Prologue

Fifteen Years Ago...

"Hanī, daijōbudesuka? (Honey, are you okay?)", Matsumoto Atsushi, asked his wife, Fumika Hikari, who suddenly started to vomit while she was wiping the dusts of their television.

Matsumoto rushed to his wife's side and helped her to sit on their couch.

"Daijōbudesu. Watashi wa mada ie o sōji shinakereba narimasen. (I'm fine. I still have to clean our house.)" Fumika said and started to stand but Matsumoto was firm to her and she has no choice but to follow her husband's instructions.

"Meido-san ga imasu. Kawari ni itte, karera ni yatte moraimasen ka? (We have our maids. Why don't you go and ask them to do it for you instead?)" Matsumoto asked, his hands on his waist, as he stared at his wife's frail form.

"Koko ni i tenani mo shinai no wa totemo taikutsudesu. Soshite, soreha tada no kantan'na sōjidesu. Ie no naka de kagu o ugokashite iru wakede wa arimasen! (I'm so bored just staying here and doing nothing. And, it's just simple cleaning. It's not like I'm moving furnitures around the house!)" Fumika complained and rested her head on the back rest of the couch.

Matsumoto sighed and called on one of their house maids to clean the mess as he went to sit beside his wife.

"Just because you're taking a break from show business, doesn't mean you can go and move around the house just like that. It's called a break for a reason." Matsumoto scolded his wife and caressed her arm.

He thanked the maid who handed him a basin with water and a face towel.

He wiped his wife's face lovingly and he couldn't help smiling at her irritated look.

"Why are you laughing, hanī?" Fumika gave him a confused glance but he chuckled even more. Annoyed, she slapped his hand away and Matsumoto gave her a quick kiss on the lips and returned the face towel back on the basin.

Matsumoto called one of their maids again to get the basin and he adjusted his necktie as he stood up.

"In as much as I wanted to stay and take care of you, I have to make a living for us." He said when he felt his wife's arms around his waist.

"Watashi wa anata o aishiteimasu, Hani. (I love you, honey.)" Fumika said sincerely and sniffed the scent of her husband as she hugged him from behind.

Matsumoto bid his wife goodbye to start his day as a neurosurgeon in Nagoya University Hospital.

While he was doing his job as a neurosurgeon, her wife, Fumika, decided to pay a visit to her Obstetrician-Gynecologist friend, Mayumi Takahashi, which is only a couple of blocks away from their house.

Like the stubborn woman that she is, she told their maids and driver not to tell her husband that she went out.

As obedient as they are, they obliged and had their mouths zipped from any confession.

Fumika drove her car to Mayumi's house and was in pure bliss when she returned home.

Her guts were indeed true! She's about to be a mother soon!

She's excited to know about her husband's reaction and was torn between telling him right away and surprising him.

So, she thought of surprising him at around the first month of her pregnancy.

Some says that it's better to tell everyone about it after twelve weeks as the risk of miscarriage drops sharply.

So, in order not to jinx things, she remained calm and cautious with her movements as she discretely take care of the baby growing in her womb.

Days flew by fast and it's getting harder to hide her tummy from getting big.

Surprisingly, Fumika's husband never asked nor noticed anything new to her.

Her morning sickness became evident at around five to six weeks. Her senses were heightened on the seventh week that she couldn't stand her husband's smell.

Her food cravings showed from five to eight weeks and she tried her hardest to contain it with her husband sleeping beside him.

There were nights when she would wake up and look at the fridge for food to satisfy her cravings.

Come the ninth week and she was tempted to tell it to Matsumoto but at that moment, he was devastated because of a failed operation he administered.

His patient didn't make it. According to his records, he have prior complications before his operation but her husband still cannot accept losing the life of a patient.

Instead of blurting the good news, she consoled him instead and he rested for a while.

All Fumika could do was to caress and whisper her apologies to their child as she watched her husband sleep wearily beside her.

Finally, when she reached her deadline of twelfth week and her OB-Gyne friend gave her the confirmation and go-signal, she asked their maids to prepare the backyard for a romantic dinner setup.

Being a graduate of culinary arts, she cooked her husband's favorite food and baked a devil's cake as their dessert for that night.

Fortunately, Matsumoto has no operation scheduled that night. He was able to come home early and was ultimately surprised with the great news from Fumika.

On top of the cake was a picture of the ultrasound of their twelve-week child.

Matsumoto was in tears and all the people in their house rejoiced with them.

Everyone took extra care of Fumika all throughout her pregnancy. Their maids were attentive to her needs.

Matsumoto took few operations during night time as he vowed to be with her most of her pregnancy journey.

He even filed a three-month paternity leave as soon as their first-born was out.

Time came and Fumika gave birth to a healthy baby girl and named her Azami which means 'beautiful'.

With Fumika's parents excited to see their grandchild but unable to travel far, they requested to have them visit them in Nagoya.

Gleeful and ecstatic parents as they are, they scheduled a trip to Nagoya and brought all the baby's things with them for a week-long stay.

Their original plan was to take a long two-hour drive but Fumika was strongly against Matsumoto's driving as he will get tired easily.

They also do not want to bother their driver as he has a problem on their household too.

They decided to take a train and enjoy the two hour trip.

But, something untoward happened.

The train they were in, for some unknown reason, got derailed while on the move and they met an accident.

News has it that many are severely injured and some were dead.

The showbiz and medical industry were appalled with the news that Fumika and Matsumoto were sent to the ICU for a major operation.

The odd thing was the one-year old child went out of Fumika's grasp and was moved to safety even before she blacked out during the accident.

Nobody knew what happened to the child for they didn't tell anyone except their family members about it.

They kept their child away from the public's scrutiny and now, nobody knew about Azami's existence.

As rescuers and choppers aid the victims of the accident, an old lady heard and saw the baby crying just beside the stream.

Frantically, she hurried to her despite her old age.

Seeing the helpless girl, she decided to give it to the orphanage near her house to better aid the child.

Young Riva Solomon and her then- fiance, Henry Cojuangco, were taking a break from their mourning as she had a miscarriage when she found out that they will be having a baby soon.

It was Henry who encouraged her to visit Japan and pay a visit to her sister, Rie. There, they saw and fell in love with the young Azami.

They vowed to take care of the child as if their own as soon as they get married and adopt her.
