Chapter Twenty
When we arrived at the camp of the Migimites, were were thrown to the ground and locked in a cell, stripped of our weapons. Thalia paced angrily, her wrist bare without her signature bracelet. Luke watched her, and I could see in his eyes the desperation to comfort her.
Hazel and Frank sat quietly in the corner, still recovering from the attack. It had taken us all by surprise, and I vowed to never let it happen again. If we got out of the prison, that was.
Annabeth was drawing in the dirt in the ground, mapping out possibilities of the prophecy. Jason and Piper sat besides her, the three of them working aimlessly. Nothing they could do would stop what was to come. The two deaths that were foretold by the fates.
Leo and Clarisse were running crazily around our cell, looking for ways to escape. I stood, in the middle of it all, wondering how I had managed to fail so badly.
"One shall go north, the Titan's bane, and the others will follow, ones from the quest of fame.
The reborn will find themselves in a world of pain, yet two others will perish from the black reign. Lieutenant of Artemis stands alone, and the daughter of Ares will bring the victory home." Annabeth sighed, reciting the prophecy. "What did we miss? Who is about to perish?"
"I have a feeling." I said softly, walking up to the group of three and sitting down next to Jason. "Hear me out. Two others will perish from the black reign. It could be any of us, and yet, I feel like it isn't. What if it's not someone we chose to come on the quest? Think about it. We know that it can't be Thalia or Clarisse. It's unlikely that it's me or Luke, seeing as we both fit other roles. That leaves the rest of the Seven, and what would make two of you perish? We're trapped in this cell, they've shown no signs that they're going to kills us. At least not directly. From the way the migimites have acted, we're going to rot and die here. I've seen them do it before, they enjoy having the captives. That brings me back to my original point. Who wanted to come on the quest but wasn't selected? Will. And if Will came, Nico would come. Two. They're not here in this cell, but I did sense a presence before. It could've been them, concealed in the shadows." I swallowed, stopping as the information sank in.
Annabeth's eyes widened. "Hazel! Hazel!" She cried, scrambling over to the girl and beginning to speak rapidly about being able to sense Nico and possibly forcing him out of the shadows.
"What? Nico? Why would he be here?" Hazel asked confusedly, rising to her feet. Frank walked over to me, and I quickly explained everything.
"Why would they kill Will and Nico? You just said yourself that they don't kill captives." Frank's brow furrowed, and Hazel let out a wail.
"It's Nico, he'll try to rescue us. They'll attack him and Will and it's only two of them and oh! He's so stupid, why would he come after!" Hazel began to cry, and both Frank and Piper rushed over to comfort her.
"Do we know for sure that it's them?" Leo asked. Everyone had formed a circle, our backs blocking any cameras from viewing our conversations. "And aren't they immortal anyways?"
"They may be immortal, but remember Kronos. They could be trapped in Tartarus, Nico's already been there once. What do you think it would do to him to be there again?" Jason sighed, raking a hand down his face. "What can we do, Percy?"
Everyone looked to me, and I quickly found myself uncomfortable.
"I-I don't know." I admitted. Unless Hazel can contact him, or anyone else really, we're stuck in here. We just have to hope for the best. I'm sorry, I've failed you all."
"You haven't failed anyone, Percy." Luke rested his hand on my shoulder. "So don't worry. We'll figure this out. We're the smartest minds, all trapped together in a really stinky, tiny cell. Desperation motivates us, and we'll get out of this."
"Yes we will." Annabeth suddenly smiled. "Percy, what's this cell made of? Can you break out of it?"
"I have no idea. By myself, I can't get out. But if everyone struck the same area at the same time, we could get somewhere." I paused, realizing Annabeth's idea. "We need a distraction."
"On it." Leo called. "Clarisse, come help me. I could use your strength and scariness."Clarisse rolled her eyes, muttering something that sounded vaguely like twig and fire under her breath.
"Frank, what's the smallest thing you can turn into?" I asked. Frank shrugged.
"Smallest animal you can think of. Insect, lizard, anything."
"A beetle would be fine. Try to find a weak spot in the walls, anywhere where you think would be easiest to blow through. Hazel, see if from there you can sense Nico. If you can't, it's okay, we're going to still go through with this. Jason, Thalia, you two can get lightning from in here, right?"
"I guess we'll find out." Thalia grinned. "We'll help Frank and Hazel." She and Jason walked over to the couple, and I turned to face Annabeth, Luke and Piper.
"Piper, be on the look out to charmspeak any migimites guards. They may not be human or demigod, but it should still work. Worst case scenario, put them to sleep. Annabeth, Luke, you're with me. We're going to figure out the escape plan."
"Are you sure this will work?" Luke asked nervously. "There's a lot of things that could go wrong."
"There are always a lot of things that could go wrong." Annabeth interrupted. "It's what goes right that matters."
