Chapter 46: Home
Aria has been humming the same tune for what seemed like eternity, when they finally made it out of the maze. Aria stops humming when she noticed the now stone void seemed to stretch on for eternity.
"What now?" Aria asks.
"Now, we wait," the ghost replies.
"Wait for-"
Aria stops and turns when a vortex suddenly opens in front of them, a familiar person jumps through looking exhausted. Reika tilts her head as Aria stares at the person.
"Oh great," Aria says disappointingly "My brother's here, now I'm definitely in hell."
"Idiot," Zero lifts his head to look at her. "That's the first thing you have to say to me! Do you know how hard it was to open a portal to the underworld?!"
"No, that's your job," Aria replies with a monotone voice before smiling. "Well, you did actually come to get me. I knew you weren't good for nothing."
"Thanks sis, really feeling the love." Zero replies sarcastically before smiling slightly. "Good to see you're still yourself."
"You sure this guy's your brother?" Reika whispers. "He doesn't look anything like you."
"He is indeed," Aria replies. "I can remember that much."
"If you're all set to leave, then my work here is done." The ghost says as he turns around. "I wish you the best of luck."
Aria stares at the ghost as Zero puts a hand on her shoulder.
"We need to hurry, the city's under attack!" Zero tells her.
"Right," Aria agrees as she turns to Reika. "When we go back, we should both return to our bodies. Do you remember where you are?"
"Mhm," Reika nods. "I'm.." She looks up "Actually, they might've moved my body. I have no idea."
"Well, when you return to your body, make your way to my apartment." Aria tells her "I'll wait for you there."
"Don't you gotta save the world or something?" Reika asks.
"Yes, but I want to make sure you're safe before anything else." Aria replies "The boys will hold out without me for now."
"Uh, well I think the city's under siege right now." Zero tells them "It'd be really bad timing for you to try to make your way through the city."
"Well, since when did I need your permission to do anything?" Aria turns to him.
"You never listen to me anyway," Zero grumbles.
"So, it's settled," Aria turns back to Reika. "I'll see you there, okay?"
"Okay," Reika nods.
"If you're done now, we need to go!" Zero points to the closing vortex.
Aria nods, the three head to the vortex back to the living world. Reika jumps through first, followed by Zero, Aria pauses and turns back to the ghost who had almost turned the corner in the maze.
"Hey Morro!" Aria calls out.
The ghost turns his head around to look at her, his eyes widened with a look of surprise on his face.
"...thank you," Aria smiles slightly. "And I'm sorry."
With that, Aria jumped through the vortex, and it closes behind her. Morro chuckles before smiling slightly.
"You silly girl," Morro turns around and continues through the maze. "I forgave you a long time ago."
Aria sat up in her body and took a gasp of breath. Zero stood beside her bed with Mistake.
"You got her," Mistake says surprised before muttering. "I didn't think that'd actually work."
"What did you just say?" Zero turns to Mistake.
Aria jumped out of bed and ran out of the room.
"Hey, Aria!" Zero calls out.
"Off already," Mistake sighs. "Honestly, that girl just can't sit still."
Aria made her way through the city, dodging any crystal warriors roaming the streets. The city was chaos, and people were hiding in fear. Aria was ignoring the big and obvious presence she sensed in the sky. She finally made it to her run-down apartment building and ran up to her apartment.
Like promised, Reika was waiting inside the room for her. She was staring out the window at the attacking city.
"Reika!" Aria ran over to her.
Reika turned around only to be tackled in a hug by the idol. Reika got tears in her eyes as she hugged Aria back.
"So," Aria steps back "Where was your body?"
"They dumped me in a trash can," Reika replies with a laugh. "It's comedic actually, it's where trash belongs."
Aria smacks her over the head and Reika laughs more while rubbing her head.
"Honestly," Aria sighs. "You're such a pain."
"Yes," Reika replies with a smile. "And yet, you still brought me back."
"It's not exactly easy to bring the dead back," Aria says. "You're lucky you weren't dead yet when we found you. Or you would've been a ghost in the living world."
"Wha-" Reika stares at her in shock. "So, I'd be a ghost right now if I was really dead?!"
"Mhm," Aria nods. "But still," She smiles slightly "At least you would've been able to say goodbye to your family."
"..." Reika was speechless before looking back out at the city. "The ninja were taken down..."
"Heh?" Aria tilts her head.
"It happened not long before you got here," Reika tells her. "I watched the Bounty get shot down by your father."
"Eh," Aria shrugs. "I'm sure they're fine."
Reika lets out another laugh "You really are... unapologetically yourself, aren't you?"
"Yeah," Aria replies nonchalantly "Does that make me any less your idol?"
"Nope," Reika replies with a big smile. "You're perfect just the way you are."
"I hope you still think that after today," Aria tells her before heading to the door.
"Wait, where are you going?" Reika asks worriedly.
"Where else?" Aria turns back to her with a smirk "To put an old man in his place."
