Felix's pov
"Ok. Breath. Hold your arm steady and when you're ready, let go," A calm voice said as my arms were supported. I steadied myself and took in a steady breath, holding it before letting my fingers loosen. I watched as an arrow flew forward and peirced the target.
"Nice. One out from center. You're getting better," the calm voice said. I smiled slightly and picked up another arrow.
"Yeah but I still wouldn't hit anything useful. I doubt I'll be able to hit a moving target," I said with a sigh.
"We'll work on it. First you gotta work on your aim. Then we'll hit moving targets okay," the voice said, helping me aim once again. Their hand moved away from me and I was left to aim by myself this time.
"Shot by yourself this time," they said with a smile. I took a nervous breath before focusing on my task. I aimed and took in a long steady breath, holding it for a second before releasing the string.
"NICE! Right on target," the voice cheered. I smiled, feeling proud with my work.
"Yeah but I wouldn't have even know how to do it without you. Thanks Russ (who thought is was Cry ;P)," I said happily.
"Nah, don't sweat it man. It's the least I could do until we get you a new crossbow," Russ said nonchalantly.
"Yeah but, thanks still. It really helps take my mind off things," I said, a hint of sorrow managing to come into my voice.
"Hey dude. It will be okay. We're here for you," Russ said, pulling me into his arms. I hesitated for a moment before hugging back, glad for the contact.
"Thanks Russ. I mean it," I said, pulling away.
"So do I. Now come on. Try a few more shots," Russ said with a smile. I nodded and nocked another arrow, we continued our routine a few more times until Russ thought I was good enough to try moving targets.
"Alright. I'll throw a target into the air and you try to hit it. Remember what I taught you," Russ said, picking up a target and walking a distance away from me. I held my bow low as he readied to throw.
"Ready?" Russ called. I nodded and he threw the target up. I tried to aim but couldn't hold it steady enough. I fired randomly, missing the target completely. I chuckled to myself as the arrow flew right over the wall and hit the side of a nearby house.
"Opps!" I called out. Russ laughed as well but shook it off.
"No biggie dude. I didn't expect you to hit it first go. There's only been one person who ever hit it on their first go that I've seen," Russ said as He picked the target back up.
"Who was that?" I asked. He froze for a second and I immediately knew who it was, a twinge in sadness tugged at my chest but I ignored it.
"Doesn't matter. Let's go again," Russ said, quickly returning to his position. We repeated the process several more times before I finally hit it. It was on the second to last ring hut I still hit it.
"Nice. I only nicked the edge when I first hit it. You're a quick learner," Russ commented. I smiled slightly, taking his complement.
"Thanks. Go again?" I responded. He nodded and grabbed a second target, too lazy to remove the arrow from the first. He walked a little further this time and readied to throw. The was just about to actually throw it when I saw movement off behind him a bit. Zombies.
"RUSS!" I called out, aiming for the closest one and firing. The arrow flew through the air, hitting the zombie straight through the eye. A second one lunged at Russ but by then Russ had pulled out his pocket knife and quickly dealt with the infected.
"Shit fuck," Russ uttered out loud. "Thanks for the warning there."
"No problem bro. Did it scratch you?" I asked, running up to him.
"Nah, didn't even touch me," Russ said smuggly. He turned to the zombie I had shot and gasped. "Nice dude. Straight through the eye. Exactly like Cr-."
My smile faultered slightly at the name he was about to say but returned as the full sentence pieced together. It felt nice knowing I had so many similarities with Cry. It felt... nice.
"Don't worry about Russ. I know you don't want to mention Cry around me incase I get upset but it's okay. I appreciate you trying though," I said, gently resting my hand on his shoulder. He nodded and turned his head back to the zombies.
"We should head back inside. Red is probably wondering where we are," Russ said with a chuckle. We picked everything up and headed back to the entrance.
"Hey, if a chicken says all chickens are liars, is the chicken telling the truth?" Russ asked as we neared the gate. I thought about it for a moment.
"No?" I said unsure. Russ smiled and touched his nose.
"Chickens don't speak so how did it say anything?" He sang. I let out a groan and mentally slapped myself for not thinking that.
"Ok ok, I got one. How many letters are in the alphabet?" I asked with a hum.
"Easy, 26," Russ said but stopped immediately after.
"No, there's 11. I was referring to the words 'the alphabet' not the actual alphabet," I said with a giggle. Russ shoved me and I nearly lost balance.
"Shut up man. Thats crap," He complained.
"Hey, not my fault you're stupid," I said with a snigger.
"Fine, what can you hold without ever touching it?" Russ asked.
"Oh, I know this one. It's your breath," I said with a smirk. Russ let out a groan in defeat. These riddle contests have become a common thing between us lately. It's a lot of fun.
"Felix!" Red called as we entered the front gate. I put everything down and hurried over to her.
"Yeah? What's up Red?" I asked, dusting myself off a little.
"It's Cry. He's awake."
Aaaand leavin it at that. Good day to you all.
