CHAPTER TWO
"What do you mean the doves flew away?" Audrey angrily questions on the phone. The girls were still helping getting Mal ready for her wedding while Audrey made sure everything was going as planned, but it seemed like things weren't going well. "Flew away? I-I planned a dove release! Well, you can call Snow White up and tell her to figure it out!"
Luna and Phoebe exchange a look and glance at Audrey with slight concern after the brunette ended the phone call. "You good, Audrey?" Luna asked her. Audrey huffed angrily and crossed her arms. She didn't get the chance to say anything since the door opened seconds later.
Jay walks in with a worried look on his face and Luna and Phoebe share a surprised look when they heard yelling out in the hallway. "Uh, Jay, what's going on?" Phoebe questioned, looking back at the long-haired boy along with Luna.
Jay gestures to out in the hallway. "It's chaos out there. It's Hades. He destroyed The Great Hall." When he explained that, all the girls quickly went over to the windows to look.
"Oh, no." Luna muttered, frowning at the destroyed Great Hall.
"That's where the wedding was going to be." Phoebe said, glancing at her friends worriedly. "What are we going to do now?"
While the other girls seemed to be worried about the wedding, Audrey was more worried about something else. "Oh, no, no! My decor!" She sobs. "My beautiful..."
"If it helps, he tried to be friendly." Jay sheepishly smiled at Mal, who looked down with a disappointed look.
"Him trying to be friendly is setting things on fire?" Luna inquired with disbelief.
"Perfect decor!" Audrey continued to cry and Phoebe pat her shoulder to comfort her.
"I mean, he bared his teeth, which is kind of like smiling." Jay spoke.
Mal sighs heavily and crosses her arms. Evie puts a comforting hand on her shoulder. "I know how disappointed you are," Audrey leans her head on Mal's shoulder and Luna and Phoebe joins the girls, smiling sympathetically at her. "But we'll be here."
Mal smiles at each of them. She then shakes her head. "I'm not disappointed because my dad would never purposefully ruin my wedding." When she moves, the girls around her step to the side, watching her with concern as she walks to the other side of the room. "This is just some kind of big misunderstanding. Okay?"
Jay raises his eyebrow, crossing his arms. "Misunderstanding?" He gestures to the destroyed Great Hall. "The wedding is on fire."
"Yeah, I don't think that's a misunderstanding." Phoebe commented.
Evie furrows her eyebrows. "And if it was a mistake, why did he run away? Even if his heart is in the right place, maybe it would be smoother if he isn't there."
With a determined look on her face, Mal turns to face her friends, waving a dismissive hand. "Well, I'm not getting married without him. My father is walking me down that aisle, and I'm gonna find him, and I'm gonna talk to him myself."
Her friends quickly follow her as she began walking towards the door and she stops. "M, you're not running off to the Isle on your own!" Evie told her.
"Well, then come with me." Mal suggested.
Luna's eyes widen and she looks at her nervously. "Go to the Isle?"
"First time for everything." Phoebe shrugged.
"If anyone can bring him back, we can." Mal said, smiling at Evie and Jay.
Smiling, Jay puts his fist out. "Because we're rotten."
"To the core." Mal and Evie spoke in unison, putting their fists in the middle beside Jay's.
Audrey walks off to the side while she calls someone. "Send out the mini tacos." She said quietly. "There's going to be a delay."
"Uh, Mal, could we not adventure in these dresses?" Evie asked nervously.
Mal glances down at her wedding dress and smiles sheepishly, looking at Evie. "Oh, yeah, totally." She giggles, "I totally get that."
Evie smiles at her. "Thanks."
****
Alex was trying to help clean things up in the Great Hall after it got ruined when Evie found him, explaining to him she, Mal and Jay were heading to the Isle to talk to Hades to get him back. When Evie asked if he could go with them, he then changed into more appropriate Isle clothes since wearing a suit wasn't the best thing to wear on the Isle. He followed his girlfriend to where the others were at. After a heartfelt moment with the four of them remembering Carlos (may he rest in peace) and Evie and Jay giving Mal a bracelet that had the four VKs crest on it, the group all ran to the bridge when Audrey rushed over to them, saying they needed to go see the bridge.
Mal's shoulders drop in defeat as a sad look forms on her face when she saw throughout the bridge blue fire surrounded it. "Dad!" She and the others ran on the bridge to where they saw Uma standing.
"Uma, what happened?" Evie asked the blue-haired girl.
Uma crosses her arms. "Hades happened."
"Wow." Jay comments, staring at the bridge with wide eyes. He glances at Mal. "When your dad burns, he literally burns bridges."
"Look, I tried to catch him, okay? And get him to chill." Uma explains. "But his hair was wild and it was blowing the wind and set the bridge on fire."
Mal steps forward with a pleading look in her eyes. "I need to get to the Isle and bring my dad back. If you could help me, please."
Uma chuckles lightly. "for the queen on her wedding day, I got you." She ran towards the edge of the bridge and jumped into the water. She laughs as she comes back up out of the water as half octopus. She grins at her friends. "Y'all might wanna stand back." Her friends do as they were told, running to the part of the bridge that wasn't on fire.
"Audrey!" Jay calls out to the brunette who was now on the phone. "Look out!"
"get off the phone if you don't wanna get soaked!" Alex warned her.
Audre didn't listen to the boys and she screamed whenever she got soaked along with that part of the bridge when Uma threw her tentacle onto the water, creating a big wave. Alex laughed along with Jay while Evie smiled and applauded her.
"Thank you, Uma." Mal called out to her.
"Whoo! Way to go!" Jay cheered.
"That was awesome." Alex grinned.
"Horray, Uma. You're so great." Audrey commented sarcastically.
"Consider it my wedding present." Uma smiles down at Mal. "Now go get your dad. I'll get all your guests back to the reception with the help of Luna, Phoebe, and Corey."
Jay smiles, raising his hand as a high five. "Up top."
"Thank you, Uma." Evie smiled.
Alex points at Uma and grins. "You rock, Uma."
Mal salutes at Uma and smiles. "Hey, I'm never going to forget this."
Alex walks beside his girlfriend as they all walk onto the Isle. Things were different ever since the bridge was opened up, allowing everyone on the Isle to go to Auradon and everyone on Auradon go to the Isle. But things were a good different surpassingly.
The Isle has improved so much since the bridge was opened up to all and now it actually looked livable unlike what it looked like before. Mal smiles. "Home sweet home."
"I love that the Isle has had a major glow up!" Evie admitted, glancing around the place with a bright smile.
"Me too." Alex agrees. "It looks so much better."
"Yeah, wow. It's a lot cleaner now, too." Jay noticed.
Trailing behind the other four teens, Audrey groans when she stepped in something that looked like gum on the ground. A disgusted expression forms on her face. "Define 'a lot'."
"Hold it, hold it." The heavier set guard called out to the group when they reached Hades' lair, causing them to stop walking. He walks forward along with the other guard. "Boss says nobody gets inside."
"Dave, what?" Mal asks with disbelief. "Come on. It's me."
"Sorry, Mal." Dave apologizes. "Orders is orders."
Mal puts a hand on her hip. "Hey, it's my wedding day."
The guard beside Dave smiles at her. "Oh, yeah." He said in realization. "Happy wedding day."
"Unfortunately, can't let you in." Dave told her.
"But congrats on the big day." The other guard laughs. "And save us some cake."
Mal rolls her eyes, crossing her arms. "Ugh, guess I'm going to have to do this the hard way." Her friends watch with grins as Mal transformed into a dragon.
"It will forever be awesome that she can do that." Alex remarked.
The two guards stare at Mal with scared expressions while Mal flew up in the air. Mal roared at them and flew back towards them. Just before Mal got close enough to the two guards, the doors opened and Hades walked out.
"Woah, woah, woah, woah! Mal!" Hades outstretches his arm, trying to calm down his daughter, who lowered back to the ground. "Mal, calm down. Calm down."
Mal transforms back to a human. "Hi, dad." She greets. "We need to talk."
Alex looks around the lair curiously, following Hades along with his girlfriend and friends. He had never been in the lair before and he had to admit it looked really cool, but also really creepy. What surprised him the most was the fact his brother was sitting by the fireplace.
Ben's face lit up when he saw his fiance. "Mal!" He stood, smiling widely at her.
Mal smiles at him. "Ben." She said, her voice laced with surprise, but she was still excited to see him so she rushed over to him and hugged him. He didn't hesitate to hug her back and they held onto each other tightly.
Then Mal quickly pulls away, covering her eyes which confused Ben. "Hey, you're not supposed to see me."
Evie quickly rushes forward, stepping between the couple and covers Ben's eyes. "Woah! Close your eyes. Bad luck."
Alex laughs. "Babe, I think they had all the bad luck they're gonna get today."
Evie's heart flutters at hearing the term of endearment. Despite the fact she and Alex have been together for a few years now, she still got flustered when he used those kind of nicknames. She smiles slightly and lowers her hands, letting Ben and Mal see each other. She moved to stand by Alex, smiling at him when he intertwined their hands together.
"What are you doing here?" Mal asked Ben.
"Getting this guy back to the ceremony." Ben responds, referring to Hades. He walks over to stand by Hades, resting his elbow on his shoulder. "Even if I have to drag him by his freaky blue hair..." When Hades shot him an annoyed look, Ben quickly moves his elbow off his shoulder and walks over to stand in front of Mal. "Or appeal to him with logic and reason."
Ben holds onto both of Mal's hands. "I knew you would want him to be there no matter what he did." His eyes widen in realization and he lets go of her hands, getting something out of his pocket. He held the purple lizard wearing a hat and smiles at Mal. "I caught your mom too."
Maleficent growls at Hades when she saw him. He smiles with amusement. "That's her, alright. I'd recognize those cold, dead eyes anywhere." Maleficent hisses at him and he laughs. "Looking good, Maleficent."
Mal follows her dad, who was walking to the other side of the room. She grabs onto his arm, causing him to stop walking and turns to look at her. "Dad, please come back. You know hw much it means to me to have you there."
Hades pull his arm out of her grasp, turning around. "And I wanted to be there, believe me." He sighs. "But I still terrify people." He crosses his arms. "I can't help it. Especially when I lose control." He chuckles. "You should have seen the-"
"Dad." Mal interrupts him in a stern voice. Hades sighs, walking back over to his daughter and takes ahold of both her hands. "Look, in my heart, I'm still a ruthless villain," He pulls away and turns to walk away. "But I'm not ruthless enough to ruin the happiest day of your life." He crosses his arms, facing away from his daughter. "I'm sorry."
Alex smiled slightly. He was glad Hades cared about Mal enough not to ruin her wedding day, but he hoped Hades would consider coming back since it would mean a lot to Mal. Mal walked over to her dad, putting a hand on his shoulder and her other hand on his arm.
"You don't have to be." She reassures him. "I know what happened wasn't your fault."
"Hmmm," Hades tilts his head to the side, staring off in space "It really wasn't..."
"Uh," Alex chimes in, staring at him with curiosity. "So what even happened?"
"I'll tell you, blondie." Hades replies. "I'm not a fool. I know everyone expects the worst of me. But I didn't care to ruin your day." He said to his daughter. "So...I did my best to be friendly, to keep cool. Until..." He went on to explain how Dude was chasing Maleficent throughout the Great Hall. "I thought if I helped, it would ease the tension, but..." Alex was surprised to find out Dude biting Hades' butt was the reason why Hades lost control of his fire and he honestly found the reason a bit amusing. "I tried to put it out. I really tried." He said how he grabbed a flyer and rolled it up and then hit the flag that was on fire, putting out the fire.
He explained how Chad was calling for help since he thought he was on fire. Hades then said how he had the idea of pouring the water fountain in the Great Hall on Chad. "Okay, full disclosure. Chad wasn't on fire but I couldn't resist because he's the worst. So that's one on me."
Alex laughs when Hades said that. "I don't blame you for doing that. Probably would've done the same thing."
"Understandable." Mal agrees. She glances at Evie. "He's the worst, right?"
"Yep." Evie nods in agreement. "Chad is the worst."
Hades exhales sharply. "I know I ruined everything, but I swear it wasn't on purpose."
"Yeah, it seems like a misunderstanding to me." Alex nodded.
Mal walks over to her dad, turning him to face her. She smiles softly when he looked at her. "Dad, I never thought for a moment that you did it on purpose. It's not going to be the happiest day if you're not there. I want to be surrounded by the people that I love. And that means you." Hades smiled at her.
Mal stands by Ben, holding out her hands for her mom to come over to her. Maleficent gets out of Ben's hands and goes to her daughter. Mal laughs lightly. "And I love you, mom. Whether you have skin or scales. Or you fit in my pocket or you breathe fire. You will always be my mom." She joined her dad and he pulled her in for a hug.
When there was a gust of pink smoke suddenly, Alex wrapped his arm around Evie, moving her to the side to cover her since he didn't know what was happening and he wanted to keep her safe. Alex removed his arm from Evie and they both stood side by side, sharing a confused look with Evie after they heard Fairy Godmother speak.
"There you are!" Fairy Godmother exclaimed. The pink smoke went away, revealing her, Adam and Belle, Audrey, Corey, Phoebe, Luna, Jay, and Dude.
Adam hugs his oldest son as Belle hugs her daughter-in-law. "Oh, you guys!" Adam said worriedly. "We were so worried about you." Alex clears his throat loudly to gain his dad's attention. He glances at his youngest son and chuckles. "You too, of course." He gestured for Alex to join the hug. Alex smiled and joined the hug with his dad and brother.
"Hey, guys!" Alex smiles at Corey, Phoebe, and Luna, pulling them in for a hug. "I'm glad you guys are here."
"Okay, yes, very emotional." Audrey chimes in. "Loving it. But tic-tok people!" She urgently said and the others pulled away from the hug.
Fairy Godmother walks towards the group. "Chop-chop! Let's hustle, everybody." She waves her wand around. "Bippity-boppity-"
"Hold on!" Ben interjects, stopping Fairy Godmother from saying her spell. He looks at his fiancé with a smile. "You want to be married surrounded by the people you love." He stands in front of her, holding onto both of her hands. "So do I," He gestures to everyone with a smile on his face. "And here they are."
He looks at Hades. "Hades, we love you. I want you to feel welcome." Hades looks at him with surprise, but he still smiles. Ben looks back at Mal with a soft smile. "Mal, I want you to enjoy every moment of today. So what do you say? Will you marry me here? Right now?"
Mal's eyes widen and she stares at him with surprise. "Yes," Mal smiles softly at him. "That would be...Perfect." Alex smiled, wrapping his arm around Evie's waist and he shared a smile with her as she wrapped her arm around his waist and leaned into his side.
"Wait, wait, wait!" Audrey calls out worriedly. "No, no, no. The orchestra! the swans! The fireworks!"
Evie frowns and leans her head on Alex's shoulder. "The dress." She said sadly. Alex smiled sympathetically at her, rubbing her arm up and down to comfort her.
With a smile on her face, Fairy Godmother waves her hand, pointing it at the ceiling. Magic surrounds Mal and as she twirled around and soon the wedding dress Evie made for her appeared on her. Evie left Alex's side and excitedly ran over to Mal. The two girls held onto each others hands and grinned at each other. Alex chuckled lightly and smiled at the interaction.
"Kind of what I do." Fairy Godmother commented.
"Hey, FG," Audrey stands by her with a hopeful look in her eyes. "You think you can help with, you know..." She gestures to the lair. "The atmosphere, because this place..." She groaned in disgust as she looked around.
Fairy Godmother smirks. "Bippity! Boppity! Whoo!"
