Chapter Sixteen
At 5:30 in the morning, we regrouped at the Big House.
Most of the counsellors were half asleep, and the Morpheus cabin counselor, who I had learned was named Evan, was being dragged by Will Solace and Jason Grace.
Once we had settled down in our seats, Clarisse banged her hand down on the table. "Alright Prissy, we need a prophecy." She barked. I groaned.
"Fine. I'll fetch Rachel, if she's still around..." I grumbled.
"Yeah, the gods made her the immortal oracle." Piper said. I nodded, standing up and pushing in my chair.
"Cool. I'll be right back, then." I said, and walked out of the Big House. I broke into a light jog after clambering down the porch steps, and passed a few wandering campers, who probably woke up early to train.
As I reached Rachel's cave, I could hear her muttering inside, just past the purple curtains. Knocking loudly on the rock, the curtains opened, and I was met by the frizzy red hair of Rachel Elizabeth Dare.
"Percy!" She exclaimed, suddenly awake. Her green eyes seemed to glow, and behind her, I could see the paints and canvases laying discarded around the room.
"Hey Rachel. We need a prophecy from you." I said bluntly. Rachel nodded, adjusting the hem of her marker-covered jeans.
"Sure. Lead the way, Perce. Unless you just want me to spit it out here?" She asked. I shrugged.
"I don't even know if they trust me anymore. They could think I was lying. I think it'd be best if you came with." I pointed out. She nodded again.
"Coolio." Rachel replied, and pushed her way past me and into the gloomy morning air.
We walked back to the Big House in silence, each of us pondering something different. I personally was worrying about what the prophecy could say. Rachel was probably planning her next painting, or dressed/ covered-in-gold-get-together thingy.
"Ah, Rachel. I assume Percy told you why we needed your assistance?" Chiron asked as we reentered the room.
"Yeah. You need me to paint the cabins into a huge mural reflecting how awesome ponies are, right?" Rachel asked. Chiron chuckled.
"Maybe later, but yes, we need a prophecy." He said. Thalia yawned.
"Well, get on with it." Clarisse snapped. Her bandana was lopsided, and there were dark bags underneath her eyes, signaling to me that she hadn't been sleeping.
"As you wish." Rachel said, and by her smirk, I had a feeling that there was a double meaning behind her words, and they sounded familiar, but I couldn't quite place it. (The Princess Bride anyone? No? Okay....)
Rachel suddenly stood rigid, and her eyes glowed green. Well, greener. Smoke billowed out of her mouth, and spirit of Delphi began to speak.
"Approach, seeker, and ask." Rachel green smoke-talked.
"How can we find and destroy the Migimites?" I asked.
The green smoke billowed out and filled the room. I saw an image of Chaos, a younger looking Chaos, battling with another female figure. The other figure had straight black hair, and pale white skin. Their eyes were a pit of darkness, devoid of any emotion. They fought hard with swords, vibrating with power. Chaos, and Order. This was it. The moment when Chaos defeated her older sister.
Chaos' mouth opened. "One shall go north, the Titan's bane."
It was Order's turn to speak, and her head swiveled to face me as she parried a strike from Chaos. "And the others will follow, ones from the quest of fame."
Chaos pressed her sword to Order's neck, drawing black blood. "The reborn will find themselves in a world of pain."
Order's face was scrunched up in frustration. "Yet two others will perish from the black reign."
"Lieutenant of Artemis stands alone."
"And the daughter of Ares will bring the victory home."
The smoke rippled, and the image was gone. Rachel swayed from side to side, and I rushed forward to catch her before she toppled over. Chiron was staring at me.
"Percy, what did you see?" He asked, almost as if he knew that I'd seen the final battle between Chaos and Order.
"I saw Chaos and Order, fighting." I said. He nodded.
"Just as I suspected. Did you get the prophecy?" He asked. I stared at him, flabbergasted.
"You didn't hear it?" I asked, confused. He shook his head.
"Yeah, it's weird." Jason noted.
"Huh. Well, I got it." I said, then realized they were waiting for me to repeat it.
"One shall go north, the Titan's bane.
And the others will follow, ones from the quest of fame.
The reborn will find themselves in a world of pain.
Yet two others will perish from the black reign.
Lieutenant of Artemis stands alone.
And the daughter of Ares will bring the victory home."
"The first line is obvious." Annabeth said. "Titan's bane, that's you, Percy." She said. I nodded in agreement.
"Yeah. The second line probably means the Seven." I suggested.
"Hazel and Frank are still at Camp Jupiter. Do they even know you're alive?" Piper asked. I shook my head.
"No, I haven't contacted them." I said, a sudden wave of guilt washing over me. They'd stuck by me. They'd been attending Frank's grandmother's funeral at the time, which had been held by their old house. So they hadn't known of Annabeth's betrayal and hadn't believed it either.
"We should IM them after this." Leo said. I nodded.
"What about us, Percy?" Nico asked. I shrugged.
"I have no idea, Death Breath. I mean, you could pull a me, and sneak after us, but it doesn't mention you at all in the prophecy." I shrugged. Thalia bit her lip.
"Lieutenant of Artemis stands alone." She said softly. "That means me, for sure." I nodded.
"And daughter of Ares. There ain't nobody else." Clarisse said proudly.
"So it's settled? Thalia, Clarisse, and the Seven will go in one or two groups, while I travel alone?" I confirmed.
"I would assume so." Will said. He glanced at Nico. "So we just stay here and defend the camp?" He asked. I could tell by his voice that he felt a little left out.
"Yeah." I said.
"Sleep..." Evan mumbled, and began to snore.
We all stood up, and I began to walk over to the door when Annabeth's voice rang out.
"Wait. What about that one line. The reborn will find themselves in a world of pain? Percy, your name translates to reborn. It would be you, right?" She asked.
"It could be me. But we don't know, someone else could come back to life randomly. Like, seriously, I could open this door and Luke Castellan could be lying face first in a puddle of mud." I shrugged.
Annabeth laughed, and a wave of pain shot through my heart. I knew that I still had lingering feelings for her, I could never truly forget my first love. But I'd moved on. I had to move on.
"The chances of that are 1,000 to 1." She said, and I grinned half-heartedly. Thalia managed a small chuckle.
"Yeah. Oh well, I'm gonna go patrol the borders." I said, and walked out of the room.
"Holy shit." I swore, when I stepped out onto the porch. It had been somehow raining, the dirt was mud.
"What is it, Kelp Head?" Thalia asked. Then she swore too.
"I think you should be the new Oracle, Perce." She managed weakly.
"Oh yeah." I breathed. By now the other counsellors were beginning to crowd around us. Annabeth let out a muffled sob.
Because laying on the dirt, face first in a puddle of mud, just as I had predicted, was a tall boy with sandy blonde hair.
Luke Castellan. Chaos, the Fates are cruel.
