sense! And I can still fail school because of it! UUUUUUGH," I complained to John.

We where at lunch together, trying to do math homework. Its the worst. And I'm the one who lives off of coffee and studies all night, but math, just NO. You readers might understand me.

"Fourth wall... SMASHED," I said.

"What?" John asked.

"Nothing," I sighed.

"Hows it going?" Laf said, walking over to us.

"Terrible! Watch this," John said, glaring at me. "Whats three times six."

"Well twelve is six times two. So now I add six more onto that," I said, counting on my fingers. "SEVENTEEN!"

"Oh my god," Laf laughed with John.

I frowned and turned to my food.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!" Peggy shouted from across the hall, running towards us.

She jumped on the table, pushing a bowl of fruit away from me and onto the floor, skirting through a ghost, and tossing a candle stick into someones hair. She then knelt down in front of me and John, and took something from the pocket of her Gryffindor robe.

"EEEEEEEEEE!" She squealed, showing us the object.

It was the picture of me and John almost kissing on the island.

"I- you- LAF!" John shouted, blushing.

A couple Hufflepuffs sitting around us peered at the photo and started smirking a bit.

"LAMS IS OFFICIAL!" A Hufflepuff I didn't know shouted.

At least five people from each house cheered happily, most Hufflepuffs. What does Lams even mean? Should I be cheering? Is it like a holiday? I reached up and snatched the photo from Peggy.

"Hey that's mine!" Peggy shouted, trying to snatch it back.

"No its not, its private information!" I said, standing up.

"Its not private anymore!" Peggy said, jumping off the table.

I sprinted away through the tables. John quickly stood up and sprinted after me, what a great bodyguard. I sprinted as fast as I could, then took out my wand, thinking of my broomstick, and shouted 'Accio'. My broom flew quickly through the halls and flew up next to me. I grabbed it and jumped onto the wood, then leaned forward to take off.

"CHEATER!" Peggy yelled.

"He'll do great in the Triwizard tournaments if there's a broomstick contest," I heard someone comment.

I'll look up Triwizard tournament later. I zoomed over the heads of a couple students and teachers walking through the halls. I felt the cold shiver as I flew through a ghost. Then suddenly I was out in the courtyard, flying high into the sky.

Once I was well out of reach of any spells, I examined the photo, my legs wrapped tightly around the wood so I wouldn't fall. It was a really great photo, black and white, a moving one. It was me and John, that perfect day, leaning closer together, then our faces suddenly flick towards the camera. And then it restarts, going back to us slowly leaning closer.

I folded it up, and stuffed it in my pocket. That's when I heard the noise. It was strange, kind of like a purring noise, but dragon-like. I listened for a bit more, and followed the noise, weaving through the towers of Hogwarts. I found myself flying to the highest peak of the castle.

Once I reached the very highest point, I saw the creature. It was small, very small, snake like, bright iridescent blues and purples, with feathers and wings. It was wrapped around the roof, squealing. I lowered myself down to it, and then reached out to touch the creature.

It had a birds beak, shark and pointy. It slithered away from me. I changed my hand so feathers, the same color as the creature. It slithered up to me and sniffed my weird feathered hand, obviously confused. It then rubbed its head through my feathers, making an odd purring noise.

I lifted up the creature, staring into its eyes. It stared back at me, more comfortable now that my hand was probably similar to its mothers feathers. It yawned, and then curled tightly into a ball.

"ALEX?!" I heard John shout.

I stuffed the creature into my pocket. It didn't protest, just curled up. I plucked a feather painfully from my hand and put it in my pocket with the creature, then changed my hand back to normal.

"HERE!" I shouted, looking around for John.

I saw his distant shape on a broomstick, flying up towards me.

"What are you doing all the way up here?" John asked as he came over.

"I um just thought I saw something shiny on the roof," I said.

"Attracted to shiny things?" John laughed.

I didn't know if I should tell him about the creature. I thought it could be cool to raise it together, like our own chi- Nope that's weird. It was so hard to keep a secret from John though. I looked into his eyes for a moment.

"Whats wrong?" He asked, worried.

"I- er nothing," I said, looking away from him.

"'er nothing' means something," John said.

"It really doesn't matter," I said.

"Yes it does. Everything related to you matters," John said.

"Aw," I said.

"Keeping secrets from me is bad," John said sternly.

"There's no secret," I said.

He suddenly lunged for my pocket. He jumped off his broomstick, landing on mine. I screamed as the broom stick flew downwards from the weight. John reached his hands in my pocket, determination in his face.

"YOUR GOING TO KILL US!" I shouted as the broom flew down towards a wall.

He finally grabbed the creature out of my pocket.

"Hah!" He said triumphantly.

Suddenly we where only twenty feet form a thick stone wall. By instinct, I wrapped my arms around John. We crashed hard into the stone wall, my back slamming into the stone. Except... I didn't crash into the stone. I didn't hurt. I opened my eyes to look for John, but instead all I could see was iridescent blue and purple feathers.

"John?" I asked.

"I can't see," I heard a muffled voice from somewhere above me.

Suddenly the feathers started moving. No, not moving, shrinking. The beast was shrinking down to a small enough size that it could fit inside a tea kettle. I looked around and saw John now, rubbing his head, a couple feet away from me.

"You could've killed me!" I gasped.

"But I didn't," John smirked.

I blushed slightly but pushed it away,  I'm supposed to be mad at him! I glared at him, then whipped my hair around and walked up to the little creature. It purred at me, and I lifted it up in my hands which I made feathery. It wiggled around in my feathers, until It curled into a ball and closed its eyes.

I noticed it was bleeding a bit, and some feathers lay on the ground around us, although these feathers where much bigger then this creatures feathers. Had it grown bigger in seconds to protect me?

"Is it okay?" John asked.

I made sure not to look at him as I walked towards my broomstick, which had miraculously survived the crash, I slipped the creature into my pocket and took off into the sky.

"Don't be mad at me," John complained from bellow me.

I ignored him. He acted so foolish, he needed to learn some common sense. I heard Thomas Paine, a Slytherin, was really good at striking common sense into peoples brains, maybe I could talk to him later.

"Aleeeeeeeeeeeeeeex," John complained.

I had already flown off in the direction of Ravenclaw tower. What an idiot. A very handsome lovable, adorable, kind idiot. That was Johns description. I bet his patronus is a worm, because they have no common sense. Although, I know its a turtle already, but a worm would suit him better.

I spotted Ravenclaw tower and flew towards one of the huge windows. I opened a window about the same size as me, and squeezed inside the dorm. I pulled my broomstick behind me, then ran towards my blue bed. The creature started to chirp and wiggle around in my pocket, so I gently took it out with a feathered hand.

It purred and rubbed its beak in the feathers, slithering around my hand. It was so cute. Not as adorable as John, but cute. No John is currently not cute because he almost killed me over nothing. I thought.

I curled up in my bed, hugging the creature to my chest. Later I would go find its parents, and return it home.
