Chapter 13
Michael's POV
I awoke the next morning to find Connor sitting on our couch. The same couch we'd cuddled on two days ago, and he appeared to be watching something. He was smiling from what I could see. I then yawned and Connor realized I was there. I wondered when exactly he'd come back yesterday, as I hadn't seen him the entire day. He turned to face me, still smiling. "Oh, hey Mikey," there was a soft tone in his voice. Then Connor seemed to realize and he coughed into his hand. "Uh- I mean, Michael. Haha," he said. If I hadn't been in that state of when you first wake and aren't really processing anything yet as your brain's still changing from it's sleep mode to it's awake mode, I probably would've noticed that Connor wasn't acting like himself at all. The laugh he let out seemed almost awkward, and so did his facial expression. He seemed almost nervous, which, well, I would not have expected that.
I smiled and rubbed my eyes to try and seem more awake. "Oh. Hey there Connie!" I stated, just smiling widely at him, my gaze soft. God, I'm such a fucking goner. When I had those feelings for Jeremy in middle school I don't think they ever felt like this. Or maybe that's just my still-sleepy brain talking. I turned my attention back to Connor. His complexion did nothing to hide the red sheen upon his face. Wait- Connor's blushing. Why is he blushing? I'd hardly think he's embarrassed, it was just a nickname. I just decided to ignore it for now. I walked over to the couch and sat beside him. "What're you watching?"
"TV, I'm not really exactly sure what though," he said, gazing at the TV screen, clearly trying to not look at me. I turned my gaze towards the TV screen and felt myself smirk. I looked at him.
"Oh, I see," was all that I said and it caused Connor to glare at me, but there was no harshness in his eyes and he eventually broke into a smile, laughing slightly. He leaned back on the couch and ran a hand through his hair. He gazed at me.
"Yep, you caught me," he said. "It's Pokémon." He looked back at his legs and I just smiled. I then laughed slightly. Connor smiled at me.
"You like Pokémon," I teased, poking Connor in his arm. "Jokes aside, we should play together sometime. I mean, if you want to fall back into your video gaming days. Because didn't you tell me you don't like video games anymore?" I raised a brow and Connor just laughed. I felt myself smile. Connor just sighed.
"You sure you'd want to play with someone who's quite sucky at video games?" He asked.
"Don't worry about that," I said. "Not everyone is gonna be good at everything right?" I stood up and started putting on a voice. "Oh what's this? Our resident hero Michael Mell appears to have added another to his crime fighting team, one Connor..." I paused. "One Connor, how will this work out? Will this new member help them through all of their battles? Tune in to find out!" Connor burst out laughing so much so that he'd fallen back on the couch.
"Oh my fucking God," he laughed. "You're dramatic." He was just smiling. He was laughing like he was when he saw me watching the Emoji Movie. It felt nice to see him laugh like that, seeing as he'd been so quiet when we first met three weeks ago. Or maybe that was just my feelings that felt that way, I don't know. Connor was looking at me but he didn't say anymore. He sat back up on the couch, still chuckling lightly. He then widened his eyes a bit. "Imagine if there was a video game based off of your life or something? That would be fucking odd wouldn't it? And kinda creepy? Hell, even a musical about your life!"
"I mean, yeah, I guess. Especially if you're still alive. I mean, all the characters in Hamilton have been dead for one hundred plus years, so they probably wouldn't know that they even have a musical about them. And if all those people who died during battles knew about the multiple games based off of that, that were out, they probably wouldn't like it much," I shrugged. "Before you ask, my best friend's like a theatre nerd-" I heard Connor snort "-So, he talks about musicals a lot."
"Oh wow. I mean, my sister's been in a Little Shop school production once but that's about it when it comes to my knowledge on musicals." He laughed slightly and so did I.
"Huh. I guess we're both pretty clueless on the musical front then," I commented and Connor nodded. I scooted closer to him on the couch. "So, who was she?" I asked curiously. Connor looked at the pretty much forgotten about TV.
"If I remember correctly, Audrey." I blinked and Connor just nodded. "Yep, the lead female. She would not shut up about it for weeks." I smiled and just nodded. I then looked away and frowned. Connor noticed this and looked at me. "Michael?"
"Oh um, I was just thinking about if my life was made into a musical. I wouldn't want it to be. Um, it's just because of something that happened in my junior year." Connor blinked.
"Do you want to talk about it?" I nodded.
"Have you ever heard of Super Quantum Unit Intel Processors?"
"Um, what the fuck are those?" I gazed at him and then sighed.
"It's a supercomputer that somehow was made into the form of a digestible pill or something. I'd much rather it be called a fucking parasite. Anyway, that's not really the point. So, junior year. Jeremy told me this, by the way. Rich introduced them to him and he took one. Everything seemed perfectly normal, if not a little weird that he'd been avoiding me. But then there was t-this party..." my voice had started to shake, despite the fact I'd thought I'd be over this by now. Maybe it was like I was reliving it or something. "A p-party that was h-held by J-Jake on Halloween. A-anyway. J-Jeremy and I had a-an argument. I tried to warn h-him about the d-dangers that'd I'd found out from someone I-I play games with. But he j-just blew me off and- and then-." I broke off as the scene replayed itself. Jeremy and I in the bathroom, his tone cold and hard. "My best friend of 12 years, a-at the time of t-the argument, called me a loser." The room was silent after that. I must've looked close to tears as I felt Connor wrap his arms around me and start rubbing my back. I did not expect that at all and I just blinked. After a while, I eventually calmed down.
"Are you feeling okay?" Connor asked softly. I was just staring at him blankly. I didn't really know how to process this, we hugged, sure, but it was just that, too. We hugged. And from what I picked up with living with him for three weeks, I figured that Connor wasn't too big on hugs. We kinda just looked at each other, Connor looking awkward and blushing slightly, cleared flustered by the hug too.
"Y-yeah," I eventually stammered out, Michael.exe finally working again. "I'm good. Don't worry about it, Connie." I then turned back to the TV. "So, do you want to play video games?"
"Uh, okay, sure. Will you go easy on me?" His voice sounded high pitched, as if embarrassed.
"No promises," I winked.
