Chapter 40: Picnic

We both ended up putting on our shoes and heading outside, beginning to walk to the park.

Chris was right. It was a lovely day.

The sun was out, the birds were chirping, and it was just the right temperature.

As we walked, Chris' phone made a noise, and he pulled it out of his pocket.

"Ah, perfect!" He said. "The boys can come. We'll have to pick up some food on the way there. What are you in the mood for?"

"Hmm.." I hummed a bit, thinking. "Pizza's always good."

He laughed. "But we had that already this week."

"Tacos? I don't know." I giggled.

"Mexican food...that sounds good." He said. "We should stop by a food truck and get some before meeting at the park."

"Who will bring the blanket?" I Asked, before laughing. "We didn't exactly prepare."

"Way ahead of you." He said, looking at his phone. "Jonny's bringing one."

"Perfect." I smiled, before looking back up at him.

Just then, I happened to notice a rather large bruise on his forehead, which was only slightly covered by the black beanie he was wearing.

"Dad, What happened to your head?" I Asked worriedly.

He looked up at me, before pulling his hat down a little. "Oh, Nothing.." he said.

I furrowed my eyebrows, but nodded anyway.

What was going on with him? He seemed rather flustered every time I asked him if he was okay.

"Oh look, there's one." He said, pointing over to the other side of the street where there was a Mexican food truck. "Let's just order a pack of tacos."

"Okay." I Said, trying to shake off my feeling of worry for him.

He was probably fine, I was just worried after all that had happened.

Chris took my hand, slipping his phone back in his pocket as we made our way across the street.

We only had to wait in line for a bit, before we went up and Chris ordered.

"Do you think a dozen tacos will be enough for everyone?" He asked, looking down as me.

"I mean, if everyone just has two, it should be fine." I shrugged.

"Should we get drinks?"

"Maybe some water?"

He nodded, before looking back up at the worker. "Can we get six waters as well?"

"Sure." The worker nodded.

"Thanks."

Chris payed for the food, and we went over and sat down at a nearby table as they made the tacos.

We sat In silence for quite a bit, until Chris looked up at me.

"Have you been thinking about the homeschool thing?" He Asked.

I shrugged a little. "I really don't know, to be honest." I mumbled. "I feel like I should just go to public school so I'm not in the way."

"Sweetie, don't say that.." he said. "You'd never be in the way. I'd love having you home with me, actually. I want you to choose whatever you'd like, okay?"

I nodded. "But what do you want?" I Asked. "Like, you'll be busy when touring comes around again, and I'm sure you won't want to teach me."

"It doesn't matter what I want." He said. "I just want to know what you would be most comfortable with. I would love to teach you, Believe me."

I nodded again. "If you're sure.."

"You want me to homeschool you?" His eyes lit up.

"Only If you're sure."

"I am!" He said, smiling at me. "It'll be fun, right?"

I smiled a little. "Yeah, it would be."

"Alright, perfect." He said. "Now we have that settled. School starts in a week. I'll have to get some books, yeah?"

I nodded.

"Let's see, history, math, science.." he said. "What else did you do when you were homeschooled by you aunt?"

"English, French, biology.." I said. "I'm sure I'll remember the others later."

"I'm excited to get started." He smiled.

I nodded, smiling back at him.

"Your order is ready!" The person from the food truck called.

Both Chris and I stood, going over and grabbing the two bags they handed us.

Chris ended up taking the bag of water bottles, since it was heavier, and I stuck to carrying the tacos.

We began to make our way down to the park, and when we got there, we found Phil, Jonny, Will, And Guy's cars parked at the side of the road.

"Alright, they're already here!" Chris Exclaimed as we entered in the gates.

We spotted them over by a large tree, all sitting down on a blanket which was spread out on the ground.

Chris and I began to make our way over, and they noticed us.

"Hey guys!" Will Said, waving.

"Hey." Chris Said, smiling at them.

"What did you bring?" Guy Asked.

Chris set his bag down on the blanket, before sitting cross legged on the ground.

I did the same, opening up the taco bag, and showing everybody.

"Ohh, tacos!" Phil Said.

"Also, to stay hydrated.." Chris opened the water bag and pulled out all of the water bottles, laying them on the blanket.

"Great, thanks guys." Jonny Said.

"Yeah, this was a good idea." Will Said. "We haven't had a lot of time to just hang out like this."

"Right?" Chris Asked. "It's a beautiful day, too."

"Come on, let's eat before the tacos get cold!" Guy laughed.

I giggled a little as he reached into the bag, pulling out one of the tacos and unwrapping it.

Everybody else ended up doing the same, and we all began to eat.

We talked as we ate, mostly about random things. It was clear we were all trying to be positive after the whole thing with my mum. I was glad we could all just laugh again. I really missed it.

After we all had eaten, Chris stood up, and Jonny looked up at him.

"What are you doing?" He asked.

"Come on, let's play!" He exclaimed.

I laughed a little, standing up as well. "What should we play?"

He pretended to think for a minute, before tapping me on the shoulder.

"Tag, you're it!" He exclaimed before running off.

"No fair!" I laughed, before running over to Guy.

Guy quickly stood, also taking off. "You can't get me!"

"Oh yeah?" I Asked.

All of the boys ended up standing and running in the same direction as Chris, and I began to chase them.

I knew I would never catch up with Chris, but I ended up tagging Jonny, who tagged Guy, who actually tagged Chris again.

Chris then began to chase me again, and, such he was such a fast runner, he was super close to tagging me.

"You'll never tag me!" I exclaimed breathlessly.

"Yes I will!" He laughed.

We were running like that for a few minutes, until suddenly, he stopped.

I stopped as well, turning around.

"Dad?" I Asked.

Was he done playing?

Phil, Guy, Will, and Jonny went over to him, looking at him worriedly.

"Chris, are you okay?" Will Asked.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine.." he said, wincing a little.

I Walked over, also looking at him worriedly. He was paler then a ghost. The only time I had ever seen him like this was when..

I shook the thought off. I didn't want to think about that again.

Chris swallowed. "Maybe we should go take a break?"

"Yeah." Phil agreed, nodding.

We all began to walk back to the blanket, when suddenly, Chris gripped his stomach, groaning in pain.

"Dad!" I Said. "Dad, what's wrong?"

"I'm...fine.." he said quietly, wincing.

"Chris, you should sit-" Jonny began, but suddenly, Chris fell to the ground, completely blacked out.
