Chapter 2: Rebooted
Since Aria's debut concert, her fame has exploded. There wasn't anywhere in Ninjago City where you didn't see her face. Even Borg took an interest in making technology suited to her concerts.
"How did the concert go?" Borg asks excitedly.
Aria walked into Borg's office with a smile "It went amazing, the lighting was perfect. It changed colors exactly when I moved, I'm impressed you could make it automatic like that."
"Something like that is easy for me," Borg replies looking proud "just wait till you see what I'm working on for your next concert- Oh I'll go get it!"
Aria watches him leave the room before walking over to the large computer in the room. She slipped a hard drive out of her bag before placing the chip on the motherboard. The sound of the door opening echoed through the room as she put her hands behind her back and smiled to Borg as he entered.
"This is what I'm thinking," Borg shows her a device "the screens are nice for the people to see in the back sure. What's better though, is a giant projection!"
"A giant projection?" Aria questions as she looks at the device.
"Once it's finished, all we have to do is scan you before the show and put it on stage." Borg explains "it'll be bigger than you could dream of. Half the city will see it!"
"Oh wow!" Aria looks pleased "You're amazing Borg."
"Oh, hehe, it's nothing." Borg replies with a chuckle "I'm honored to be such a help to the star who brings so much joy to the people."
"Anything to help," Aria responds as she heads towards the door "I best get going, I have a song I need to record."
"Oh yes, busy busy." Borg nods "Have save travels."
"Thanks," Aria calls over her shoulder before exiting the room.
Aria began to hum to herself as she went down the stairs, the echoes of shouts could be heard behind her as she walked. Around her, the technology began to turn a bright red color before turning back to blue. She exited Borg Industries and stretched her arms as the doors closed behind her.
"Now," Aria began to walk to the studio happily "time to get to work!"
-
Jay sighs in annoyance "All right! Who took my pudding cup? My name was clearly written on it."
"I didn't see "Motor Mouth" on it" Cole says as he finishes the pudding.
"I'm telling the headmaster!" Jay complains.
"Leave me out of it. I'm on break, too" Wu calls out from the next room.
"Relax, Jay, you can have mine" Kai says throwing his to Jay.
"But this isn't cold" Jay whines before Zane flips a switch in his arm and freezes the cup "Oh, give me" he shoves a spoonful in his mouth and smiles "Mm."
"Why is it that when I teach none of the boys are listening?" Nya complains as she walks in.
Jay smiles "Hi, Miss Nya. I saved you some pudding."
"What did we talk about?" Nya questions.
"Oh, right" Jay laughs "Boundaries."
"Oh yeah, did you guys hear the news?" Nya suddenly asks remembering.
The ninja jumped up immediately.
"There's trouble?"
"Danger?"
"An emergency?"
"Oh, a new menace?"
"No. We got clearance for a field trip" Nya says happily and the others groan "Not just any field trip. A field trip to tour Borg Industries."
"Ah! Not the Borg Industries. As in home to super genius reclusive savant Cyrus Borg? Inventor of the hover car and everything else cool in this world?" Jay squeals.
Kai sighs "If you ask me, people should concern themselves with the lessons of the past. Not waste their time on the disposable fads of tomorrow when-"
The next day everyone was boarding the bus.
Brad whines "Why can't we take Ultra Dragon? Or the Ultra Sonic Raider?"
"Because they don't have one of these" Cole says taking the bus mic "Pretty cool, huh? I'm on a microphone. I am the MC. The Mighty Cole"
"Mr. Cole is the worst" Brad says
Cole growled "I heard that"
"So, we really are going back to the city?" Kai questions "We haven't been there since, well, you know."
"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We only have today. Or else this offer expires. Get a move on, Nya" Wu instructed.
"Aye, aye, Sensei" Nya says starting up the bus.
Everyone looked around at the new futuristic Ninjago.
Nya sighs "Wow. You leave town a short while and—Ahh!"
Nya accidentally crashes the bus straight into the postman's hover truck.
"Ugh! Who here still uses wheels anymore? Get with the program!" he shouts
Cole walked out of the bus "Don't worry, we'll free you up. Time for some old-school muscle tool."
A Borg Industries Security Mech arrives "Stand back, pedestrian."
"Who you calling pedestrian?" Cole questions annoyed as the rest of the ninja come out of the bus.
"It appears our help is not welcome" Zane says.
"Well, I prefer traveling the old-fashioned way, on foot. Besides, it's not like we can't find where we're going." Wu points up to Borg Tower.
The group walks towards the building, entering the tower, the group is met by a female bot who approaches them.
"Welcome to Borg Industries." She greets "I'm P.I.X.A.L., Cyrus' Primary Interactive X-ternal Assistant Life-form. I'm sorry to hear about the traffic accident."
"Wow, news travels fast." Kai says
"Everything in New Ninjago City is fully automated and interconnected. Your antiquated bus should be ready shortly" P.I.X.A.L responds before turning to Zane. "You are Zane, a droid like me. What does Zane stand for?"
As the two bots talked, Cole was looking around at the place. His eyes stop when he sees Aria walking down the stairs. He went to say something but was interrupted by one of the kids.
"Hey it's Aria!" Brad shouts.
The kids look over as the idol approached them.
"Hello kids," Aria greets with a smile as she bends down to them, the kids crowding around.
"Woah you're really her!" one of the girl's shouts.
"What are you doing here?!" Another asks excitedly.
"Borg Industries makes a lot of the cool affects you guys see at my concert," Aria explains to them "like that cool projection you saw at my last one."
"Cool!"
"Wow!"
Aria stands up and looks over at Cole, who she noticed was staring at her.
"What is it?" Aria asks.
"Huh, nothing." Cole replies as he shakes his head "You were doing your idol smile..."
"My bad, I didn't think you'd be fazed by something like that." Aria replies with a giggle.
"Hey-" Cole's annoyed tone stopped when he noticed the kids still paying attention to them, he sighed "Never mind."
"Well, I better get going then, I'm very busy," Aria says as she turns to leave, the kids looking upset. Aria stops beside Cole and mutters to him with a smug expression unseen by others "I'm glad you still remember your place at the very least."
Cole grits his teeth and turns to say something, but she is already walking away with her innocent smile on. He turns his head and takes a breath to relax.
"Hey Mr. Cole, how do you know the Idol Aria?!" Brad asks him "She's suuuper famous."
"She's my cousin," Cole replies hiding the annoyance in his voice.
"Woah?!" One of the girls asks looking excitedly "Do you get to go to all her concerts?!"
"I could, but we're not particularly close," Cole tells them as he looks back at the door. "She's really good though."
"I know right!"
The kids began to chatter as Cole turned his attention back to the ninja.
"Mr. Borg would like to see the ninja on the 100th floor." P.I.X.A.L tells them before turning to the kids "If the others would follow me for the rest of the tour."
Cole had a suspicious look on his face as he followed the others up to Borg. Meanwhile, Aria was beside the Borg tower, leaning against it with her arms crossed. Some time passed and the bots all began to slowly turn red.
There was chaos and screaming around her, but she remained in her spot, unnoticed by others.
"You useless child, do something!"
Aria rolled up her sleeve and looked at the digital overlord that was on her watch.
"I did, I brought you here," Aria replies with an innocent smile. "The rest is up to you."
"They have the technoblades!" The digital Overlord shouts at her "That could destroy me!"
"That's not my problem," Aria replies as she looks away.
"What?!" the digital Overlord growls "I'm your father! Show some respect!"
"Lalala," Aria covers her ears. "La- ah!"
Aria jumped as a bot with a screen appeared beside her, the digital Overlord looking annoyed at her.
"Jesus, you didn't have to scare me," Aria says crossing her arms.
"Child, do something." the digital Overlord's screen goes closer to her.
"Do what?" Aria questions, pushing the screen away. "No way, I held up my end of the deal. I've worked so hard to uphold my current image. I'm the city's innocent Idol, who everyone adores. So, thanks, but no thanks."
"What?!" the digital Overlord growls "My entire plan will be destroyed if you don't help me! What's more important, your Idol image, or your father?"
"My Idol image of course," Aria replies as she looks away.
"How dare you?!" The Digital Overlord shouts as bots surround them.
"You think you can threaten me?" Aria questions as her eyes glow purple and she turns back to his screen "If you think you're the scariest thing here, check again father."
"Fine, you were always a disappointment anyway." Digital Overlord tells her spitefully "We will go our separate ways, as we always have."
"Works for me," Aria pushes his screen out of her way. "I did my end of the deal, so you better hold up yours.
"I have," the Digital Overlord says as Aria heads down the ally. "However, you still won't find what you're looking for."
-
The digital Overlord was defeated by the ninja, the people never doubted them. However, Zane was lost in the battle, and they had a memorial made for him. After the people had all left, Aria approached the statue of Zane in the city's park.
She stared up at it, as she heard footsteps behind her. She quickly turned her head, only to see Cole standing there, nobody else was around. Cole stood there silently, watching the emotionless look in Aria's eyes not change.
"...did you have something to do with this?" Cole asks, breaking the silence, a serious look on his face.
"Do with what?" Aria questions, looking away from him.
"This whole thing," Cole says with gritted teeth "and don't pretend you don't know... cause it was your own father who did this, Aria." He tightens his fists "You were there, you were at Borg tower before us... before this all happened..."
"You're right, I was, but I was checking on things for my concert." Aria replies as she looks back at him with a small, innocent smile. "It's not my fault your friend died, so don't put it on me, okay?"
"If I find out you did anything, I will never forgive you." Cole states.
"Ah yes, I'm the bad guy," Aria shakes her head "blame the child for her father's actions."
"I'm not blaming you for anything," Cole tells her "I just don't trust you."
"You don't have to," Aria replies as she walks past him "cause I have thousands of others who do."
Cole turns and watches her leave, before looking back at Zane's statue and mutters "I don't know what to do buddy," he looks down with a sigh "I really don't."
