Chapter 3
"Hey Con!" A voice shouted, making Connor almost jump out of his skin. He turned, eyes landing on Jared.
"Where's Ev?" He asked, noticing the lack of the brown-haired boy. Jared looked around.
"Huh. He was following me.... maybe he got caught up in something." Jared's gaze turned back to look at Connor. "So~ I have heard rumors...." Connor groaned.
"I told you, Jared. There's nothing between us."
"Maybe not on your end." Connor blinked. He felt surprised he wanted to learn more.
"What do you mean? I'm just curious," he added quickly, noticing Jared's smirk. He turned and looked down the corridor.
"Can't say. And, besides, they're just rumors." Jared looked back at Connor.
"And... I'm assuming, you made them up?" Jared let out a fake, hurt gasp. Connor rolled his eyes.
"Connor! How could you say that? I would never!" The hurt in his voice was fake too. He knew Jared was faking his hurt. He narrowed his eyes.
"I can tell you're faking Jared, stop it." Jared sighed.
"Fine. But I didn't make the rumors." Jared turned around. "I should get going, see you later." He walked off, and Connor could hear him humming. Connor rolled his eyes.
"Michael, he's gonna catch you staring if you're not careful."
"Gah! Jeremy! You scared me!" Connor turned around and saw the two boys walking toward him. They didn't appear to have noticed him yet.
"Hey, Jeremy and Michael." Connor saw Michael jump slightly. Jeremy snickered.
"And to think, you were that close to him catching you." Michael glared.
"Uh... h-hi Connor," he murmured, turning slightly red. Connor smiled. "I'm still s-sorry about what happened. The w-whole school knows.... so..."
"It's fine. It's annoying sure. How people can take a perfectly.... fine situation and read into things that aren't actually there." Michael smiled slightly. Jeremy whispered something into Michael's ear which made his blush deepen but he didn't speak.
"That's good. I'm annoyed too." Michael got the courage to look up. Their eyes met again. Connor, surprised, felt his face heat up a bit. He looked at the ground. Jeremy's facial expression changed. "I felt so damn embarrassed." Connor laughed.
"You're cute when you're embarrassed," he said, without thinking. Michael's eyes widened. His eyes fell to the floor.
"I think that's our cue to leave," said Jeremy, smirk never failing. He led Michael away. Someone tapped Connor on the shoulder. He turned, facing Jared.
"'Nothing between us' huh?"
"Oh leave it. There IS nothing between us." He was sure of it. "I don't care what the f**king rumors say. There. Is. Nothing."
"Say what you want. That isn't going to make the rumors go away. Not when... I can't say."
"What? What do they say?" He replied curtly.
"I can't tell you. And, I'm not saying anything... but, Connor, you may have a secret admirer."
