Epilogue

Like the end of a movie, everything is wrapped up in a nice little bow for Avery and the rest of the family.

Her and Tyler were successfully pulled out of the lake and lifted up to safety on the bridge above. There, Peter and Logan joined them in a hug both to express their love for Avery and to help warm her up.

Leigh successfully got all the kids home to safety before Avery's father was able to get to them.

Police arrived just moments after he did. They arrested him and threw him into the back of their car. They found poisonous gas in his possession. They believe that if he had gotten into the house where the kids were, that he would have poisoned them all.

He will be taken to the local jail and will sit in a cell there until his court date.

Police also found overwhelming evidence that he had murdered his wife and fiancé and connected him to three other unsolved murders in the area over the last fifteen years.

In each case, he strangled the women and staged their deaths to look like suicides.

Avery is taken to the hospital. She is treated for a concussion, multiple abrasions, and a few broken ribs.

When she is released and feeling better, she drives all the way back to her childhood hometown and visit's her mother's grave, thanking her for giving her the strength she needed to get out of that car.

She also visit's Hillary's grave. She knows that without her, her mother's murder would have never been solved. Avery also knows that Hillary shouldn't have had to die for her father to be stopped.

But she did and there's nothing she can do now but remember her.

Life is significantly calmer for the large family now that their father is out of the picture.

A whole year passes. The whole family is sitting at their father's court date. Today is the day the judge rules if he is mentally fit to stand trial or not. If he allows it, her father will stand trial for the murders of five innocent women. If he doesn't, he will go to a facility where he will spend the rest of his days receiving treatment.

Either way, he will never see the outside again as a free man.

However, Avery is worried that her father will somehow get out on a mentally unfit plea. She knows that he was aware of what he did and deserves to go to prison for it.

The judge ultimately rules that he is fit and that trial will begin in a few weeks. He is sent back to jail to wait for the official trial.

As for the family members, their lives are going well.

Avery and Tyler are now officially engaged and are excited to continue growing their family.

Logan and Leigh celebrate their one year anniversary and are still happily in love.

Peter, seventeen now, is in his senior year of high school and is handling his Bipolar Disorder very well.

Kara discovered that she can dance and is actually very good at it. Avery got her enrolled in dance classes so she can peruse her passion.

Summer and Mason have started a bug collection where they catalogue and research as many bugs as they can. No one really understands why they are so interested in it, but if it makes them happy, it makes everyone else happy too.

Tilly is five now. She started school. It's only preschool but she is very excited about it.

It seems like the family that was brought together by turmoil is going to live happily ever after.

Or is it?
