The Wife of Lot [Translation]
"But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt."
- Genesis 19:26, NKJV
And the saint followed the envoy of God,
Enormous and beaming, across the black hill.
But Disquiet loudly spake to his wife:
Ado, 'tis not late, you may gaze still
At Sodom's red towers
Whence you sang and you wove
At the now empty bower
Whence spirit you clothed.
She gazed, and fused by deathly pain
Her eyes went deaf to painted sound.
Her arms translucent salt became.
And her swift legs grew to the ground.
Who will lament this woman's death?
Is she considered the least of the Loss?
Only my heart will ne'er forget
Her, who for a singular glance took the cross.
