Chapter 10
(sorry this is quite a short chapter)
Harry looked up.
A beautiful sky full of stars greeted him. Australia was different. Good different. England was beautiful, but very, very cold. The heat was a welcome change.
Australia was beautiful as well, of course.
Harry had discovered early on that the sweaters he'd packed would not be needed this trip. He barely needed the jeans and the shoes. They'd had to go shopping for t-shirts and shorts the day they arrived and now were loaded up with various shirts from the tourist shop down the road. Speaking of the tourist shop, they'd already tried Vegemite and Tim Tams and were loaded up with cork hats and Aussie flag temporary tattoos. They'd tried their luck with surfing (the less said about Hermione's attempt the better) and knew their way around the local pubs. They'd met with some of the local wizarding community who had heard of him and congratulated him.
They were having the best of times and decided to stay for even longer. They sent an owl to Mrs Weasley saying that they'd be in Australia for a couple more weeks. McGonagall pushed the funerals and rebuilding back so that they could be there. Hermione and Ginny planned out the four friends' (and Hermione's parents') trip around Australia.
"First we'll go to a Test Match at the SCG." Hermione had said. "It says on this site that a cricket match is a staple in any tourist's itinerary." The other three nodded in agreement and Hermione continued. "Then we'll fly up to Brisbane, and spend 4 days there, fly back to Melbourne, four days there, and four again in Perth and Adelaide for 2 days at each." The other three decided it would be best just to nod along with her.
Harry was jolted out of his thoughts when Ginny lay down beside him. "Hey." she said.
"Hey. Ron and Hermione inside?"
"If by inside you mean in their room snogging then yes, they are inside."
Harry laughed and took her hand. She moved closer so that their shoulders were touching, and she turned to face him.
"I love you Harry." she said.
Harry smiled and looked her in the eyes. "I love you too Ginny." He brought his mouth to hers and kissed her. Ginny kissed him back and they were in their own world until Ron called out to them.
"Oi you two, time for dinner!"
They broke the kiss and smiled at each other, before standing up and heading inside. Ron and Hermione sat at the table, holding hands and talking. Harry and Ginny joined them, as well as Hermione's parents soon after, and they ate their meal. Afterwards, the four friends headed up to Ron and Hermione's room.
"We need to talk about something. All of us." said Hermione when they were all in the room.
"What about?" said Harry, and the Weasleys nodded in agreement.
"Rebuilding Hogwarts." she said. "Professor McGonagall contacted me and asked if we could design a hallway with portraits of the dead in it."
"That's a brilliant idea!" exclaimed Ginny and Ron simultaneously.
"I thought so too. Would you like to do it?" The last statement was more directed to Harry.
"I'd love to. Would it be everyone who died because of Voldemort or just the Fallen Fifty?"
"Everyone, obviously. Sirius, your parents, Dumbledore, they were all essential in bringing down Voldemort. It's the least we can do to honour them."
"Are the portraits already made?" asked Ron.
"Some of them. Your parents have had one for years Harry, and there's one of Neville's parents somewhere."
"So they'll be honoured too?" asked Ginny. "But they're not technically dead."
"I know, and McGonagall said that as well. They deserve a place."
The other three nodded their heads in agreement. "I love it." said Harry. "Could we have a portrait for Pettigrew? In the end he saved our lived in Malfoy Manor."
Hermione nodded. "I'll talk to McGonagall."
Harry and Ginny walked back to their room. They both got changed and got into bed.
"Do you like that idea Harry?" asked Ginny. "I think it's wonderful."
"So do I. It's another chance to see my parents, and for you to see Fred, even when we're back at Hogwarts."
Ginny nodded. "That's what I thought. It'll be good for the newbies to see all those that died for a better world."
Harry laughed. "Hopefully Dad, Sirius, Remus and Fred don't teach them anything."
Ginny grinned at him. "That'd be bad." She kissed him and said "Goodnight."
"Night Ginny. Love you."
"Love you too." she mumbled. Harry chuckled and wrapped his arm around his girlfriend and kissed her head, excited of what was to come.
Far out I feel so bad.
Anyway, hoped you like that chapter. It's been exactly a month since I last uploaded damnit. I'll try to have a longer chapter this time, and I hope it'll be up in a few weeks. Sorry about not posting on the hols. I had a tooth pulled out and decided a Doctor Who marathon was a better recovery than writing was.
Anyway, thanks for reading.
