Chapter 13
"I might write another one tomorrow if you're lucky XD" I said 3 months ago
(Unedited)
|----September 1st, 1998----|
Hogwarts had been brilliantly rebuilt by the British wizarding community; its windows polished, the holes filled in and grounds cleaned up just in time for the new school year. The Weasleys plus Teddy, Harry, Hermione and her parents arrived at King's Cross Station at 9:45, giving the four ample time to find good seats.
First, however, they had to farewell their families as well as little baby Teddy whom Harry, Ginny, Ron and Hermione had cared for over the previous months. The moment was more tearful than most had expected, but seeing as it was their last year, everyone was quite emotional.
"Rightio!" said Arthur once the farewells were done. "On the train, you lot. We'll see you at Christmas time. Don't get into too much trouble."
They all shard a grin at that, seeing as how they'd got into trouble often in previous years. "We'll try, Arthur," said Harry, "I mean, Ron and Hermione are Head Boy and Girl after all."
"Yes," said Molly raising an eyebrow, "you need to set a good example for the younger ones you two."
Ginny stifled a laugh. "I'm certain Hermione will, Mum, but I'm not too sure about Ron."
"Oi!" said Ron, hitting her in the arm. "I'll have you know I am a great example for first years."
Hermione laughed. "Sure you are. Anyway, we best be off now - the train leaves in 5 minutes."
They waved goodbye to everyone and hopped on the train. Hermione and Ron headed towards the Prefects compartment while Harry and Ginny set off to find Neville and Luna. They found them in the compartment they'd sat in in 6th year and immediately struck up conversation. It was the same as it had always been – Trevor trying to jump out of Neville's arms, Luna making weird comments and Harry and Ginny talking about the latest Quidditch results – only this time, Ginny's head was on Harry's shoulder and his arm was wrapped around her.
(Harry preferred their new position.)
After an hour or so, Ron and Hermione entered the compartment after patrolling the train. Neville moved so that Ron and Hermione could sit together and as soon as they were seated, Hermione spoke.
"Did you know that Malfoy was coming back?"
Harry, Ginny and Neville jolted up in surprise. Luna looked up before returning to her magazine.
"He's back?" asked Harry.
"Yep." said Ron. He looked out the window of the compartment and said, "In fact, he's here right now."
The other five swivelled their heads around at a speed unknown to man just as Draco Malfoy came into view. He continued walking before doubling back to see six pairs of eyes staring at him.
He stepped into the compartment, saying, "Potter, Weasley, Granger, Weasley, Longbottom, Lovegood. Fancy seeing you here."
Harry raised an eyebrow. "I'm actually surprised you're here, Malfoy. What are you doing?"
"Finishing my education."
"So they forgave you and your family for being Death Eaters, then?" said Ron.
"Not my father. He has six months in Azkaban and 300 hours of community service – Mother and I got off with 50 hours of community service and trackers on our wands and ankles. And I have to apologise to all of you."
"The Ministry made you do that?" asked Neville.
He sighed. "No, Mother is making me. I gave you so much bullshit before and during the war that was uncalled for. I've learnt from my mistakes and I- I'm ready to make relative peace."
He stuck out his hand for Harry to shake.
Harry considered for a moment before shaking his hand and saying "Truce, but this doesn't mean we're friends. We're acquaintances."
Draco scoffed. "Good." He walked out of the carriage and shut the door. Harry laughed and said, "Still the same person." The others laughed, and they returned to their conversation.
|----Four hours later----|
The six of them got changed into their Hogwarts robes half an hour before the train was scheduled to arrive at Hogwarts. Ron and Hermione left the compartment for a final spot check on the rest of the train while the remaining four stocked up on Chocolate Frogs from the Trolley Witch.
Luna opened a frog and gasped. "Look, Harry, it's you!"
Harry jumped forward, waking a sleeping Ginny and startling Neville. "What?"
Luna smiled and gave Harry the card. "See, look! You're right there."
Harry took the card and read it. It was the same as all other Chocolate Frog cards but this time the picture staring back at him showed his own face.
"They never asked me about this!"
Ginny stifled a laugh before saying "It's an honour, babe. I'd kill to be on a Chocolate Frog card."
"I know, but they didn't tell me they were making this."
Neville shrugged. "It's not like your face is copyrighted or anything. They can do whatever they want, I guess."
Harry gave the card to Luna. "I'm making a mountain out of a molehill. I should be happy about this and I am, so I'll stop complaining."
"Good idea," said Ginny, "because you were beginning to sound like a bit of a knob."
The other three laughed and Harry wrapped his arm around Ginny. They continued to chat for a few minutes before the train started to slow down. They all got up to look out the window and sure enough, Hogsmede Station was just outside the window. It looked as beautiful as ever.
"It's such a wonderful place, isn't it?" said Harry.
Ginny smiled and put her hand in his. "It is." The four of them walk out of the compartment to find Ron and Hermione. They find them in the now-empty Prefects compartment in the middle of an intense snog session. Harry cleared his throat making them spin around so fast that he wouldn't be surprised if they got whiplash.
A flustered Hermione straightened out her robes and said "We were just coming out now!"
Ginny laughed. "Sure you were."
"C'mon guys, we're gonna be the last ones on here!" said Neville. Ron and Hermione walked out of the compartment holding hands and the six of them hopped off the train. The second they were off it they heard the familiar "Firs' years over here! Firs' years to me!" that gave them Hagrid's whereabouts. They all walked over to greet him.
As soon as Hagrid saw them, he walked over to greet the group. "'Ello you lo'. How've you been?"
Harry spoke. "Good thanks, Hagrid, how have you been?"
"Not to bad meself. I've been talkin' with the Centaurs in the fores' quite a bit. There's been quite a bit of Centaur drama these pas' few weeks."
Harry laughed. "I wouldn't expect anything else. Well, we best be off now Hagrid. See you up there!"
They waved goodbye to Hagrid and walked towards a carriage. They'd got off the train so late that there was only one carriage left – and it wasn't empty.
None of them could make out who the lone person was, but they were definitely female. As they got closer, Harry noticed more features – long black hair, Ravenclaw robes and a light skin tone.
The only carriage left was occupied by none other than Cho Chang.
