Chapter 22
No one's POV
Bam broke Khun's lighthouse barrier, taking Rachel with him, pulling her behind him. Khun stared at him, expecting him to say something. His gun was still pointed at Rachel.
"Khun, what are you doing?" Bam asked, scared for the conflict that this may start.
"Sorry Bam, but that girl's life needs to end."
"Why?-"
"Bam! What the hell are you doing?! I'm the one who should be asking you why. Why are you helping a girl that'll be willing to kill you without any hesitation? Why...is her life more important than your sister's?"
"My...sister? What do you mean?"
"I'm talking about (Y/n)."
"She...can't be my sister. I never had any siblings. I was always alone in the darkness...until Rachel came down from the light. I had no one except her."
"Bam, stop being unreasonable. Don't you find it strange how Rachel just happens to know the demon possessing (Y/n)'s body? What about her affiliation with Fug? How come she knows so much about (Y/n)?"
"Khun, I-"
"Bam, please listen to me."
"No...Khun, you should listen to me. I understand why you hate Rachel but I simply can't bring myself to. After all, she was the star that lit up the dark sky. I think you should stop trying to bring (Y/n) back. You never loved her, because I know you can never love."
"Bam..."
"Leave. I won't let you hurt Rachel."
"...fine, but don't regret your decision."
Khun now aimed the gun at Bam. Tension spread around the two like fire eating up a forest. That was to be expected. This was a fight between best friends.
But it was all fake. Bam couldn't lie to Khun no matter how hard he tried. This was necessary to trick Rachel, who was smirking behind Bam's back. Neither of them did anything, till Rachel got out a small pocket knife.
She quickly attempted to stab Bam's back, but Khun was faster and shot her hand. She let out a yell in pain and dropped the knife, trying to stop the blood coming out from the gunshot wound.
"Rachel, what a sneaky thing to do. Even after Bam claimed to protect you, you'd still betray him under any circumstances," exclaimed Khun.
"K-Khun! Weren't you gonna shoot Bam?! Why?...I don't understand."
"Of course you wouldn't. Your simple little brain just can't process things unless someone explains it to you."
"You!-"
"Did you really think Bam was going to side with you? Tch, what a joke. Even if he is the nicest guy I've ever met, he wouldn't betray friends who are actually loyal to him. He's not stupid enough to follow a star that'll soon disappear."
"Rachel...I'm sorry. I can't help you," Bam said quietly.
"But Bam, I helped you! I came down into the dark to see you every day!-"
"That was then...this is now. Things have changed. You should know that," he replied while looking down.
A sudden crash in the office interrupted all of them from their little conversation. Endorsi groaned before slowly standing up, holding onto her left arm. She was wounded and bleeding.
"Rachel, let's go. There's no reason for us to stay here any more," said the demon.
"...okay."
Rachel pushed past Bam and escaped with the demon. No one bothered to stop them as they jumped through the window. Everything went quiet...
"So Endorsi, what was the demon's strength like?" Khun asked, breaking the silence.
"Nothing that I've ever faced before...but that doesn't mean I can't defeat her!"
"Khun, what did you mean (Y/n)'s my sister?" asked Bam.
"Well, I heard that from Rachel so I'm not sure what's going on. It seems like both you and (Y/n) have had your memories removed or at least altered so that you two wouldn't remember any of your past."
"Why?...why would someone do that?"
"I don't know."
Khun told the both of them what Rachel had told him. Bam and Endorsi listened carefully. The things that Khun told them made sense but in a way, confused them.
"Oh, that reminds me, the demon thing also said some weird things," Endorsi exclaimed.
"What did she say?"
"Something about (Y/n)'s mother mistreating her. I don't think (Y/n) gained the demon by herself. I think her mother might've done something bad in the past but instead, pushed the punishment onto (Y/n). But then, it could be interpreted differently. I mean, what kind of parent would like their child to be possessed?"
"But...why would our mother do that to (Y/n)? Was she always unloved and unwanted?..." Bam asked no one in particular.
"Bam..."
~Some time later~
Khun had gone back home and was lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. He was thinking about (Y/n). He was thinking about all the moments they had spent together.
Damn it, I should've made (Y/n) mine before any of this happened. The thought that she may never come back to me is making me filled with regret. I should've realised how I felt earlier even if it meant I had to die by the hands of the devil, Khun thought to himself.
Meanwhile, at Ran's college, a large crowd had gathered to watch the match. It was a test of physical strength and power. The whole thing was like an obstacle course.
"Hey Ran, why do you look so worried? Did something happen to that girlfriend of yours? Are you gonna go crying to her?" Daniel mocked.
"Shut up, you moron," Ran said with a glare.
"Why? Did I say something I wasn't supposed to? Scared I'll beat you in today's match? Worried about your reputation?"
"Are you looking for a fight?"
"What if I am?"
The two glared daggers at each other, while dangerously strong auras surrounded their bodies.
To be honest, Ran had heard about what happened to (Y/n). He was too worried about her to concentrate on this match. But if he didn't win this, then he'd become Daniel's 'little pet' for the rest of his college life.
