15 | You're my Baze

I opened my eyes when the afternoon sun kissed my cheeks. I saw all the others at a distance doing several things.

Jace was hammering something on the ground, the other was setting up a table, Rose sat on a rock and instructed Jace on something. However, I couldn’t spot Austin.

I got up and realized that Austin covered his jacket over me while I slept. It was a little cold so I wore it and got down the car.

I stretched my arms and walked towards the group.

“Hey, guys, what are you guys doing?” I questioned upon reaching.

“Afternoon, Haze,” Rose said while all the others just looked at me, “We are setting up the tent, ”

“Yeah? Do you even know how to do it?” I questioned her

“Well, I’m trying,” she said gesturing at the manual in her hand

“Alright then, I’ll just help Jake set up the table,” I said walking up to him

We began setting up the table. There were two of them and one was slightly bigger than the other. The bigger one was supposed to have all the food and the smaller one was suppose to have all the beverages.

Jake and I set them all within 10 minutes. When I heard footsteps from behind.

Austin appeared with a small pile of wood.

“What are those for?” I asked

“It’s for the campfire,” he said

“Campfire? We are gonna set up a campfire?” I asked, stunned

“Yup. And we are gonna have a campfire party as well,” Jason replied as he hauled some stuff to the other side

“We’ll have singing, dancing, games and a lot of food,” Jake said from the other end

“It’ll be a lot of fun. You’ll see,” Austin said to me

“Wow, you guys really seemed to have planned everything,” I said

“Well, we do this a lot so there’s nothing new,” Jake said

“Yeah, Austin and I first started out when our parents took us on vacations. We would find our own little spot and party there,” Jason said as he smiled back at the remembrances

“So, who's gonna sing?” Rose asked

“Of course you, love,” Jake replied, flirtatiously

“Whoa, hold it right there, let's not get romantic right away. You guys are gonna have plenty of time for that later,” Jason said as we all giggled

***************

“Baze, c’mon I’ve got to show you something,” Austin murmured to me as he grabbed my hand softly

Without any questions, I followed him. We walked a few minutes in the woods when he finally stopped.

“Is this where you secretly kill me?” I teased him

“Shut up and look over there,” Austin said edging his finger towards the sky.

I looked over and witness the most beautiful sight I could ever imagine, the Sunset. It was breathtaking. All the colors melted in the sky just flawlessly as if they were painted by an artist on a white canvas. I could watch it over and over again for the rest of my life.

“It's beautiful,” I said

“Yeah, it is,” Austin replied looking at me

I looked at him and for a split second, I felt like he was talking about me. But instantly he looked away.

“The sunset... I mean... it's my most precious thing to watch,” he said, hesitantly

“How did you even find this place? It's quite far from the campsite,” I asked

“Well, the main reason I would come on these holidays was to get rid of all worries and detach from the world.

So, whenever we holidayed somewhere I would always look around for a cozy space. This one’s my most favorite and the closest to my heart. I’ve never brought anyone here, not even the boys,” he replied

The intensity in his voice touched my heart. It looked as if he was being himself.

I mean, he wasn’t the normal everyday cool- super handsome-guy but rather just himself. He wasn’t The Austin Moon but just Austin, naive, caring, kind, and down to earth Austin.

“Really? Then why did you get me here?” I managed to ask

He turned his body towards me and took a step closer, “Because you’re not just anyone. You’re Special, You’re my Baze,” he said looking right into eyes.

The depth in his deep blue eyes and the intensity of his voice just got me lost in him. Those words just echoed my ears and my body went numb. I couldn't hear anything. All I could see was his deep blue eyes looking right into mine and that was the most precious moment of my life. I wouldn’t trade the world for it.

Our eye-lock was broken when Austin's phone rang. Just then I had realized that it was real, that everything I just heard and witnessed was real. His words, his gesture, everything was just real.

“Well, we’ve got to go back else everyone will come hunting for us,” he said as he hung up his phone and slid it into his pocket.

“Yeah. Sure,” I said as we took a step to walk back to our camp, “Hey Austin,”

“Yeah?” he asked

“Why?” I asked

“Why what?” he questioned back

“Why am I special to you? Why does a nobody like me mean anything to you?” I managed to ask

“Baze, you’re not a nobody,” he replied as he tugged my hair behind my ear and smiled softly, “You are way more than that. You’re my Baze, just remember that, ”

I smiled back, kinda pleased with his answer, though it wasn’t straight and clear. Well, he’s Austin what else can you expect.

*********
Everyone sat around the campfire, each clenching on to a beverage in their hand.

“Let's play passing the parcel. Whoever has the parcel gets to choose truth or dare,” Rose suggested.

“But that’s truth or dare not passing the parcel,” Jason pointed out.

“No, it’s both. You get to pass the parcel and play truth or dare,” Rose defended

“It doesn’t matter, let's just play,” Jake said

“Of course Jake, “Lets Play”, ” Jason said teasingly moving his index and middle finger up and down

“Shut up,” Jake said as he blushed. Yes, that guy just blushed.

For the parcel part, we chose a pillow and passed it around playing a song on Rose’s phone. And would you know it, the first song that she played was Speechless by Naomi Scoot from the movie Aladdin.

As soon as that song played Austin and I glanced at each other. I was totally embarrassed because it reminded me of the night I was at the after-party and got completely drunk and sang this exact song in Austin’s car.

I knew Austin was thinking of the same night because his expressions turned crooked.

"Isn't that your favorite song baze?" he whispered and winked at me, I just rolled my eyes away.

The song paused at Jason first and he chose truth.

“What is the most embarrassing thing you have on your web history?” Jake asked taking a sip from his beverage.
