Chapter 4
Several moons on from that event, Snakefang still wondering why her volume had been the loudest. Probably because she considered Earthberry a friend now, and was proud of her. In the moons that passed, not much had happened. Viperfrost seemed to be the only one who still reminded them of the plan. Snakefang had still not told them what Bristlestar had told her about Kaasuk, but Snakefang's mind was on other things. Addertooth was constantly trying to impress the leader. Snakefang saw Earthberry leave the Warriors Den and seemed to automatically stand. Earthberry noticed her and she walked over. "Hello, Snakefang." Snakefang felt something block the back of her throat.
"Hi, Earthberry," she managed through the lump. "How are you this...." She looked up at the sky. "....afternoon?" Earthberry looked at her.
"Fine."
"That's not very descriptive..." Snakefang said flatly. Earthberry sighed.
"I know, it's just... I-I'm not...uh.... very descriptive.....?" Snakefang gave her look. Earthberry returned the look. "How are you this afternoon?" The question surprised Snakefang.
"I-I've been d-doing g-great! Yeah, Great!"
"That's an odd way to describe it." Snakefang visibly blushed.
"W-well I describe t-things o-oddly." Snakefang felt extremely uncomfortable. And even more uncomfortable with Earthberry around. Whether the lump in her throat was also caused by Earthberry, she didn't know. "A-Anyway, gotta go!" Snakefang walked away, allowing herself to breathe. She just wished her siblings hadn't seen that scene. They had. Viperfrost asked her to go hunting with her, before forcefully dragging her into the forest. A leaf landed on her nose causing her to sneeze. Viperfrost turned to her once they were far away from the camp.
"What was that?!" Viperfrost seemed to scream. Her tail flicked up and down. Viperfrost's expression was indecipherable but it was clearly not anger.
"U-um I don't know....?" Snakefang murmured. Then, the undecipherable expression on her sister's face changed and Viperfrost's green gaze darkened with slyness.
"I understand what's going on now. You're immobilized."
"Immobilized? By what?"
" Remember that story Kaasuk told us when we were kits, about Grayleap?"
"I do, but I don't really see how that applies to me being immobilized by something. What is it?"
"I'll tell you when you grow up."
"Grow up? But I'm already a grown cat." She looked up, to ask Viperfrost what she meant, but....
Viperfrost had disappeared.
