7- Hourglass

My legs bounced as I stared out the window. The guys were all sat around me, arguing over something I could hardly hear anymore. Zach and Maxx sat on one side- Zach mostly silent but Maxx speaking up. Dan, Cody, and Matt all sat on the other side. Dan and Cody were the ones arguing the most. Dan had suddenly gotten freaked out about the switch from the diamond to the hourglass, so now we all had to defend it. I don't know if I purposefully tuned out or if it had been an accident- my memory was shot.

"Guys," Zach spoke up. Cody and Dan still argued, getting animated. Has that tree always been there?

"Guys!" Zach yelled.

"What?" Cody and Dan nearly screamed, turning to Zach.

Zach quickly said, "Shut the hell up for like two minutes. Sam, are you okay?"

I turned at the sound of my name, blinking, "What?"

"Are you okay?" Zach asked, voice quieter. He looked concerned- for a brief moment I couldn't tell if it was for me or for the sake of the boys. Maxx, Dan, Cody, and Matt all stared at me with looks that ranged from a little scared to downright pissed.

"Mhm. Yeah," I mumbled, looking down at Killian. He laid across my feet, sleeping. Why hadn't he alerted me?

The look on Zach's face let me know he thought otherwise, but he dropped the subject. Turning to Dan and Cody, he took a deep breath, "We're going to continue this discussion, but as soon as either one of you raises your voice you're buying drinks for everyone and the next round of Sam's meds cuz you're making her need them, understood?"

Dan and Cody both nodded. Dan continued to look pissed, but Cody's eyes had widened a little.

"Zach that may be a little far, I can handle my own bills," I mumbled, gently nudging Killian awake. He stirred, looking around for a moment before alerting me to a panic attack. "Yeah, thanks bud."

Zach sighed, "Okay, fine. Drinks on the next person that yells."

"I can do that," Cody grumbled, rubbing a hand down his face.

Maxx huffed, a smile on his face. "Cody I don't think that's the point."

Cody's glare made him stop talking altogether.

"So, the switch. Dan, we all feel that it would be good for us to make the switch from the diamond to the hourglass. Not only because we're changing our sound, but we've also changed as a band," Zach said, grabbing his drink to sip from.

Dan's glare almost made me want to leave. I took a shuddering breath, shutting my eyes and just trying to get through some breathing exercises. Killian's head lifted briefly, but he rested it back on my leg a moment later. I ran a hand through his fur, feeling his steady breaths wash over me.

By the time the meeting ended, we had decided on the switch to the hourglass. Maxx had even begun working on the video recording a bit before the sunset. As far as I knew, he was still in there and waiting for the sun to set so he could record the rest.

I sat in the hallway, letting Killian rest on my legs as I worked on breathing. My heart still slammed in my chest, despite taking my meds earlier to help relieve that. The guys were still in the other room, discussing dinner or something. I could barely hear them through the walls- Cody brought up pizza again, and Dan and Maxx quickly vetoed. But where was Zach-?

"How are you feeling Sam?" Zach asked from the doorway next to me.

I opened my eyes and looked up at him, "Meh."

"Do you need a ride home? I can have Cody follow so he can bring me back here to get my car-," Zach pushed himself off the doorway, walking so that he stood in front of me.

I cut him off, "No, it's okay, I can drive myself. I just don't want pizza for the eighth time this week."

Zach laughed a little, sliding down the wall so he sat with me, "That makes sense. Maybe I could suggest they do subs instead?"

I opened my eyes, "That sounds awesome, as long as they're Pub subs."

"Duh."

We both laughed a little, then let the following silence hang in the air for just a moment. I sighed heavily, rubbing a hand through Killian's fur. His head picked up briefly as he booped my wrist, but he dropped it a moment later.

"How's he holding up?" Zach asked quietly, eyes on Killian.

It took a moment for me to remember why he was asking. The scene of him falling off the stage played through my mind again, and I shuddered, pushing it away. "He's okay. Got a bit of a limp though. I have to call the service dog place to get them to start working on a new dog, I think." Just the idea of having a different service dog scared me for a moment, but I took a deep breath and shook it off.

"Are you going to have them train the new dog in Latin too?" Zach asked, reaching out to pet Killian's butt (the only spot he could reach).

I nodded, "That way the pup knows when she's working. It might be confusing otherwise."

Zach nodded, "Any name ideas yet?"

"Emma," I said without hesitation.

"Once Upon A Time themed again?" Zach jokingly groaned. "At this rate, you're going to make us rewatch it when we go on tour again."

I considered the idea, "That's not a bad idea."

Zach laughed, "You knew that was a joke!" He threw his hands up in exasperation, still laughing.

I couldn't help the laugh that came from my own mouth, "Yup. Still a good idea."

Zach's smile dropped when his phone buzzed. He pulled it out, and the smile instantly returned as he typed. Only one person could make him smile like that.

"How's Katie doing? I miss our girl time," I smiled, scratching Killian's head.

"She's okay. She can't make it with us on the next tour though, maybe Shay and Sydney can though," Zach looked up at me.

"It just won't be the same though," I sighed dramatically, pressing the back of my hand to my forehead in the ultimate "woe is me" move.

Zach laughed, "I'll try and talk her into it."

"Sweet!" I grinned.
