Chapter Three

Seven o'clock classes should be illegal. Simple as that. I mean they do want me to make it to my sohphmore year without dying don't they? Sometimes I wonder why I'm even here at this school, learning, while my parents don't even know where I am, but that is where the story begins.

I decided that I wanted to be a lawyer when I was twelve years old. I wanted to stand up for the people that couldn't stand up for themselves; to be their right hand to provide them with justice and peace. Growing up the way I did, I didn't see justice or peace. And now, I want everyone that wants it, to have it, and in a few years I can and will give it to them. I may look like a scary person, but I will do anything to help someone when they need it. I haven't yet decided whether I will go into the juvenile court system or not. Time will tell I suppose.

Here I am, sipping coffee, with a little energy drink added, sitting in this auditorium listening to the old professor rant on and on about the complexities of the Civil War.

"Two roads diverged in a wood and I- I took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference."

In a way, I took the road less traveled, by branching out of from the life I was raised in and it has made a difference. I saved myself from the destruction of the world I was born into. Life was lazy, you didn't work, you drank alcohol, therefore your family suffered. You didn't need true friends, you needed drug buddies. The way I look at things I've come up in the world. I have a life, and friends that I don't know what I would do without, there is no physical gain, but there is emotional. The only emotions I knew were pain and emptiness, now I'm experiencing, slowly, happiness and life to the fullest.

The next thing I know I'm sitting in the quad eating my lunch, studying for math. That was really my biggest regret in college so far, that of choosing Business as my minor. To put it nicely it wasn't my strongest suit. The professor said so herself, and she was one of my favorites. She so kindly told me if I don't get help soon that I would fail, and I paid to much for this to fail now. That was my plan for the evening, call the number that Mrs. Lane had given me and order some Chinese takeout for Elmer and I. While in the middle of day dreaming I didn't even notice the shadow now blocking the sun in the garden. I looked up and was quickly blinded by the large sun ball, I put my hand up to cover it, relieving me somewhat of my agony. To discover what?

The one and only Micah Wyler.

"Hey, Not Yours, how's it going?"

"How can I help you?" I ask partly annoyed that he interrupted my lunch.

"There are a few things I can think of that you could help me with." He said with a wink and a smirk. I instantly became annoyed at his comment. The nerve of this guy!

"You know I'm only kidding right? I would never say anything like that to a girl."

I rolled my eyes at this comment. Why would I have a problem with the existence of this guy? Well it doesn't help any that if he figures out that I'm the one that trespassed and vandalized his apartment I will be dead meat. Yes, I just said that. Getting sued by anyone with half as much money as Mr. Attitude over here would leave me penniless.

If you didn't want this weight on your shoulders then why did you break into his apartment and destroy his speaker like it was a Nazi on U.S soil? Sleep, that's why. Is that not a valid enough reason?

I suppose if I wanted to become a lawyer anytime soon I was going to have to step up my act and become a more law abiding citizen. But what can a girl do when someone is interfering with her sleep?

You could have asked them to turn it down.

This is the reason I never listen to my subconscious. He totally deserved that.

Totally...

"But seriously do you need anything?" I asked getting anxious around him. I can not get caught!

"No, I just wanted to say hello. I wanted to apologize on the behalf of my friends. They just weren't paying much attention, and you're kinda small." He winked. Right then and there I had to clamp my hands together so I wouldn't punch the dirt bag. I'm not small. They are giants. Handsome, rich giants... that could sue the pants off of you Knox! Keep your head in the game!

"Well, if that's all..." I looked around the quad so as to give him a hint that he could leave. But you know guys, they just don't get it. I thought it was a teenager thing that made all the boys oblivious to hints that girls, or people in general gave. But this guy is a grown man, not a child.

"...Oh! Yeah, I guess I'll see you around..."

I finally gave in and told him.

"Knox, Knox Vincent." I gave him a wicked smile. He grinned back goofily.

"Knox, that's interesting. Kinda like you." He smiled again and continued to his table. The one all the jocks sat at. I thought all jocks were grade A buttholes. I guess he was an exception.

(Micah's POV) Bet you weren't expecting this!!!

I was in the shower when I heard a loud beating noise and then screeching. What the... my music stopped. I wrapped a towel around my waist and breathed in the steamy air of the bathroom. Then a yell. I was out of the bathroom in no time. As soon as I got to the living room the door to my apartment shut. I instantly shot out of the threshold yelling profanities. The intruder had high tailed it. I followed in hot pursuit. All these years of football and track coming to use. I still couldn't figure out if it was a dude or a chick. By the time I got down the stairs there was no one in sight.

"Hey! Who smashed my speaker?! Come on! You can come out and face me like a man!" I yelled aggravated that someone could get inside so easily. I'll have to tell my father that there needs to be more modern security in this building, he can contact the college and get this taken care of. This is not going to be tolerated!

No one came out to face me.

"Coward." I muttered under my breath. I went back up and took in the scene in front of me, My speaker was nothing but bits an pieces. Well...what am I going to do now? The first thing I'm doing is put some pants, on and then see why in the world Gray didn't catch this intruder. I walked up the stairs, leading up to the loft area to meet Gray with ear buds in his ear and his eyes closed. I could hear the music from where I was standing. It's no wonder he didn't hear them. I went over and kicked the mattress causing his eyes to open abruptly out of shock.

"Man! What was that for?" He asked slightly panicked.

"Someone just came into the apartment and smashed my speaker to bits and you didn't say or do anything about it. That's what that is for!" I said a little louder then usual.

"Well, I wasn't awake and I was all the way up here. How was I supposed to know?" Gray asked with a glare in his eyes.

"I don't know. Sorry, I didn't mean to fly all ape crap on you dude."

"Oh, just shut up and leave me alone Mic." He rolled his eyes and smirked in my direction.

"And turn down the music. I can hear it from here."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah Dad." I chuckled walking down the steps and going back into the bathroom to shave, this time without my beats. I had to get ready for this night class that I hated with a passion.
