Familiar

Even though heavily sweating, Infinite still gave their best in dancing and continued moving to the beat of their music. Hoya’s part came and he swayed his way to the front, his lips perfectly syncing with his recorded voice. He looked around the huge crowd and saw differently colored banners and the fans’ excited faces. Hoya smiled at one fan that held “Hoya is my music” in the air, and she squealed in her place. His eyes suddenly ran over a certain girl that was standing calmly in her place, unlike the others around her that were going crazy. She only had a soft smile and occasionally clapped her hands.

“She looks vaguely familiar…,” Hoya thought as he continued staring at the girl. He heard his part end and stepped away to give the spotlight to the next member. Hoya tried to search for the girl again as he danced from the back, but she seemed to have disappeared from her place.

“For Infinite’s successful performance… Cheers!” their manager raised his glass and the others followed. They were having a victory dinner for winning first place in the live performance. Though already tired, the members still had the energy to tease each other and have fun.

“I’ll just go to the washroom.” Hoya said and stood up. Fortunately, no one else was there. Good God, at least no weird fan boy would come up to him and ask to take a picture with him. In the washroom. How weird does that sound?

He took out his phone to make a short tweet. He chuckled when he saw that Woohyun already made one, and even had an attached picture of him in the restaurant they were currently on.

“That greaseball,” he chuckled. A certain part of the picture caught his eye. On the window behind Woohyun, a girl sitting on the bench outside could be seen. Her back was facing the camera, and her straight black hair flowed down her back perfectly. Her head was slightly turned so part of her face was seen.

“She looks familiar…,” Hoya mumbled for the second time of the day. He suddenly remembered the mysterious girl during their performance, then it rang a bell. The girl in the picture was the same person. Out of nowhere, Hoya dashed out of the restroom and ran past the group. He went straight to the street outside and immediately looked for the girl. There was no one there, much to his disappointment.

“Wait,” he paused. “Why am I even bothering myself with this? She just might be a fan girl I met in a certain fan meet or sign event… Why do I have to chase her around?”

He was puzzled, too. Strangely, this girl had that mysterious aura that made him curious. Plus, her face was too familiar. It was kind of strange for Hoya to remember the face of someone he talked to just for a minute or two. Shrugging, Hoya went back to the group, but his curiosity was bugging him so much that his brows remained furrowed.

“Hyung, what’s wrong?” Sungjong asked. Hoya hesitated if he should tell, but decided to keep it to himself for a while. He forced out a smile.

“Nothing.”

“Aigoo I’m so bored!” Woohyun whined as he rolled on the floor for the millionth time. The other members just sighed. Their manager told them to rest and didn’t let them go out to play or do whatever tiring things they could think of.

“Boys, stay here in the dorm and rest. Don’t sneak out and go to the Amusement park or play pool or videogames or even karaoke. I have all of my eyes on you.” He precisely had said, tapping his glasses for emphasis.

“Hoya, Sunggyu, come here you two.” Their manager appeared out of nowhere. “You two go out and buy food for the others.”

“Why do they get to go out and not us? Unfair!” Sungyeol whined.

“Because they think maturely and don’t have an obsession in amusement parks.” The manager said in monotone, and the other boys pouted. Hoya and Sunggyu chuckled.  After the money was given to them, they went out of the dorm and started heading towards nothing in particular.

“I didn’t know hyung trusts us this much.” Sunggyu said with his cheeky smile.

Hoya nodded, "That means he doesn’t know what we could do, right?”

Sunggyu wiggled his eyebrows, making his small eyes twitch in a funny way. Hoya chuckled while shaking his head. Who knows that the leader could be this playful?

“Which grocery should we go to?” “Anywhere near an amusement park.” Sunggyu’s voice vibrated in excitement. Hoya rolled his eyes. Then, his eyes landed on something unusual. A girl wearing a simple white shirt and dark blue jeans was walking along the sidewalk, and then turned on a corner. Her long, straight, black hair swayed and the side of her face was revealed to Hoya. His eyes widened. She’s that mysterious girl!

“Hyung, please don’t go to the amusement park. I have to go somewhere. Make sure you buy the food the members are asking for.” Hoya said all of it in just one breath and immediately ran after the girl. Sunggyu was left behind, slightly dumb-founded. Hoya ran to an intersection and the girl was nowhere in sight.

“Why the hell am I doing this again?” the question rang in his head. “Oh yeah, because I’m a curious creepy dude that wants to talk to a girl.” He rolled his eyes and just went to the direction his feet brought him to. Then he saw her. She was standing still just beside a colorful metal rail, looking over the children playing in the playground. The wind was making her hair sway softly. Hoya felt very nervous as he approached her from behind.

“Um, excuse me?” She didn’t move an inch. Hoya wasn’t sure if she even heard him. He was about to speak again when she suddenly spoke.

“I’m glad you came.” She said in her soft, velvety voice. Hoya was confused. She turned around and she had a smile on her lips. His heart almost stopped as he saw her almond-shaped eyes and flawless snow-white skin. She was beautiful.

“I… I’m confused. You look so familiar. Have we… Have we met somewhere?”

“So you don’t remember anymore…” she whispered sadly and bowed down. Something pinched on Hoya’s heart. Had the two of them became friends in their childhood? Was she someone that helped him in a math assignment back in high school? Hoya couldn’t remember anything.

“Do you remember the playground?” she glanced at the place behind her.

Hoya’s boys furrowed. “Well, it does look familiar…”

“I was that crying girl on the swing. You even lent me your scarf, remember?” Hoya’s brain started rewinding. Yes, the scenario sounded really familiar. Did that happen a week ago? No, Hoya’s memory is not that bad… How about a month? A year? Then, the rewinding stopped at a certain scene. His eyes widened as he finally remembered. It was exactly 2 months ago.
