Chapter Seven
I sat by the Lake once again. It would probably be the last time I saw it, for today the Hunt was moving.
It had been four weeks since I'd revealed my identity to Thalia, and Artemis was still furiously trying to figure out my identity to no success. I had to give it to her, she was persistent.
The sound of a twig snapping jerked me alert, and my finger hovered over the ring I always wore. It was one of my gifts from Chaos, an enchanted ring. It was sort of like Thalia's earnings, which I was happy she now wore. You simply twisted it, and any weapon would appear. The weapons were always made up of every material available, so the user could kill anything. My favorite bow came from the ring, and the user pulled back the string and any number of arrows would appear, ready to fly.
With narrowed eyes I scanned the area, before catching a glimpse of silvery eyes. Artemis. I sighed.
"M'Lady, you may come out." I said wearily. From behind a tree, a blushing goddess walked out, muttering furiously to herself.
"Guardian. Have you packed your belongings? We leave for Camp Half-Blood in an hour." She said, trying to cover up her blush.
I froze. Camp Half-Blood? Thalia didn't tell me we were going there. Water from the lake began to rise, and the earth began to shake. I fought back my emotions quickly, hoping Artemis didn't notice.
To my displeasure, her eyes narrowed. "How did you do that?" She questioned.
"Chaos blessed me. I control all elements and powers to a small portion." I said, shrugging. It wasn't a lie. If possible her eyes narrowed even further.
"I can tell that you're not lying about that. But even with Chaos' blessing, you shouldn't be able to control those powers to that amount. Only a son of Poseidon...." She trailed off, eyes widening.
"What is is M'Lady?" I asked frantically, praying to the fates that she hadn't guessed who I was.
"Take down your hood and summon me fire." She demanded. Biting my lip, and emotions running through me, I summoned a flicker of white hot fire on my palm. I didn't remove my hood.
"I said take off your hood." She hissed.
"No." I retorted. "That is my final answer. we've been through this before, please. Stop." I begged.
"Very well. But I will find out who you are. Why won't you remove your hood? Are you afraid?" She challenged, her silver eyes narrowed to slits.
"Wouldn't you like to know." I muttered under my breath. I spoke louder. "That informations belongs to myself, and myself only. My sincerest apologizes, M'Lady.''
Artemis huffed and flushed. I inwardly groaned. Sometimes I wished I still was hanging in the Fields of Punishment, in this case, it was preferable to the goddess's pestering.
"Why can't you drop the topic, M'Lady?" I asked tiredly. She sighed and sat down beside me, much to my discomfort.
"Anagenniménos, something has been greatly troubling me." She spoke. I was about to ask what, but she cut me off. "You. Everything about you, your secrets, your behavior, everything. It would just be easier for my hunters and I to accept you into the Hunt if we actually knew you. The real you. Not some masked assassin-like figure." She sighed again.
I hugged my knees to my chest. "M'Lady. My past...has not been that great. I'm not ready, honestly, to do this. I didn't ask to be chosen as the guardian. Chaos just randomly selected me. I didn't ask for all of this. The fates are cruel. On top of everything, I'm just not ready to face the gods again. You hate me, Lady Artemis. You have in the past, and you will in the present. I'm no hero, not solider with a heart of gold, a heart of steel. I'm just a broken pawn of the gods. You included." I whispered sadly, a lone tears trickling down from my sunken eyes.
Artemis pondered this for a moment. "Very well then, Anagenniménos. I'm sorry for rushing you into things. I believe I have a solution. I have never seen you fight before, so we shall duel!" She announced. I sighed.
"If I win?" I asked politely.
"I'll stop pestering you. If I win, you will reveal your identity to me. Is that clear?" She said, smiling.
"I swear on the River Styx to abide by your terms, M'Lady." I swore, and thunder rumbled, sealing my oath.
"Good! Meet me in the training arena in ten minutes. Gather the Hunters. They will want to see this." She said, before flashing out in a puff of silver.
Groaning, I got to my feet and sprinted to the archery range tent. There were four enchanted tents in the Hunt. Each expanded inside, giving plenty of room for the hunt. There was one for the dinning hall, the arena, the archery range, and the animals tent.
I figured that the Hunt would mostly be in here, and I was right. They were all there except for Thalia, who was probably with the wolves.
"Clare!" I shouted, and she turned to face me, an annoyed expression on her face. Her white hair was pulled back into a messy bun, and a blue bandana was wrapped around her head. She was wearing a ripped silver tank, with an army jacket similar to Leo's, currently wrapped around her waist. She asks wore black jeans, cut off from the knees down.
"What is is, Anagenniménos?" The daughter of Hecate complained. Hannah glared at me. I sighed.
"Lady Artemis instructed me to invite you to the arena for a duel between her and myself." I said calmly, hand hovering over my ring. Clare snorted.
"Wouldn't miss it for Gae-"
"Names have power!" Jordan, daughter of Aphrodite, squeaked. I nodded.
"I don't give a da-" Clare retorted, but Adeline, daughter of Ares cut her off.
"Shut up and stop acting like children. Let's move out!" She exclaimed, scolding the younger immortal huntress.
Clare rolled her eyes but followed Adeline out the door, followed shortly by Jordan.
I made sure I had gather every Hunter from the room as they passed.
Atalanta, a mortal names after the Greek myth, blessed by both Apollo and Artemis for skills in their domains, technically a demigod. Check.
Hannah, daughter of Iris. Check.
Sophie, daughter of Hermes. Check.
Elena, daughter of Athena. Check.
Eleanor, daughter of Morpheus. Check.
Selene, daughter of Apollo. Check.
Senna, daughter of Ares. Check.
Erin, daughter of Hermes. Check.
Jessica, daughter of Hephaestus. Check.
Anna, daughter of Dionysus. Check.
I quickly followed them out, stopping to grab Thalia from the wolf tent next door.
Soon we were in the arena tent, and I stood in the center, awaiting the silver eyes moon goddess.
There was a sudden flags of silver light, and Artemis solidified before me, smiling evilly at me.
"Thalia, you judge this." She ordered, drawing two hunting knives. I stood clay, weaponless.
"Alright. Powers allowed, maiming, but no killing." Thalia announced. "Let the fight begin!" She cried, stepping back.
Artemis and I circled each other, neither making a move. Finally, in a flash of silver, she darted towards me, and I twisted my ring, my own set of knives appearing.
I quickly blocked all of her strikes, managing to land a few cuts on her, while she did no damage to me. Her silver eyes narrowed.
"Alright then, Anagenniménos. I'll stop taking it easy on you." She hissed. I inwardly chuckled, I wasn't even trying!
She shot a beam of pure energy at me, and I caught in my outstretched palm, absorbing some of her power. I nearly laughed at her shocked expression, but kept it in.
She growled, and launched a flurry of attacks at me, skillfully and quicker than the eye could see. Thankfully, my eyes could see. I blocked all of her strikes again, and counter attacked, backing her up against a wall.
In a matter of seconds, my knife was at her throat, her silver orbs wide with shock and fear. All of the Hunters were open mouthed, gaping at the defeated goddess.
"I believe I win." I said calmly, removing my knife from her neck, and stepping back.
"Yes, I will abide by our terms, Anagenniménos." She gulped, swallowing her pride, something I was amazed at.
"Good to hear it, M'Lady." I called over my shoulder as I jogged away to pack my few belongings, ready to face my old home.
Camp Half-Blood.
