Chapter 31
Yoona's POV
Back and forth. Back and forth.
I watched my feet swinging restlessly. I still hadn't gotten any confirmation and I was getting really nervous. I decided to take a walk before I made myself go crazy.
I stepped out of the building and stood there for few minutes, rocking back and forth on my toes and heels, arms crossed over my chest as I shivered against the cold wind hitting my face.
I took out my phone to make a quick call. "Jihee? Hey! Did you reach home fine?"
"Yes. You can start breathing again!" Jihee retorted.
"Did the cab driver look weird? Like he was capable of kidnapping or murder? Double-lock the doors!" All I heard was Jihee's laughter on the other end.
"Hmph! Laugh all you want! Getting kidnapped or murdered is a completely rational fear that stems from statistically proven data gathered over years of profiling done by smart people like the ones on Criminal Minds! This is why I always ask you to watch it with me. You'll realize how the crazy ones are generally the ones who draw the least attention!" I rambled on.
"They still haven't gotten back to you, have they?" Jihee asked knowing that I tend to go off on random tangents when I am nervous.
"No. Not since the last time I texted you. Which reminds me! You were supposed to text me all the way home! You stopped replying to my messages! You never listen to me!!"
"Yoona, you need to calm down. You must be getting really restless but I am sure it's going to be fine. Let's talk about something else to get your mind off it."
"I couldn't even sit in one place anymore. I was getting too jittery. Anyway. did you tell the boss about the meeting?"
"I can imagine. And, yup, I told him. He was ecstatic! Well, shocked more than ecstatic. I don't think he actually expected us to finish the photo shoots and get the final approval from the client on the album artwork, all well within the deadline."
"Well, we aren't called the Set and Graphic design geniuses for nothing. Geniuses... that sounds weird. Is that a word or did I make it up? Geniu-ii.. is that the plural form..? Geniuses... " It really did sound weird. Genius persons..? The more I thought about it, the weirder it sounded.
"Firstly, we aren't called that. No one calls us that but you. Secondly, wow. You are really losing it. Do you want me to come there? I feel like you are going to have a mental breakdown anytime now."
"Ha.Ha. You are hilarious. Oh! Jihee, I'll call you back, they are calling me! Bye!" I quickly ended the call and answered the call from the front desk.
"Hello, doctor. I am with the patient in Room 805. How is he doing? Is he alright? What happened to him?" I rushed to the doctor waiting near the front desk.
"Ah, yes. Mr. Kim. Are you a relative or his manager? I cannot disclose anything about the patient to anyone else. I hope you understand." The doctor was busy checking off things on his little clipboard.
"No. I am a friend. But can't you just let me know how he's doing? Please!" I begged.
"I am sorry but I really can't. I hope you have contacted his family or someone from his company. Once they arrive, please let the front desk know and I'll come meet them." He walked off, in a hurry without giving me a second glance.
Arrgghh!! All I wanted to know is if he is fine! How hard was it to let me know that?! Should have just pretended to be his manager!
"Yoona..?"
I turned around to find Hoseok rushing towards me. I instantly let out a sigh of relief.
"Oh good, you are here! I quickly pushed him towards the front desk. He quickly filled the necessary form and we were informed to wait for a few minutes.
"Okay, now tell me what happened? You said that he wasn't hurt but what happened?" Hoseok asked as soon as we sat down in the visitor's lounge.
"I had a meeting at your company in the evening and it ran a little later than expected. Everyone had left and I was on my way to the washroom when I crossed your practice room. I heard music playing and I peeped in to see if you all were practicing. But it was only Jin. I was watching him dance when he suddenly dropped down on the floor. I rushed to his side. He was breathing really heavily and trying to sit up. He didn't look okay so I decided to get him checked by a doctor. I was going to look for one of you or your manager but he said that everyone had left. I didn't know what else to do so I got him here. I didn't even realize that he wasn't conscious by the time we reached. Luckily, before he passed out he was able to give you a call. You seem calm considering... Has this happened before?" He looked composed, far more than the nervous wreck that I was.
"No. It hasn't. As long as he isn't hurt, I think he'll be fine. At least I hope so..." He seemed calm but his forehead was creased with tension.
Thankfully, the doctor soon called for Hoseok and I followed him.
"Hello, doctor. I am Jung Hosoek. I work with Seokjin hyung but he's also family. Can you please tell us what happened?" Hoseok said slightly bowing to the doctor.
"We know who you'll are. That's why Mr. Kim was shifted to the private section as soon as one of the residents recognized him. That's also why we couldn't tell Ms. Min here about his condition."
"Oh, you don't have to worry about Yoona, she's family too. So what happened? Can we see him? Is he awake?" Hoseok fired questions as we walked to Jin's room. I was too worried to even fully register Hoseok's remark.
"He's fine. Nothing too serious. He fainted because of dehydration and exhaustion. We administered IV fluids so he should be fine by tomorrow. He's resting now but you can see him. Mr. Jung, I'll need you to sign some papers, so if you could follow me."
Hoseok left with the doctor and I slowly entered Jin's room, careful not to make any noise. He was asleep. He looked like he was fine and I could finally calm my nerves. As I sat down on the chair next to his bed, I saw him shiver slightly. I pulled up the blanket to his chest, tucking him in.
"You really scared the life out of me! Imagine what would have happened if I hadn't been there!" I complained to his sleeping form.
"Let's not imagine that and be thankful that you were there," Hoseok said as he walked into the room.
"How long will he have to stay here?" I asked.
"Until tomorrow. It wasn't anything serious so he wouldn't have to stay long for observation." Hosoek sat on the chair I had vacated.
"Fainting from dehydration and exhaustion sounds pretty serious to me!"
"Yeah, I guess. It isn't unheard of though. It comes with the line of work we are in. It's just surprising that Jin hyung let it happen. Generally, he takes really good care of his health and ours too. But then again, he's going through a tough time."
Hosoek looked at me as he said the last words, almost as if implying something.
