Chapter Seventeen

"So you're telling me that you predicted all of this as a joke, and it still happened?" I asked, dumbfounded. I was sitting on a stool in my cave, facing a tried looking Percy Jackson.

"Yup." He said meekly. I inhaled sharply.

"Wow." I chuckled weakly. "You really should be the Oracle." I joked. Percy cracked a small smile.

"I think the job suits you better. But seriously, Rachel, what does this mean? It's pretty clear now that he and I are both the reborn, and that we both are going to suffer." Percy said, running a hand through his already messy hair.

"Percy, I don't know what to say. I'm not seeing anything right now. But I can almost sense that you're right. Remember when I told you that you weren't going to be the hero? You still aren't. The decisions of this war are made by you, but you aren't the real hero here. I can't tell who it will be, maybe there won't be a hero. But I do know that if we don't win this war, the world is going to change forever. And nothing will ever be the same again."

:|Artemis' POV|:

As soon as Thalia finished explaining to me the prophecy, and the Hermes spawn's sudden appearance, my hands balled into fists and I stomped to the door.

"Absolutely not. You are not going on this quest, Lieutenant Grace, and neither is Percy, but I'll deal with him later." I barked. Thalia's eyes narrowed and she flinched at the use of her disliked last name.

"Don't call me that, Lady Artemis." She spat. Normally, I would've blasted anyone else to smithereens if they'd talked to me with that tone, but it was Thalia.

"I will call you what I wish, Lieutenant Grace. Don't forget who the goddess is here." I growled. Thalia looked shocked. Then she sneered.

"Well, I thought you were different, Artemis." She paused. "But I guess I was wrong. You're just as egocentric as the other Olympians." Thalia said. A wave of pain shot through my heart.

"No, I didn't mean it like that! Thalia! Wait!" I cried, as she pushed me aside and strode out the door, leaving behind her bow and quiver.

"Yeah right, Lady Artemis. You totally didn't mean it like that. You don't even believe in me, that's why you won't let me go on this quest. You don't have any faith in me! You've been paranoid since Zoë died, you won't let the Hunt do anything relatively dangerous!" Thalia yelled over her shoulder. I fell to the wall, clutching it for support. She was right. I was paranoid.

"It's because I can't loose another huntress!" I shouted after her retreating form. My voice cracked on the last few words. I couldn't. It was true. I wouldn't be able to bear the guilt. The guilt of knowing I could've prevented the death.

"You and your excuses! Maybe I should just give up my position in the Hunt. Then, you'd have no control over me!" Thalia roared, turning around to face me. Her blue eyes pierced holes through my skin, and I suddenly found a patch of dandelions very interesting.

"No." I whispered. "I don't want you to leave the Hunt. If you have to go on this quest, so be it. But please, please be careful. I can't interfere with it, I wouldn't be able to save you if you got hurt." I pleaded. Thalia's angry expression disappeared, and she ran forward, embracing me in a tight hug. We'd grown closer over the last months, and we'd actually developed a sisterly bond. It was such a relief to have a female sibling, rather then my idiot twin, Apollo.

"I promise, Artemis. I swear it on the River Styx."

:|Percy's POV|:

I walked out of Rachel's cave, planning on going to see Artemis, but when I heard her having a yelling match with Thalia, I quickly changed courses and walked towards the fireworks beach.

I'd Iris-Messaged Frank and Hazel during the morning, and they'd been overjoyed to see me, fretting me with the usual death threats and tears of joy.

"Hey Perce! Wanna play a game?" Jason shouted from behind a volleyball net. I shrugged.

"It'll be fun! Besides, we are all awful at volleyball, so it's hilarious." Piper added helpfully. I cracked a smile.

"I'm in."

:|Leo's POV|:

My first thought as I entered the Hephaestus cabin was: Hmm it smells like burnt popcorn in here. I wonder if they made me any... Buttery popcorn is good with skittles.

Then, being the ever-so-smart-amazing-McShizzle-Bad-Boy-Supreme, a sudden thought occurred to me. The Hephaestus cabin didn't make popcorn, because we always burned it. So, I came to the conclusion that my cabin was on fire.

"Leo! Where in the name of Hades have you been?!" Nyssa shrieked, running up to me, the edges of her hair more singed then usual. "No time to explain!" She added, shoving me towards open flame. "Go, go, go!"

"Thanks for your love, hermana!" I yelled, and dashed through the white hot flames. I knew from experience that since I was fireproof, I was the one that had to make it to the back of the cabin, and explode the fire extinguisher, in order to fully extinguish all of the flames.

"Hephaestus' holy hamburgers, what exploded this time?" I muttered to myself as I quickly made my way through melted scraps of metal, biting my lip as I noticed some of my ruined projects.

After relentless burning metal dodging, I grabbed the red fire extinguisher, shook it, twisted the nozzle a few times, hung it upside down for five seconds and.....

The world was covered in white! Hey, was that a siren in the distance? Or was it just Will screaming, or whistling, or whatever that weird super cool thing he could do was?

"OH MY GODS THAT WAS AMAZING!" The Stolls could be heard outside the cabin. I almost cracked up, but if I opened my mouth, I would eat fire extinguisher goop, and that was not listed on my strict diet created by Team Leo Staff.

As I emerged from the wreckage of my cabin, Annabeth brushed ashes off of my shoulder. "Tsk tsk, Leo. You couldn't even keep it standing for a week." She scolded. I smiled sheepishly.

"At least time it wasn't me!" I said cheerfully, and her gaze narrowed.

"True, but I'm warning you Valdez. If I have to redesign and rebuild the Hephaestus cabin one more time this year, I will personally strangle you, then raise you from the dead and do it again." Annabeth said sharply, and once again, I vowed to never think of blondes as stupid again. Man, that lady needed a chill pill. Her eyes were so cold and harsh.

"Point taken, Ms. Chase. Oh look at the time, I'd better find Calypso and tell her I'm going on a quest, hoorah!" I said awkwardly, and skedaddled.

Can we all take a moment and agree that this is amazing? This taco deserves to be a god. It's immortal, too. Sorry for the crappy filler chapter.
