Nure-onna or soaked womens are similar to Iso-onna or women of the shore. They can be seen especially in the Hokurikudo region where they haunt the waters near the banks, where the willows grow. They are found in ponds and rivers as well as in the open sea .

They emerge their snake bodies and catch with their tails the unfortunate walkers who have the audacity to approach too close to the edge; they drown them and then suck their blood.

Some Nure-onna behave like Ubume ( ubume is a Japanese folk yōkai who appears in folk stories or literature as an old woman with a child in her arms, imploring passers-by to hold the child and immediately disappear. According to legend, the weight of the child gradually increases until the bewitched "child" turns out to be nothing more than a huge rock or boulder)

they sometimes mingle with Ushi-oni (beef demon) to attack boats. The Ushi-oni are said to be the companions of the Nure-onna. They work together to trap their victims using the baby trick, which is for the Nure-onna to ask a passerby for help in carrying her baby. The poor man finds himself with the child in his arms even before he has had time to respond. The Nure-onna then disappears in the waves and it is then that Ushi-uni comes out of the water and attacks .

Impossible for the poor victim to get rid of his burden which remains hung like a leech, getting heavier and heavier, thus preventing the prey from moving and fleeing. The Ushi-oni only has to rush down on the unfortunate and impale him on his pointed horns.
